The skies were grey, as overcast clouds enticed droplets to fall. So it had been over the last four days, alternating between scattered showers, and the calmness of promised rain. Discretely bundled in the folds of a cloak, a slender woman stepped into the arms of a majestic building. As she passed, a few of the Shinya guards nodded in respect, and she in turn tilted her head in their direction, with a smile. "What to do..." Sousa Dawn sighed, as she through the doors of the Bharani Library. Early that morning, the Catholicon had put forth a call for herbalists and healers, and to Sousa, it seemed that they were always short on hands. 'Ah well,' she thought, slipping off her cloak to reveal a dress made of warmly toned fabrics of creams and golds, 'it is not in the line of my expertise- though knowledge is always useful. It would be an interesting topic to peruse, and perhaps I will find something for a new perfume,' she mused, 'some useful pleasure reading... but where to begin?' The Matriarch's eyes scanned the vast multitude of volumes and scrolls lining the walls. Skyglass crystals illuminated the room as she took the wide array of shelves.
Dissatisfaction flitted through her verdant green eyes. The head of the Dawn house had originally been hoping to distract herself from the recent shift in politics, what with the newly appointed member of the Council. It had been a frustrating turn of events, and one she found displeasing. An upstart had passed her in one bound, and there was little, if anything she could do about it- or could she?
She considered it for a moment; the new addition to the Council was disciplined in the arts of Auristics, Glyphs, and Magecraft, but what this newcomer might do, now that she was in seat, did not sit well with Sousa.
No matter, it was for troubled thoughts such as these that she had come to the Library, where a wealth of knowledge was just at her finger tips. Who knew? Perhaps she would find something useful.
As she appraised the shelves, she selected a few volumes: two of herb-lore, one of practical applications, and another that described the properties of the local flora. All three contained some tidbits of interesting information, however, they were not exactly what she had had in mind. The two of herb-lore seemed to be outdated or from a different region and contained facts about flora that could survive in the deserts of Eyktol and the grassy plains of Cyphrus, while the practical applications were restricted to cooking and home-made remedies for minor ailments, such as toothaches and sore muscles. With a sigh, she looked around for someone who would perhaps point her in the right direction.
