Drinks and Thunder and Youth, oh my!
30th of Spring, 514 AV.
Evening with a moderate Thunderstorm.
Rain and thunder. Aurora had never liked thunder, though rain could be interesting enough. However, walking through the rain was awful, and the roaring skies did not help her nerves. Why were so many doors closed? The day had been a grey, gloomy day filled with on and off drizzling, but by the evening, it was pouring and chilly. The Kelvic’s cloak had grown heavy with the water and it was beginning to soak through as she ran up the street, flinching as lightning flashed and thunder rumbled.
She had never entered The Spot before, and it was certainly a loud experience. The room she entered was full of people escaping the rain and getting drinks. She could smell the pungent aroma of alcohol, though she only knew the stuff as the wine her Master and Mistress used to drink every now and again. This was a far stronger scent, though, like that on a couple of her strangest tutors. The smell alone almost made her dizzy, unaccustomed to it as she was. Her head was already swimming as she found an empty table and sat down.
Aurora’s eyes wandered the room, having never entered such a place before. There were two women wandering the tables, carrying drinks around to the many customers they had. People sat at tables, the bar, or stood playing darts on one side of the room. She watched the game with avid interest, sometimes astonished by their accuracy, other times disbelieving that they missed. Sometimes, they were hit it right in the center and actually seem unhappy with their shots! How ridiculous. She wondered how hard it would be to hit the board, let alone hit the center of it. How strange these people were.
“Good evening, can I get you anything?” Aurora looked up in surprise as one of the women approached her. Someone asking her if she wanted anything? That kind of shocked look took a moment to recede. She bit back her irritation at her wet cloak and hair, though her answer was curt enough.
“A drink would be fine.” Aurora replied, not quite realizing that she had just asked for more than water.
The wench just nodded and seemed to wander off, causing the Kelvic girl to lose sight of her for a moment. A chime that she chose to spend watching another game of darts commence, with only one crack of thunder to make her jump. ”Four copper Mizas.” Aurora smelled the drink as the woman placed it in front of her. She slipped her hand into her purse and pulled out the money, handing them to the wench. Though she couldn’t remember the differences between the types of mizas, she could at least see the color of them.
Aurora gave the drink a cautious sniff. The odor alone made her nose wrinkle a bit, but why would all these people be drinking it if it wasn’t good for something? Cautiously, she took a sip. Somehow, she didn’t spit it out, but she did place the mug down as she tried not to gag upon swallowing. Why in the name of Rhysol would anyone drink this stuff?
