Markus was glad his back was to S'Essy when she called him dear. Or else she would have seen the colour that came into his cheeks. It was lucky that the armour he wore did not allow for details of the pressure of her body go through to his back. Or the cheeks would have gained a little more colour. She asked for what prize he wanted for carrying her. Many things came to mind, but none of them lingered for more than a tick or two. Finally a warm and tired smile crossed his lips as he figured out a good way to test the healer.
"Why don't you surprise me?" He spoke as he felt the pressure of her head against his shoulder. The poor woman was tired, either that or she was enjoying herself lying against him. Like he was carrying a child to bed after a long journey. Markus knew what the inside of the cabin would look like. He had been in hundreds of these during his time as a knight and prior that as a squire. If they had not been vandalized by some shameless punks and marauding bandits then they all were the same on the inside. Simple, but sufficient. Words were spoken into his ear and the woman was not sleeping as he had assumed when her head had rested upon his shoulder.
"I have not..." Markus' voice got a bit distant as the woman reminded him of the idea with the statue that he had had. Perhaps he should get out the journal and the quill and write down his ideas before he forgot about them. Was that not the purpose of the journal? For him to write down what happened and make sure he did not forget the important details. "Though something tells me you will never forget about it." Markus said a little later ended with a short chuckle. "And still! That was the exception to the rule!" He argued a little before he put down the Konti healer and continued to bring in the things.
The animated response to his light-hearted teasing made him laugh a little and when she refused to let him get to work it only helped to widen the smile on his lips. Stubbornness when promised massage. Something he would have to remember. The mischief in him contemplated ways he could use that to his advantage. She managed to bring a spark of fire into the stove and the joy. The jubilation that she felt when that happened widened his eyes in a delightful surprise. Edges of his lips were pulled back and teeth were shown in a wolfy smile as she asked him to remove his armour. Many ideas he wouldn't mind airing.
"I barely notice it, to be honest. I've grown so accustomed to wearing it that it is only if I get armour that doesn't fit me properly that I notice it. But I suppose anyone would notice if they got cold steel gnawing into their flesh for eight bells a day." Markus spoke as the woman lay on a cot. Resting herself. Markus could understand if she were tired. He felt the same weariness creep through his skin. He most of all wanted to just lie down and sleep. But they had to eat. Markus rummaged through the backpack. Looking for the thing he could make soup with. Delicious well tasting soup. Or so he assumed it would be. Good thing his water skin was full. Needed to get that water to boil.
"You still look fit to me. Your body just have to get used to the travelling. You'll find yourself stronger than you ever imagined." Markus said placing one of the traveller's stocks on one of the unused cots. "And you did just spend... what? half a season on a ship? It is limited how much training you can do on board a ship. Especially with a lot of leering men about." Markus spoke as he began to prepare the food. It was as simple as placing the water over the fire, wait for it to boil. Apply the food stuffs. Stir. Wait. Stir. Voila, soup. Markus began removing his armour as he waited for the water to boil. "If you want to, you can get some rest while I prepare the dinner." He spoke as the large breastplate was pulled off and placed against the bed. The chainmail followed and the shirt underneath. He straightened his back and pulled his arms back. Stretching himself. Feeling the aching muscles and joints strain and he let out a soft sigh of relief. He rolled with his shoulders. Ensured that there were no complications. He removed the Peacekeeper from his hip and place it against a cot as well. The smaller dagger remained by his side. He put out a long prolonged exhale. It had been a good first day of travel. Though as he looked over his shoulder. A single glance at his companion, he felt a jab of guilt for the way he had closed down in the river. Thoughts he pushed aside. Focused on stretching himself out properly. Get every kink out of his body. Ensure he was fit for fight as he stretched limbs. Made them limber. What he really needed was a good quarter of a bell of shadow fighting. Get his limbs warm and expend some pent up energy.
