Appearance

ImageJed is a tall man, thanks to his prosperous upbringing, he stands at six-three. Tattoos and scars cover his body. The tattoos are from family tradition, and the scars are from family pressure. As the Radacke's like to tell their story through the marks on their bodies, Jed shows both his accomplishments and defeats proudly. When someone looks at Jed, it is easy to feel intimidated. Aside from the muscles that form to his shirts, if he is wearing one, his icy blue stare will surely do it. Jed tends to keep his brown hair short, but he doesn't have a particular preference for his beard One season he will be sporting a full on, albeit well groomed, beard and the next he will stay clean shaven. Jed where's clothes as he sees fit. When his shop is open, he wears finer clothes to show off his nobility. When he is simply working he will wear simple but sturdy clothes, his shirt is optional depending on the heat or his mood. Its not uncommon to find a strange bruise or a bloody nose, like the rest of his family, he enjoys the more-than-occasional tumble in the mud. Tattoos cover his torso and into his arms. Most represent something close to him, others are just there for show. His family symbol rests alone above his heart. The rest of his tattoos are brutish or represent trophies, but one. A pelican is drawn across his ribs just under his heart, a special place set aside for his favorite slave, Matilla.

History

Jed had a very comfortable life. All aspects of his childhood were taken care of, from education to money to love. Unlike some of the other Dynasties, the Radacke family tends to be very close. One of the closest people Jed had been with his entire life, was his cousin Waite. Waite is only a year older than Jed, and since Waite has no siblings, and Jed has two sisters, their friendship formed pretty easily and quickly. It was often hard to find the two separate unless they were at lessons for forced apart. As the two grew older, differing opinions and interests pulled the two apart, leaving a polite gap in their relationship. The two Radacke kids that Jed never fell apart from were his sisters. The quieter Risa and loud Ismerilda hold a place in his guarded heart, one that they will never out grow no matter how annoying he thinks they are. As for Jed's mother, he never really liked the woman, but always sought for her attention. She doted more on his sisters than she did on him, simply because they were girls. This imbalance drew in Jed's father, but Jed decided he didn't like his father. The Ionu worshipper had fallen in love with the beautiful Radacke woman, but still held on to his own Alvadas roots. Jed didn't understand why his father couldn't be 'normal' and resented him for it. Despite the obvious hate form his son, his father took his time getting close to Jed, but passed before he could develop a functional relationship with his son. Mica, Morai and Bice took the rolls of Jed's mentors as he grew up.

Rounded in with Waite, the two boys were taught their place in Kenash, as Dynasty members and as craftsmen. As a child, Jed, his siblings and his cousin had little responsibilities. They could run through the indigo fields playing chase or wander Kenash as they pleased, supervised of course. It wasn't until his early teens that Jed was finally taught discipline. It had already been worked into him to be the vicious cold man he grew up to be, all the Radacke's were. But in his early teens he was taught the importance of work. Working with wood became a common hobby and a skill he progressed with quickly. Where Waite branched off into the more aesthetic crafting, Jed wanted to make something worth people's time ... and money. Thus he pursued the furniture business. When he was twenty four, he took over a small, old Radacke warehouse, using it for his business. His skills continued to progress and as his business began to fill out the warehouse, and he learned to make his own living, waning off of his mother's money. Now, most of his life is focused on wood and what he does with it, his solitary nature made this obsession easier for him to pursue.

Jed had always known the roles of slaves. He never glanced at them twice, they knew their place, and so did he. His companion slave, Matilla, was one of his few exceptions. The two developed a platonic relationship that has roots as deep as those with his sisters. As a child, Jed had never been particularly cruel to Matilla or other slaves. They did as he wished and he had no complaints. It wasn't until he grew into his teenage years that he was taught how to deal with the slaves. Brought to the slave house and shown how to break another person into submission, Jed developed a sick obsession with the work. Although it was not one he loved nearly as much as wood, Jed thoroughly enjoyed a good fight with an unbroken slave, whether he is beat or not. During these first few years of being introduced to the barbaric nature of his family, adopting the habits with open arms, he grew colder. The quiet and vicious creature he is today is a direct result of his late teenage years.

Heirloom

A decorative brass water-pipe. His father's father, who was a weapon smith in Alvadas and not of Kenash decent made it himself. Jed isn't very fond of the taste of tobacco, but his father gave it to him before he passed. Even though Jed upholds the act that he wasn't close with his father, he refuses to let go of his last connection to the man, and keeps the heirloom shiny and taken care of. Its not uncommon to find Jed with the unlit pipe when he is in a bad mood or simply stressed out.

Jed Radacke

Postby Jed Radacke on April 18th, 2014, 4:04 am

NPCs

ImageImageName: Matilla
Race: Kelvic, White Pelican
DoB: 14th of Spring 488AV (26)
Title/Relationship: Housekeeper/Confidant
Status: Companion, Personal Slave
Skills: Cleaning 10, Cooking 10, Medicine 10
Price: 0.5 gm/day (Seasonal Expense -- from personal ledger)

Brief Bio & History: Matilla had always been a cheery soul. She assumed responsibility over Jed, even when she was younger than him. Matilla lived a relatively quiet life, a delicacy among Radacke slaves. Her easy life was part due to her submissive and willing nature. Not forced to work on the plantations or be used for other purposes, she never really developed a fight in her or much muscle to do so. She is still very close to Jed, their friendship seems to be even stronger because she is a bit older than she is supposed to be. Matilla was born into slavery. Just as all other Radacke slaves, she has had the fight beat out of her, but not much was needed, as she was comfortable with her life style. Thus, she was trained to be a housekeeper. Gifted to Jed by his parents when he was nine and she was five, she's been a loyal companion to him since. During their teenage years, Jed was cold and cruel to her, but she never wavered in serving him faithfully. As they grew older Jed became kinder to her, and began relying on her in his life. When Jed moved into his own cottage on the Radacke property, he took Matilla with him. In her old age she stays home, cleaning and cooking for him. But she is always there for them when he needs her. (HD)

ImageName: Sander
Race: Human
DoB: 17 (78th of Spring 497AV)
Title/Relationship: Clerk & assistant at Beds & Boxes
Status: Stationary, Slave
Skills: Organization 15, Carving 15, Writing 10, Mathematics 10
Pay: 0.5 gm/day (from business ledger)
Brief Bio & History: Sander is a quiet boy, although quite mischievous. Despite this, he is responsible. For not being born a slave, he has little issue with his position. Sander invests most of his interest in Jed's profession, despite it not being his purpose, trying to help out with the actual making of the furniture when he is allowed. His main job is to attend the sales and organize the shop to be more aesthetically pleasing, as Jed can't seem to be bothered do it himself. He goes through and cleans up after Jed, and is there to address any questions or requests of the customers. Most of the customers concerns will simply be directed to Jed, but he will try to answer nonetheless. Since Sander was born free, he doesn't possess the submissive nature of slaves, which can come as a shock to Dynasty members when he talks back or voices his opinions. But Sander doesn't speak up without a solid reason to do so, he may not be submissive, but he is respectful, which is the only thing that keeps him from getting into trouble. When he does his words are swift and witty, though not always knowledgeable. Its easy to say his tongue has surpassed his age, and Jed always reminds him of it with a quick hit or shove. If you ever witness and argument between the two, it would be quite comical. Considering Jed will just deliver a blunt smack if he finds Sander annoying, it is rare. Jed had gotten Sander when his business started, a few years ago. Though their history together isn't long, Sander was quick to learn the ins and outs of working for Jed and managing the parts of the shop that Jed neglects. (HD)

Family

Image
Name: Loranna Radacke
Race: Human
DoB: 83th of Spring 463 AV
Title: Member of the Radacke Dynasty
Relationship: Mother
Skills: Observation 50, Persuasion 40, Negotiation 35, Archeology 30, Intelligence 15
Gnosis: Cheva's mark of Connections -- Married to Menagor Radacke
Brief Bio & History: Loranna was born into the more political side of the family. Ivan Radacke had opted to marry Cenil Lynint for alliance purposes and had climbed his way up the politics in the family. Taking after her father, Loranna Jumped into the politics. Although she didn't have her fathers clever tongue, she focused more on bending from the sidelines. She would watch the other dynasty members and bend their words to agree with her own. During her early twenties, Loranna decided to break away from the politics of her family, finding the occupation tiring and stressful. She wanted to travel Mizahar and pick up find trinkets and slaves to add to her families collections. On her first trip, to Alvadas, she met a blacksmith , name Menagor, who specialized in Decorative weapons. Before either of them knew it they had fallen in love. Loranna brought Menagor back to her family, who disapproved of their relationship. There was no political gain and therefore her father did not agree. After many arguements and a thread to leave Kenash forever, the two lovers were married. Cheva made an appearance at their wedding to bind them together with her gnosis. After having all three of her children with him, Menagor died. Stricken with greif, Loranna had slaves take care of her children and set out to pursue her life-dream of traveling Mizahar. Again, Loranna used her wits to get valuable artifacts and objects from all around Mizahar, rarely coming home to Kenash. Although her loyalties still lie with her family, she could no longer stand to stay where her lover had died. Now Loranna stays at the plantation, growing her families library and avoiding most everyone except her daughters. She is a kind woman, but one with little patience. She had never gotten over Menagor's death and it is obvious upon seeing her sad expressions and hearing her sorrowful voice

Image
Name: Menagor Radacke
Race: Human
DoB: 1st of Fall 461 AV (Deceased: 3rd of Spring 502AV)
Title: Married into the Radacke Dynasty
Relationship: Father
Skills: Metalsmithing 50, Weaponsmithing 45, Storytelling 30, Business 20
Gnosis: Cheva's mark of Connections -- Married to Loranna Radacke
Brief Bio & History: Menagor grew up with a relatively normal life, as normal as normal can get in the city of illusions. Following his fathers footsteps, he became a blacksmith, but strived for the more artistic side of his work. Rarely making functional weapons, Menagor made decorative wepons and sculptures. However, by changing his father's business to his impractical one, he lost a lot of money and drove himself into the ground. In his mid-twenties, Menagor was just scraping by when a remarkable woman sauntered into town. She wanted unique objects and Menagor was quick to offer his service. After briefly working Loranna, the Dynasty woman from Kenash, the two fell in love. She took him to Kenash to meet her family and give him a chance another chance at making the business of his dreams. But her family did not accept him. The soft-spoken Ionu worshiper did not speak up as his lover fought for their right to be together, but when they got married, he received the mark of Cheva as well. Menagor was happy to take the Radacke name instead of the other way around, he wanted his children to have good lives. After his first child, the new Jed Radacke, was born, Loranna's father helped him start his business back up. The two developed a good father-son relationship beside the fact that Ivan had protested Meangor's marriage to his daughter. However, after the birth of his last daughter, Menagor found himself to have an advanced form of skin cancer. No one knew what it was from, but it only gave him a few short years to live. He closed his business down and tried to spend the rest of his life with his wife and kids. However much his wife loved him, his children seemed to resent him for not being a Dynasty member and he never got as close to them as he would have liked before his death.

Image
Name: Ismerilda Radacke
Race: Human
DoB: 6th of Fall 492AV
Title: Proprietor of Tressed to Impress
Relationship: Youngest Sister
Skills: Sewing 30, Acting 10, Disguise 10, Construction 10, Impersonation 5
Gnosis: N/A
Brief Bio & History: Ismerilda Radacke would have the world believe that she is a dramatic prodigy. The truth, however, is that she has a modicum of talent and a highly inflated sense of her own ability. The young Radacke is unconcerned with rumors that she is decidedly lacking in talent, preferring instead to surround herself with people of slightly lower stature than herself - people who will be more likely to inflate her already healthy ego with false praise. It is said that such words will net you a modest discount on her pricey wares.

When not monitoring her shop, she can often be found in the company of hordes of contemporaries, regaling them with tales of derring-do and mischief. Generally seen sporting one of her own colorfully-hued creations, she stands out in a crowd even without the aid of the dramatic flair that she employs. If you can convince her to literally drop the act, she can become quite down-to-earth and pleasant. But enjoy it while it lasts, her personality shifts with the wind and soon enough she will be inflicting bad art on the city once more.

Image
Name: Risa Radacke
Race: Human
DoB: Winter 490AV
Title: Member of the Radacke Dynasty
Relationship: Younger Sister
Skills: Architecture 87, Drawing 65, Riding 52, Carving 47, Brawling 18
Gnosis: N/A
Brief Bio & History: When Risa Radacke was born, she did not cry. At first, the midwife thought she had perished, but instead Risa opened her eyes and just peered at the world, curious, not frightened. A beautiful child, especially by Radacke standards, Risa was deemed to be capable of speech but had difficulty fully understanding the world around her. She struggled socially, but excelled academically. By the age of 15 she had designed her first architectural wonder and since then, has been one of the best architects in Radacke memory. Now 23, Risa shrinks from any kind of social confrontation and most social activity. She has rarely left the Radacke plantation and is terrified of greater Kenash as a whole. Strangers perplex her and etiquette is a mystery she can’t seem to fully grasp. Instead her focus is rooted entirely in her feverish designing. Sometimes she says they come to her in dreams, speaking to her of old stone and wood that dream of becoming something more. Sometimes she finds inspiration in commonplace objects or her family.

Risa is always well guarded and considered a precious family treasure. No healer thus far can determine why she find such difficulty adapting to any environment but the one she is most familiar in, but the Radacke have long since been at peace with her behavior. Risa is a gentle and shy girl, but when her work is questioned she throws violent tantrums that only end with her in exhaustion. For obvious reasons, the Radacke do not ordinarily permit her at social gatherings.

Beds and Boxes

Beds and Boxes is no quaint building but the business is still small. It's Jed's most prized possession and while it is still young, he has plans for the little business, ones that will bring him down not only in Radacke history but also Kenash history. For now the business is mostly mediocre and very cluttered. It is where he spends nearly all of his time and sleeps in less than perfect Dynasty conditions but still maintains good appearances.
