A great deal of mystery surrounds the distilleries at Blacksugar. Many can say that they have seen the building from afar, but the Morealis Dynasty has long discouraged any from stepping into the boundaries of the building. Crop refuses to grow in the vicinity, the ground barren and black in sharp contrast to the remainder of Blacksugar. Dimeer Morealis, realizing this when he was the acting head of Dynasty, used the plot of land to construct the Distillery instead. Every fortnight, a shipment of fresh-made molasses is sent to the distillery, the entire venture headed by Matthias Morealis, the only man to be known to walk into the distillery. An enigma even to the Dynasty itself, the place is rumoured to be haunted, the hypothesis supported only by idle gossip and widespread by captivating tales of murder and disappearances told by the bards of the Askara family. Dimeer, and more recently, Dimitri Morealis, have ignored the rumours and have quickly put an end to any efforts of investigating the distillery, deciding that their time is better spent on the other matters of estate, leaving Blacksugar Distillery fully under the care of Matthias. While Matthias never leaves the distillery, much of the bookkeeping and business end of the Distillery's affairs are handled personally. He keeps all of his business ledgers in an office within the building, keeping discretion tantamount. While others distribute his product, Matthias keeps all of the business management in it of itself, to himself. While the going-ons within the Distillery itself are a complete mystery, the product manufactured within, Kenashian rum, is savoured and known by nearly all of Kenash, leaving those that live in the city conflicted about its existence, but otherwise content to leave it alone. The distillery only seems to operate in the night, giving it a far-off, desolate appearance in the daylight. Noises, both from the workings of the distillery itself, and ghastly moans can be heard in the dead of night, though, due to the desolate nature of the distillery, they are not commonly heard.   Matthias Name: Matthias Morealis Race: Human DoB: Winter, 448 AV PoB: Kenash Title: Renowned Rum Distiller. Skills: 89 Distillation, 74 Bookkeeping, 56 Organization, 52 Philtering, 29 Herbalism, 26 Gadgeteering, 15 Spiritism Gnosis: None Additional Info: A solitary sort, Matthias has his nephew (Dimitri's) Dynasty's best interests at heart. He insists upon keeping his solidarity within the Distillery as a means of protecting the rest of them, as well as a way of distancing them from the rumours swirling about the place, though his plan is not working as he wished. He allows no one to enter the grounds, but leaves four vats of rum outside of the distillery every fortnight for the Morealis to collect as they leave their shipment of molasses. He is the only living person to know about the number of ghosts that live in Blacksugar's Distillery, though rumours persist.   Ghosts Name: Isai Morealis Race: Ghost (formerly Human) DoD: 81 Winter, 512 (Age 16) PoB: Kenash Title: Ghost Skills: Possession 38, Materialization 23, Soulmist Projection 41, Gnosis: None. Additional Info:Isai was one of the youngest daughters of the Morealis family before her mysterious disappearance in 512. None of the Morealis save for Maathias himself know for a fact (though in a year's time, assumptions were made) that she is dead, and none save for Isai herself knows the reasoning as to why she remains as a ghost. She is often prone to possessing Maathias, though to little effect, or using her Soulmist to levitate an assortment of bottles, the action generally followed with a dark, low chant of the words, "One, two... three. He always chose the third... sometimes the second and *sigh* never the first..." Isai and Mia have a very spiteful relationship and always seek to defame the other to Matthias. One cannot be sure as to whether this relationship is the result of their sharing the distillery, or if they knew one another in life. Name: Mia Goldwave Race: Ghost (formerly Svefra) DoD: 17 Spring, 513 (Age 19) PoB: Unknown (presumably on the Suvan Sea) Title: Ghost Skills: Possession 12, Materialization 53, Soulmist Projection 36 Gnosis: None. Additional Info: Mia was a Svefra visiting the city of Kenash. Not much is known about her life as one of the living, though she is the primary source of the rumours revolving around the distillery. The moans are generally her wails of despair. She is prone to violent rises in temper and will often break bottles until Maathias calms her down. She is prone to shouting out, "Three! He chose the third... The first was gone, but I wasn't... Why?!" Mia and Isai have a very spiteful relationship and always seek to defame the other in Matthias' eyes. One cannot be sure as to whether this relationship is the result of their sharing the distillery, or if they knew one another in life, though if one listens to Mia's outbursts, an informed decision can be made.   Goods or Services All transactions are handled outside of the Distillery in Blacksugar, but pricing is as follows: Pricing per gallon starts at 10GM per, but lowers with quantity. Rum (36 Gallon Barrel): 290 GM Rum (72 Gallon Puncheon): 514 GM Rum (108 Gallon Butt): 830 GM Rum (216 Gallon Tun): 1454 GM Rum (450 Gallon Vat): 2800 GM Prices are for the Morealis Selection rum, which is the most reasonably priced rum available. Exporting Kenashian Rum will add a tax to the cost, to be arranged by quantity with the Storyteller.   Types of Rum Morealis Selection: A rum product aged for no more than five years. Well-crafted and stored in a deep, heavily-charred barrel, this dark rum has a strong, distinguishable taste and is enjoyed by non-Kenashians. Weaker than the majority of the higher-grade stock, this rum is the most commonly exported rum, and generally not enjoyed by the Kenashian populace, who has become more accustomed to the richer rums available. 80 proof (40% ABV). Blacksugar Reserve: A rum product aged for thirty years in the womb of Blacksugar household, this rum is the most commonly consumed in Kenash proper. A deep, distinct taste marks the rum, accented by caramel and lightly spiced. This rum is enjoyed by Freeborn and Dynasty members alike, though the wealthier stock in Kenash will avoid drinking it in favour of the more expensive bottles. 100 proof (50% ABV) Cost: Multiply existing scale by 1.5x Maathias' Selection: A bottle of this rum will rarely, if ever, leave the soils of Kenash. Rumoured to be distilled with the blessing of Sivah himself (a false rumour perpetuated by the Morealis Dynasty) this rum carries the lightest wisp of citrus in its flavour, the distinctive taste bringing to the mind evocations of merriment and delight near the waters of the Suvan Sea. Extremely coveted by all manners of Dynasty life, this flavoured rum was aged for fourty-five years and remains, to this day, Maathias' most well-renowned out of his distributed rum products. This rum does not sell in quantities more than a pair of barrels and has been reproduced (in quantities equalling to a vat) more than four times in its existence. One gallon sells for 40 mizas and prices are not discounted for quantity. A person in possession of more than a barrel of this rum or offers a taste to a person may find that their relations improve. 120 proof (60% ABV) Blacksugar - Silver: The finest of the finest of the known Kenashian rums. This premium rum is found only in Kenash and has, as of yet, to ever leave the gates of the city. A connoisseur's dream is to taste the sweet body of this lightly spiced concoction. Maathias' masterwork has yet to be reproduced, and the Morealis Dynasty has spread the rumour that the steps to create this master work has been lost. Distinctive in the fact that the rum's bottle, a transparent crystal, is gilded with pure silver leaf, this rum is priceless outside of Kenash. Within the city limits, a single bottle (the only quantity that a person could ever manage to get their hands on in a single purchase) is 300GM. A person known to possess this particular bottle of rum is renowned by connoisseurs. 120 proof (60% ABV) The Morealis Spirit: This rum is as of yet unknown to anyone besides Maathias himself and perhaps a select few of his family members who have listened in on his ramblings. Nothing is known about this particular type of rum save that merely eight bottles exist, all of them in the racks of the Blacksugar Distillery.
