"Jon."

"Madame Rachel."

It was a beautiful spring morning in the Fortress City of Peace, Syna's light shining down upon the fortress and the wilderness surrounding it, specifically in the Bronze Woods, where a pair of female and male humans could be seen, a blond-haired woman in her early twenties and a brown-haired young man in his late teen. Rachel and Jon, mentor and student, had arranged for another round of intense spar using the art of Flux, but with a twist, they wouldn't do it in the Fighter's Pit, but in the Bronze Woods instead, amidst the canopy of trees. Now they were standing in the middle of a clearing, their packs tucked neatly underneath a nearby large tree trunk, standing a few feet away, both holding the famous longsword, though with blunted edges to avoid fatal accidents, at most, they would get bruises due to the armor protecting them from broken bones.

In addition, Rachel was wearing an added steel buckler on her left hand, the small portable shield allowing her to hold the longsword in both hands while still wearing it, she still had very little - bordering on null - skil in using the buckler effectively, sparring with a live opponent should give her a good jumpstart.

Rachel had opted to wear her full armored attire, a half-plate armor and a chin-guard helmet, adorned by blue engravings and blue clothing in the parts not covered by the armor, Jon was wearing his chainmail and a similar chin-guard helmet, both were gripping their longswords with gauntleted hands, though in a consented spar, practicing flux was still risky so they spared no reservations for safety. The sharp look on both of Rachel's green and Jon's brown eyes conveyed a message, they didn't need unnecessary pleasantries, it was the time to spar, with a flash of comforting yellow light from Rachel's right palm, filling both of them with courage and hope, they charged at each other. This time, both took the offensive at the same time.

As they charged, Rachel exhaled, flowing her djed stored in her body to her shoulder and arm muscles, twitching slightly at the potential energy being built, she knew Jon would do the same, with her flux prepped, Rachel shifted her stance into the back-left stance, preparing for a mighty side-swing. Jon opted to intercept with a high stance, then they closed the distance... Rachel swung her sword diagonally upwards, Jon swung it diagonally down...

"Ha!"

"Rah!"

*CLANG!*

A loud sound of steel clashing echoed in the clearing as their flux-enhanced strikes struck against each other, both of them went silent after a loud huff, their muscles shook under the feedback pressure of the clash, but they were not done yet, both instructor and student turned around, their feet shifting in the grassy spring forest floor, a determined smile on Jon's face showed he was very much enjoying this, the instructor gave him an assuring nod as if saying 'Do not be afraid! Come at me with all you've got!". The student was more than willing to oblige, patters of greaves rattled as they charged at each other, in for another bout.

Rachel opted for another tactic, aiming to disarray the student, see if Jon could see it coming, she flowed the flux in her body, this time directing it modestly at her right arm. They were within striking distance, Jon opted for a powerful overhead strike in which Rachel responded by facing her steel buckler to his, to test her ability, due to her ineptitude, she misplaced the buckler and it merely glanced his blow, the strike passing right through her defenses, destroying her plan of countering with a shield-bash, but... she had back-up, the stored flux energy on her right arm flared to life as she made a swing to his waist, taking his strike to her armored shoulder, both blunted longswords scraped against the armor, Rachel's shoulder and Jon's waist.

"Agh!"

"Gah!"

They groaned in pain at scoring - and be scored - a clean hit, the pain prompting them to step back, Jon then chuckled, "Having trouble with the buckle, Madame?" Oh great, now he was trying to force a rhyme, Rachel fought hard not to roll her eyes, she gave a panted chuckle in return, "Well, I won't lie, I'm still getting used to using a shield, will you honor me with my stumbles, dear student?" Rachel gave him a playful wink, quite rare for the normally serious woman, that meant she regarded Jon as more of a little brother than a student now, Jon simply guffawed as he readied his stance, "With pleasure, Madame! Here I go!" with an excited battle-cry they both began another bout.

This particular one involved in them exchanging blows, slashes, and feints in a close-quarter combat, clangs of metal, shifting of feet, and scraping of steel against armor made an orchestra of duel in the Bronze Woods, birds could be heard chirping, flying away from panic at these two humans' disturbance. Enduring the pain and increasing muscle acid, both student and mentor immersed themselves in the exciting art of combat, not to kill, not to purposely main or hurt, but as a sport and a way defend oneself against evil and criminals. The average bandit would be taken by surprise and defeated in one well-timed flux strike.

Rachel planted her right foot firmly on the ground as she hunched down, flowing her djed once more, she could begin to feel added exhaustion from using the magic, her mind starting to drown in the addicting nature of magic, however... Priskil would not let her devotee fall, a soft comforting golden glow from Rachel's palm emitted, chipping away their exhaustion and gradually filling them both with courage and hope, the courage to control oneself and focus, the hope to keep holding on to one's principle, with a yell, Rachel swiveled her body as she made a powerful roundhouse swing with her blunted sword, her strength and speed enhanced by the flux.

Jon reciprocated with a quick stab, aiming to disrupt the instructor's large swing and he partially succeeded as his blunted tip made contact with her exposed armpit joints, causing Rachel to slightly falter, but due to the flux, she still plowed on. The instructor groaned in pain but the satisfying sound of her blunted longsword hitting Jon's chain-mailed shoulder were enough. Truly, they needed to go to the Soothing Waters after this was done or else they would spend the night in painful agony of bruises.

After the hit, Rachel continued on with a quick counter-swing by going in the opposite direction, without the power of flux this time as she had no time to prepare, Jon however, had been saving his flux energy after the stab so he overpowered Rachel's swing with his own mighty parry, causing Rachel to almost drop her sword due to the pressure, in succeeded in stunning the blond woman for two ticks though and two ticks was all Jon needed to score the 'finishing' blow as he moved in to put his sword at Rachel's neck, signaling his victory, he would win this.

"Gah! His instructor would have no part of it though, not so easy, when Jon made his swing to her neck, the blond woman opted for an unorthodox approach as she simply hunched her body down, raising her left arm to try and deflect his strike with her buckler, she succeeded in barely dodging his strike, then charged it, sword in "inside-left" stance, moving for a stab at his chest, the sound of blunted tip meeting against metal echoed, score! Rachel managed a smirk as both combatants stepped back, breath heaving and panting.

"Ha... phew... t-that... was... woah..." Jon was at a loss for words due to excitement and exhaustion mixing in, his muscles felt like mush and his vision was tunneling due to adrenaline, he looked at Rachel, she was not much better, the instructor was panting and trying to catch her breath, using her sword like a cane to keep her upright. "Indeed, Jon... ahaha... truly, are you really my student?" Rachel jested, with his kind of skill, they couldn't really be called mentor-student, but well... perhaps Rachel was slightly better than him. "How about we call it a day, Jon? Gah... You did a number on me..." This time, Rachel was the one who proposed for conclusion, "Let's just say you win, deal?" She grinned, but her eyes begged him to let her rest.

"I couldn't agree more, Madame... and nah, let's call it a 'tie'~" With a rather knowing smirk, Jon wiped his forehead then went to his pack, followed by Rachel, "I'll pay the session fee once we reach Syliras, how about it?" He offered.

"Sure thing, Jon, just... let's go, I want to go to the Soothing Waters, Priskil knows how much I needed it..."

"Does Priskil know everything?" A curious question from a curious young man.

"Hmmm, at least she knows all about me. I am her friend after all." With a wink, Rachel picked up her pack then began the short trek back to the Fortress City of Peace.
