The 65th of Spring 514AV
The day had become night many times since he had located the residence of Dimitri, days that had mostly been put to good use, though some had been wasted on petty things. Bathing and all the shyke that had come with it, though it had been necessary and a welcome distraction, the bat felt now that he had been wasting time. Not that he would have done anything differently if he hadn’t gone out to bathe, even though he had to gather as much intel on the house as possible, one in the mental state of paranoia would not think seeing the same figure sneaking through the alley days on end is a coincidence.
That had been a drag, waiting around the swindler’s house, killing time until he left the place and headed for the Shooting Star Inn, to order lunch no doubt. It was quite strange that the man still frequented the Inn even in his delusional state… but it was very convenient for the bat, then being able to investigate all he liked, from checking the escape routes to determining what kind of lock secured the door, all kinds of useful information. To gather all of it, he’d had to go multiple times, Dimitri returned fast, and looked over his shoulder every so often until he exited the alley, which stretched out far, the swindler following it all the way. That also made the bat’s timeframe too small to absorb plenty of info at a time, having to return over and over again.
Brandon had eventually gathered enough though and the time to use it was upon him, the day had come to formulate a plan of action, and prepare for all kinds of situations, this was not something he would allow to result in failure. What kind of pathetic vengeance would it be if that were to be the outcome, what would that say about his determination, his resolve? No, failure was not an option, a word he banned from his mind, from his vocabulary for now. This was an operation that had to succeed, that was the only outcome he would accept.
First he needed a map to get full view of his information, to make sure he wouldn’t overlook anything, this was a crucial part, if he got this wrong, he might find himself in a mess when things went south…. Usually he didn’t make time to do things like this, breaking in without much of a plan, just a general idea of the ways out, and the location of the house. This case being a rarity, he had no choice but to do things differently, he couldn’t mention enough that failure was not acceptable. So, a map… but he didn’t have any paper, let alone a quill and ink. What he did have in his possession were charred pieces of wood from the hearth that were not yet cleaned up, that would do just fine too. One such piece was grabbed, and onyx orbs searched for a surface he could draw on.
A wall was elected to receive the honour, black lines marking the path of the charred stick, forming a square, the rough shape of the target’s house. Then came the position of the door and windows located on the first floor, marked by rectangles. During his investigation he had studied a part of the inside by glancing through the windows, so he knew more or less how the rooms were divided over the first floor, the rest was a mystery as of yet. The front door gave access to a small hallway, which the bat put on the map with a short horizontal line starting in the middle of the left side, and then a long one down, connecting the inside-wall with the façade. The room directly next to it was the living area, and what was left was a kitchen in back, with a backdoor and window. The stairs were in the hallway, drawn as a ladder. Next, the thief wrote the respective names of the rooms in the divided space and took a step back to admire his work.
From what he could see on the drawing, he had four ways of entering or exiting on the ground floor, two windows and two doors. Now, the question was how to enter, using his usual method or via another? Supposing that he could use the backdoor for once, Bran drew an arrow with a question mark pointing at it, but one near the front door as well. It wasn’t like he would stick to one scenario anyways, the best one would be chosen for the complementary situation, who knows, he might even use the window when necessary.
