Character Concept
Turais is a quiet sort of man. While he enjoys the company of others, he often is more likely to listen than to speak. Often the only times he is likel to open up and be boisterous is when he is debating or talking magic. He seems quite passionate of this pursuit of knowledge surrounding Djed, especially Auristics and Shielding, though he does seem interested in Reimancy. Sometimes he can be very boring to be around, especially if you do not know him very well and do not know what he enjoys discussing, but he often proves to be quiet contemplative and understanding and is a great shoulder for any who need one. Once you do get to know him he proves to be a secret extrovert and in the company of familiar faces he is very warm and affectionate, sometimes to the point of making people uncomfortable. Other times he will make himself uncomfortable when someone takes his friendliness in the wrong way and assumes he is flirting.
History
Turais was a simple mix blooded human before he was an Ethaefal. Born to a human mother and a charismatic Benshira father had had an interesting childhood. He was born with the name Saiph and because of his fathers disconnect with the Benshira they had no surname. Saiph's father, Jayebah had left his family relatively early to pursue an interest in Djed and magic and migrated to Zeltiva, where he met Saiph's mother, Sari. She was the daughter of a Professor at the University who taught medicine but understood the basics of magic, though no practical application.
Not to say that Jayebah did not love Sari, but it was not a marriage that did not come without benefit for him. Sari always joked around that her fathers lessons were her dowry to Jayebah. Saiph was born within the first year of their marriage and was beloved by both, though Sari seemed to dote on him more, coddling him as it seemed many new mothers would to their firstborns. Jayebah was kind to his son, but quite stern, trying to impart on him the lessons of the Benshira and spent much time trying to teach the boy Shiber. Needless to say Saiph was a willful child and slightly spoiled by his mother. He did what he wanted and when the consequences were bad he would run to his mother for protection and comfort, which she always gave him.
When he turned 16 his maternal grandfather had passed away and his mother came down with an illness. Jayebah did everything he could to try to help her, but his medical knowledge was barely competent compared to Sari's father and they knew of no other healers. Jayebah ended up coming into contact with a traveling doctor who claimed they could cure Sari for a hefty price tag. Despite the treatment working for a short time, the doctor left once it seemed Sari was fine and she ended up dying a few days later.
Saiph was heartbroken. His mother had been everything to him and had been the parent he most trusted and looked to for help. He ended up enrolling in the University and taking general classes about wilderness survival, basic weapon skills with swords and the like. He left once his courses were finished, but he did not make it very far. He ended up dying just a few days outside of Mirahil Pass after leaving Zeltiva, having been mugged and stabbed. The wound would have healed if not for the infection that followed.
After he died he ended up being taken in by Syna and Leth, having been a devout follower of both in the life before this last one. For a time it seemed as if things would be perfect for eternity. But one day, he leaked out of their domain and fell to Mizahar, back to Zeltiva, right into the cold water of Mathew's Bay.
The feeling of actually feeling was shocking. It felt like he had been set on fire when the water engulfed his form. A burning came from his chest as he remembered he required breath and frantically tried to reach the surface. After floundering he managed to reach the surface and took a deep breath of air, the action, while satisfying of that need, was awkward and unusual. He had spent what felt like an eternity as an ethereal being basking in the eternal presence of Syna and Leth.
The realization of what had happened begun to set in as he floated along the surface of the water on his back, staring up at Syna as she shone brightly in the sky. As he watched her above him so far out of reach, he began to cry, a silent, mournful cry. He tried to speak, but the words came out so odd, the language he had grown accustomed to before was impossible to replicate with sounds no matter how hard he tried and then he realized his name was nothing but a feeling to him now.
After nearly a few bells he was found by some merchants in a boat and thinking they'd hit him, they pulled him up into their boat only to realize what he was, an Ethaefal. They offered him some clothing that was a bit small and shuttled him into Zeltiva.
After a decade of moping around the city and doing odd jobs here and there, Turais, as he called himself now, decided to explore and managed to aquire passage via boat to Sunberth, then eventually visited Mura and even Nyka. While he did not stay anywhere very long he did stay long enough to learn a little bit about everything and recover a few memories of the life he lived when he was Saiph. Eventually he returned to Zeltiva, around 500 AV and has been trying to trace Jayebah's history after he, Saiph that is, left Zeltiva and died. Secretly he hopes he has some relatives around somewhere, or at the very least that his father did not meet the same kind of fate he and his mother did.
