13th of Bell, 12th of Spring 514 A.V, Anthonius Fighter's Pit

Another beautiful early Spring day in the open-air location known as the Anthonius Fighter's Pit, Syna was shining, the sky was clear, and the air, it smelled of... sweat, stinky sweat of humans and Akalak practicing in the Pit. Not that it mattered for Rachel for she was very used to it, she worked here after all as a Combat instructor, teaching the good citizen of Syliras how to defend themselves. For today however, she had one special training session with Jon Wakefield, her favorite student. So there she waited, standing beside her personal advanced training dummy and elaborate training post, two training equipments she bought for her teaching sessions as the dummies in the Pit were all too simple and worn out for her liking, they also 'marked' the particular spot as 'Miss Messer's training area', she wouldn't be using them today though.

Rachel was wearing her usual half-plate armor, a chin-guard helmet, a buckler tied on her left arm, and the blunted longsword held by both of her hands, she was doing warm-up exercises by practicing basic moves.

Jon, her student, had expressed interest to the instructor, saying that he knew about the art of Flux and asking if Rachel knew as well, this prompted an excited gasp from Rachel, her student knew about flux? How awesome was that, of course Rachel would be glad to teach him how to utilize it. Granted, she was also a beginner herself, but at least she knew her way around slightly enhancing her speed and strength to her shoulders and torso, she had not mastered the ability to do intricate muscle reinforcing... yet, she would learn though, together with her student. After about five chimes, the familiar confident stride of Jon could be heard as the student entered the scene, the brown-haired young man was wearing a chainmail set with a similar chin-guard helmet, both of them couldn't risk anything when playing with Flux.

"Greetings, Madame! Good to see you today," Jon greeted then he immediately cut to the chase, not out of impoliteness but he was very eager to begin, "So! Shall we get started?" Jon asked as he put down his pack near Rachel's then unsheathed his longsword, giving it a few practice swings.

"Ahaha, as eager as ever I see, Jon, well then! As you said, let us begin..." Rachel tried to keep her voice calm and neutral, but a keen person could sense the spirit in her voice, she wanted to spar as well. With a flash of golden light from her right palm, feeding both of them courage, they were ready to begin. Without any unnecessary social exchanges, both combatants took a spot, separated by a few feet from one another, then both bowed slightly. The spar began, Jon took the offensive as the eager young man charged at his instructor, using his longsword to make a three-strike combo, two sideswipes and one overhead strike.

Rachel anticipated it as she took a hanging-right guard stance, holding the longsword diagonally with both of her hands then she parried each of Jon's strikes by moving her longsword in tandem with his, clashing the blunted steel together. If Jon took the first initiative, then Rachel would take the first flux, the instructor inhaled as she focused her djed, the flow of energy coursing through her upper torso, shoulders, and arm muscles, with the energy ready to be unleashed, Rachel took a step back, planted her right foot firmly on the ground, then charged forward in a powerful stabbing motion, her speed and strength enhanced by the flux.

Of course, Jon expected his teacher would use flux, but he didn't expect it to be so early, the young man was taken by surprise as his eyes widened, he mistimed Rachel's stab due to the enhanced speed, then he got hit square in his chest, but thankfully, his chainmail, padded shirt, and the longsword's blunt tip and edges kept him safe from lethal wound, but he would surely get a light bruise though, "Argh!" Jon groaned as he took a step back, then inhaled, "Not yet!" he wouldn't give up like a sissy just after being hit once, the young man charged again, but this time... he would have his vengeance! Jon focused as he inhaled, the flow of djed coursing through his thighs and legs, yes, he would surprise the blond instructor with an unexpected attack, the young man took a step back as he prepared himself...

Rachel had did it, she managed a clean hit against Jon, she felt rather proud, Jon was not a novice swordsman that much was sure, sure he could take on another hit, might be good to get him used to opponents who utilized flux. Rachel prepared her djed again, flowing a modest amount of energy to her arms then she made a powerful side-swing, the blade sang through the air, hitting... nothing, "Huh? Gah!" Rachel's answer was answered when Jon's suddenly ducked under her swing then swiftly charged at her, faster than how it should be done normally, he was using his flux to enhance his leg muscles, smart boy. "Tsk..." Rachel couldn't do anything as Jon closed the distance then put his blade on her neck, signaling his victory. "Looks like I win this round, Madame... ha..." He was panting, but the pride in his voice after beating his teacher was oozing.

Rachel simply chuckled then nodded, "Yes, you have defeated me fair and square, Jon. Now then, while the iron is hot, how about another round?" The instructor proposed, her gnosis flaring with soft comforting glow to fill them both with hope and courage, they were not done yet! They arranged for a great intense spar and that was exactly they would do.

Stepping back to their starting positions, Rachel went on the offensive this time, the blond-haired instructor concentrated as she muttered a prayer to Priskil, Jon was a smart nimble boy, she couldn't underestimate him, this time, Rachel opted for a slight variation in using her flux, she directed the energy to her legs as Jon did earlier, she would see if he expected her to copy his technique, Rachel didn't know exactly what he did, but from what could be deducted, he increased his legs' speed and reaction so... logically, the energy would be directed at his thighs, Rachel did so then saved the flow as she suddenly charged in, the longsword in an "inside-left" stance, preparing for a stab, but as Jon prepared to intercept her...

She used her flux to suddenly swivel to he left, using the charge as a feint, Jon didn't expect it, Rachel stabbed her before, he should have known, her teacher wouldn't use the same technique. The student gave his attention for a charge that wouldn't be there in the first place, he cursed his bad luck as Rachel passed on his left, her longsword 'slashing' on his shoulder, if it was live combat with real sharp weapons, Jon's right shoulder would be bleeding right now... along with his neck, but the chaimail and avantail helmt protected him from the blunted strike. Jon huffed, wanting to ask if they wanted to start over as Rachel basically 'won' the round, he should be dead after all, but the instructor seemed to read his mind as the blond woman shouted, "Not yet! Continue!" The student nodded, continue they shall. Jon quickly recovered as he turned around, pacling his longsword in a "close-right" stance, going on a defensive.

The instructor skidded to a stop as she planted her foot firmly to face the student, they faced off for about a tick before she charged again, using what remained of her flux energy for a straightforward charge this time, enhancing the speed of her steps, would Jon assume she would feint again? She would see. The instructor put her longsword in a "back-left" stance then raised it above her head then cleaved downward in a might strike, Jon wanted to dodge by stepping back, but he was too late as the longsword come crashing down his helmet... barely, Rachel managed to stop her strike just right before it hit him. Though blunted, the steel could still cause a concussion to Jon's helmet-ed head... and a concussion as no light matter, Rachel wouldn't risk it, "Ha... looks like I win this time, Jon." Rachel gave a light smile.

"Bollocks! You sure did, Madame! Hahaha!" The young man laughed heartily as he wiped his forehead, "Phew... I'm beat, how about uh... we call it a day for now?" He couldn't continue anymore, his muscles were filled with acid and it seemed like his instructor would agree, the blond woman was panting and heaving as well, the strain of flux and the spar taking its toll on her.

"Yeah, I agree... I'm tired... phew, hahaha... good spar, good spar..." Rachel took long breaths just to calm herself down, she wanted to just lie down right there, but of course, it would be unwise. The instructor then sheathed her longsword as they both walked back to their packs, took out their waterskin, then drank them.

"Alright, here is the pay for this session, Madame. Thank you for sparing with me." Jon said as he took out five gold mizas from his pouch then gave it to Rachel in which the instructor accepted with gratitude, before Rachel could reply, he interrupted with a sly grin, "How about we go take a bath in the Soothing Waters, eh? To loosen our muscles, haha!" Jon expected Rachel to be surprised at his audacity then scolded her, he would take it, but...

"Sure." The instructor answered simply with as sly smirk of her own. So he wanted to play this 'game' eh? He was far too young, he thought she was going to be all embarrassed. She was a Sunberthian, he should know that... apparently, he didn't. "Wuuuh?!" Jon literally spit-take his water, wiping his mouth as he stared unblinkingly at Rachel, "I... uh w-well, I didn't... uh..." His mental capacity regressed at the unexpected answer.

Rachel simply approached him then patted his shoulder, "What are we waiting for? Let's go~" She picked up her pack then made her way out of the Fighter's Pit, her half-plate armor clanking as she accentuated her steps, followed by the dumbfounded blushing young man, ah... Jon, her favorite student indeed.

Additional Comments:Good thread! Just keep an eye on your run on sentences. The usage of the flux seemed a bit… too easy for a novice of 10 points, same goes for Jon they should really be struggling at this point and the risks should be more pronounced. No penalty, but keep an eye on that! All together an interesting read.
