The Void, a destructive force seemingly without equal even when compared to Reimancy and one that Annalisa Marin spent painstaking effort attempting to master. The tall dark haired woman was dressed in her ragged clothing today, almost looking rather like how a slave might with her tattered shirt, pants and feet bare. Her long dark hair was pulled into a high ponytail, bangs framing her rather plain face nicely. All in all she was the person most in Sahova might not spare a second glance as they passed them in the corridors. The glinting silver ring wrapped around her right ring finger told a different story, its sigil that of a burning scroll with rubies glinting along the edges. As poor as she appeared to be, Wizard Annalisa Marin was more powerful than a number of Sahovan Masters and likely a few realized this.
Currently the sorceress stood in the middle of a nice open space in the Common Labs, a few chairs arrayed here and there and several work stations pushed off to the side. The four chairs before her each possessed a different item upon them, the left most one possessed a few ruined documents, the center left one possessed a quill, the center right possessed a gear, and the right most one possessed a knife planted in the wood of the seat. The tall woman had set it all up in this way in order to attempt to further test the capabilities of stronger attractive and repulsive forces when using smaller portals.
Anna paced around the chairs, her eyes taking in as many details as possible regarding the items and how difficult they could very well be for. Her steps were slow, ponderous in their motions as she walked in a heel to toe fashion so common among her kind. The fingers of her left hand drummed at her chin as her grey eyes flicked over each item in their turn, gauging the difficulties she might face with each one in attempting to use Voiding to Pull them into the Void. There was a reason she had selected each item after all.
The parchments were simple things, her eyes noting ink splotches that stained them from some clumsy hand spilling ink upon them. It had long since dried but the stains remained and rendered it useless for actual writing, but useful for her purposes. The quill was a simple black feathered thing, slightly bent and the nib worn and ill kept up. The gear she had taken from the workshops, a heavier piece of metal that would not exactly be easy to lift using pull. Finally there was the knife, dulled and slightly rusted that had been lying on a workstation as perhaps a tool in Summoning or carving.
All four were set upon the chairs, each relatively neat in placement or as neat as the sorceress could place them at the very least. The chairs themselves she had placed to grant the items platforms, so she would not need to aim at the floor with her Pull and there would be less chance of it affecting her. Voiding was as dangerous to the caster as the target if used incorrectly, self-Voiding was a rather humiliating demise for any wizard.
The tall dark haired woman held out her right hand finally as she came to a halt in front of the chair that held the parchment, eyes focusing upon a singular point in the air before her. She focused upon the wellspring of her Djed, that tapestry of her being that defined who she was and gathered it up. As she did the tall woman began speaking in the Ancient Tongue, incantations dripping from her lips. Some wizards might have scoffed at them but they were useful for channeling focus upon one’s magic, personal magic in any event.
“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”
“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”
“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”
The young sorceress willed the energy to gather outwards in the spot she was focusing upon, willing the Djed to empty out all matter within the space. At first nothing happened, but that was expected as Voiding took much time and concentration to get results. Within ten ticks however a rush of energy flow from her and an ink black pin prick of darkness formed in the spot, a bridge between This Side and The Other Side. This initial spark brought a slight grin to Anna’s lips, which vanished as her face became a mask of purest concentration.
Now that she had sparked it into existence the sorceress stabilized the Portal by feeding it a steady stream of her Djed, establishing a connection to it. From here she slowly would increase the influx of her Djed going into the Portal itself, willing it to increase in size. Slowly the inky black vortex expanded, growing and growing to the direction of her will and through the strength of her connection. The borders of the Portal were purple, the light seeming to shift and bend around it as the bridge to The Other Side swallowed it up.
It felt glorious to control, a thrill shooting through her entire body as the Portal expanded to the size of a fist and then to the size of her open hand. The larger it grew, the more Djed was needed to maintain it at a stable amount however it was still very much manageable even as it reached the size of her head. Once it reached this size Anna stopped increasing the influx, focusing instead upon just keeping it stable and steady.
Portals to the Void were possessed of a couple of key factors in deciding how much Djed they would take to keep open, the size of the Portal and whether it possessed Push or Pull. Anna intended to keep the Portal smaller to maximize the effectiveness of her Pull upon the Portal; it would hopefully translate into taking less Djed to maintain. The sorceress wanted to keep her control as high as possible over attractive and repulsive forces, that was the point of this experiment after all.
As she stabilized the Portal Anna opted to add an experimental Pull to the Portal, a slight omni directional thing. The influx of Djed increased upon the Portal itself, increasing the strain upon Anna herself and enforcing a change upon the shifting black Vortex. The Pull tugged at her hand and her sleeves, her hair even moving towards the Portal ever so. It was relatively weak, but the sorceress was just looking to warm up at this point. Likely Omni directional Pull in most situations would result in Self Voiding, not a good thing to invite. After a few more ticks of this Anna cut off the Pull, now ready to focus her full attention upon the experiment.
