Day 18, Season Spring, 514 AV
13th Bell
The Warren was much more bearable with spring temperatures rising—though the lower levels still retained quite a chill, especially in the early mornings. For Rinya however that was much more tolerable knowing at the end of her shift it would still be warm enough for flying. It gave her something to look forward to after the long winter that basically kept her grounded for much too long for her liking. Her new partner at the Warren also made things easier on her—perhaps because he wasn’t one to chase after her like a prize.
Trynmal was younger than any other Akalak she had met. He was kind of feisty actually, in a different way from Rhys. He joked with her of course… often teased her actually of being caught in a dark corner with her husband the onetime Jorin had accompanied her to work. He had been true to his word, he hadn’t muttered a word of it to anyone else—but he did take the time when they were alone patrolling to poke at her every once and awhile. Unlike Rhys, Rinya felt far more free to actually laugh with Trynmal rather than threaten him to shut his mouth.
Rinya hopped that today would be a fairly quiet day at work. Most days were, but she knew the rare days when trouble did stir, that it was never easy to deal with. She wandered down the second floor hallway towards one of the store rooms that she often met up with Trynmal at before patrol. Usually the Akalak was already there waiting for her, but today the hallway was completely empty. Raising one brow, she wasn’t quite sure what to think of it. Adjusting the quiver of arrows strapped across her back, along with her bow, so that she could lean her back up against the wall while she waited for her partner.
The wait couldn’t have been more than a few chimes before Trynmal came bounding down the hall towards her. As he approached however she noticed something different about it—he was carrying a bow and quiver as well. Trynmal skidded quite literally to a stop in front of her, leaning forward to rest his hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath. Rinya didn’t bother trying to hide the smirk that crossed her face as she stared down at him. After giving him a few ticks to catch his breath, she tilted her head to one side. "I didn’t know you knew how to shoot a bow…" Rinya trailed the sentence off as Trynmal shot her a shy smile.
"Well," Trynmal stood straight, looking rather sheepish as his right hand came up to rub at the back of his neck. "I don’t actually know how." Rinya blinked at him a moment before she frowned at her partner. It didn’t make sense… if he didn’t know how to use a bow why in the world would he bring one to the Warren? Trynmal must have seen her trying to connect the dots because he barked out an uncomfortable laugh and shook his head. "My father is pushing me to learn new weapon. I thought maybe…" He didn’t bother to finish the sentence. Rinya already knew what he was going to ask of her.
Thus far she had only ever attempted to teach one person archery—that being her husband. Jorin was steadily improving on his archery too, though he would probably make more progress if he practiced more often than he did. Rinya never pushed him for it herself, seeing as she knew his personal view on weapons that could kill. A well placed arrow could incapacitate someone—or very well kill them. His aim was currently so far off that he’d be lucky to pull the first option off, but she was fairly sure the reason he was so very wary of the bow was because someday he could kill someone with it. On purpose or even accidentally…
Trynmal on the other hand—while wired with so much energy she was surprised he could even stand still at this very moment—seemed to have infinite patience when it came to learning something, or so he told her. The fact he wanted to learn her own weapon of choice however rather surprised her. He could learn any weapon… "Why bow?" She blurted out the words before she could control them, though Trynmal was obviously expecting it. He gave a small shrug, motioning with a quick jerk of his head that they should probably at least patrol while they discussed her… possibility of teaching him archery.
