Character Concept :
Keres has been an oddity his entire life: not completely any one thing. Even within himself, there is contradiction: two halves with different natures waring over how to make decisions. Instinctively he is a runner more likely to avoid conflicts unless he has a clear advantage. Emotionally he passionately engages both friends and foes. Somewhere between these two sides is a compromise, one he has just begun the search for. Meanwhile, he is allowing life to take him where it pleases.
Character History
Birth :
In the Spring of 491, an Inarta hunting party, that had failed to encounter any significant game until late in the day, allowed themselves to stay too long on the trail. After having noticed this mistake they turned back, towards Wind Reach, into the setting sun. Had they not been enthralled by the red mosaic painted on the clouds above them as they flew they may have noticed the Zith hunters that took to the air below them.
Of the five Inarta Eagle Riders only one survived the attack. She was a young woman who later told of how the Zith had bound her and forced her to watch as they feasted on her companions as well as their Eagles before raping her. She told of how her horror lasted through the entire night and only ended just before dawn when the Zith unbound her and chased her, still naked, through the trees and melting snow into Sanikas Valley, within view of the Watchrider. The encounter left her with child.
For six months the young woman made little recovery from her ordeal as the strain on her body of the rapid Zith gestation was too taxing. Then, on the 28th day of Fall, Keres was born half an hour after his twin brother, Kall.

Childhood :
The brothers' mother never even considered caring for the children, and in fact refused to ever look upon them. Thus, it was that the midwife initially cared for them and named them before turning them over to the community nursery.
Growing up in the nursery was not overly difficult for the brothers owing to their accelerated Zith development. It was, however, difficult for the Inarta who were unaccustomed to the quick learning granted by the Zith blood. At five years of age, both brothers began to feel separated from the Inarta. They had a deep familial bond that was alien to the Inarta, and both longed to expand that bond to encompass others.
By the time the brothers were six they had begun grinding their claws down and wearing any clothing they could to hide the lite fur on their bodies. They even began to act as if they felt no bond between them and rarely allowed others to see them together. Such they remained until their eighth birthday when they were elevated to the rank of Yasi.

Adolescence :
At ten years of age, after what would have been a natural scuffle between Keres and an older male left that older male severely injured, both brothers were separated from the other adolescents. They were dismissed from classes and their workloads altered as if they had prematurely become part of the Dek.
Both brothers lashed out at their superiors often, but would eventually accept what work they were given, until, at fifteen a very young Endal over reacted to one of Kall's angry outbusts. The fight that ensued left Kall slain. Out of instinct, Keres threw himself at Kall's slayer and tore the young Endal's throat out with his teeth.
The Inarta that witnessed this were horrified and stunned. By the time they had recovered enough to react, it was too late, Keres had fled. He was witnessed, his mouth and neck smeared with blood, running through various parts of Wind Reach.
The last Inarta that saw him was the Watchrider who reported seeing a young man running headlong into the woods as the sun set.

Young Adulthood :
After fleeing from Wind Reach, the only home that he had ever known and a place that had always treated him as an outsider, he searched for the one place in the world that he thought he would be accepted, the Zith.
After some searching, Keres found a small, single family, Zith settlement. Where he expected to be greeted with accepting arms he was rapidly subdued and made a slave. His Zith blood then, for the first time, began to work to his advantage. He was far from being accepted as an equal by the Zith family, but treated well and given dominance over two other slaves, both human. As time passed, he began to feel the yoke of servitude slowly lift and began to integrate in small ways into the Zith social structure.
Four years into his time with the Zith, a sizeable human war-party attacked the colony, killing most of the inhabitants. The few Zith that survived fled to Xy, but Keres, not wishing to remain a slave, wandered into the woods. That was three weeks before his arrival in Sunberth.

Other Information :
Unknown to Keres, his and Kall's mother never recovered from the trauma of her attack. After giving birth to the twins she realized that Wind Reach was not large enough for her to not one day encounter them. Thus, she would forever be haunted by the memories of the attack. In the Winter of 492, she leapt to her death.
Where Keres' right eye is dark blue and his left eye is lite green, Kell's eyes were reversed.
Although he long ago abandoned the practice of grinding down his finger claws, for the purpose of wearing shoes, he still grinds down his toe claws. Since his fingers have visible claws, he will often wear gloves or otherwise conceal his hands.
