Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Midmorning, Sunette walked into Artfire Glassworks for another day of work. She was the second there that day behind Nimi, who was busy spinning glass on a rod in the furnace dedicated to blue glass. Sunette assumed she was working on a wine bottle. They always worked on wine bottles. She'd spent her first day on the job making glass birds, though. Azvan and Nimi had just wanted to see what she could do, so she made something easy for them. But since then, it was actual business. Sunette sighed, going to their order logs and running a finger down the page, attempting to find what to make first. She pushed out her lips and made a clicking noise as she read down the page, the handwriting all a bit sloppy for her taste.

Aaaand… Bottles. Sunette groaned, gathering all required materials to go about making more bottles. In the back of her mind as she made her way to the tool storage area, she thought about all of the other more interesting things she could be making, her own red glass pendant swinging around her neck as she grabbed all of her tools and lugged them over to the station, arms almost overflowing with the bundle.

From outside of the building, the Sweetday was in full swing. Children could be heard going up and down the street headed to and from the bazaar with with excitement. Sunette could smell the baked goods all morning, the entire town smelling of pastries and sugary sweets. Sunette had never gotten to try any of these herself, but she wanted to oh so badly. And, of course, the one day she would have the perfect opportunity, she was stuck inside the shop.

Sunette sighed, standing in the shop where she had a nice view of the street. She sighed deeply, realizing that she wouldn't really enjoy the festival, considering that she had no one to go with. She'd begun to accept the loneliness though.

Nimi spotted Sunette staring off, raising an eyebrow and calling out to her to bring her back to reality.

Sunette!

Sunette snapped out of her downward spiraling train of thought, her body jerking in surprise of Nimi's shout. The jacks (large tongs used for shaping) fell from the bundle of metal items in Sunette's arms, clanking loudly against the ground.

Don't get so distracted. We have work to do.

Sunette sighed, …Sorry. I'll get it in a minute.

Sunette waddled over to the station, quickly setting down everything before retrieving the jacks. She glanced up once more, a child eating a brown apple-shaped thing on a stick walking past.

Hey, Nimi? What do they over those apples in for this holiday?

Caramel. Now start working. If you get enough work done today, I might let you go see the festival. You seem to be distracted enough by it, maybe that will help you focus.

Sunette didn't know what caramel was, but it must have been sweet. She smiled softly, taking the tongs back to the station near the furnace. She placed it with all of the other equipment, replacing it in her hand with a hollow steel tube. She reached her free hand out to open the furnace, a wave of heat rushing against her face. She let out a deep breath, sitting the rod back down and tying up her hair before she began-- neck sweat wasn't something she enjoyed dealing with, but it was something she couldn't avoid when working about glass at over 2,000°F in temperature.

She scooped the rod back up, placing the tip of it into the furnace. She began to turn it constantly, slowly enough to grab up the molten glass in the furnace, but not too quickly as to prevent the molten glass from latching on. It slowly began to accumulate, much in a way she assumed the caramel was put onto the apple she'd just seen.

First Commission in Riverfall [Artfire Glassworks]

The glass sun above the archway glimmered and glowed as bright as Syna itself, lit by the light of her adoration and grace. Riverfall was a maze of wide and clean pathways, the likes of which Jaye had never seen. She had wandered the corridors transfixed by the smells and sensations that permeated even her human senses until she had stumbled up several stairways and found herself before the building.

Heat emanated from the walls of the cliff and as she ran her hand over its rough exterior she sighed with delight, feeling the warmth slide up along her arms like a warm smooth hand caressing her body. The courtyard before the door was expansive and elaborate. Large glass sculptures hoarded the ground and reached for the heavens. Peculiar bulbous unrecognizable shapes rested beside recognizable marvels of Akalaks and humans in various forms, doing various activities.

A large glass fountain poured brilliant water into a tub and birds fluttered about the water dancing in its gentle waves. Fortilla was the only bird that had rested with her since entering Riverfalls gates. Though she had seen them from time to time they were skittish of the noise and activity of the people bustling within the city. Aged and dependent on Jaye, Fortilla resided on her shoulder nestling into her hair bashfully when anyone peered too closely at her colourful plumage.

The heavy rock wall allowed no sound to escape the interior and as Jaye ran her fingers over the copper handle of the door, slowly turning it, she was created with the soft chink and spine tingling scratching of metal and glass meeting.

The room she had entered held no people, only more the deliriously shimmering glass creations. A large blue Akalak dominated the center, too scared to touch it, for fear of it shattering, Jaye gazed at it eyes glimmering blue in wonder. Large windows stretched along the room allowing the light to enter unperturbed. Several sun catchers hung in the windows spinning and twisting with the movement of air throughout the building.

The second door was less elaborate, and much heavier. Heaving it open Jaye was surprised to see a less open area than the previous two, with several doorways opening up on either side. Before her several workers moved about, disregarding her entrance. "H-Hello..." She murmured into the space quietly, suddenly sure she wasn't supposed to be here.
