82nd of Summer, 514 AV
The Glyphs truly reflected their mistress in most every conceivable way, elegant in some ways but also somewhat plain looking in appearance and somewhat uninspired. It was the meaning behind the Glyphs where strength was drawn from, the thing that made her one of the more potent Glyphers since the fall of an empire so long ago. She stood within a decaying remnant of that empire, the last bastion of its strength and still her talents outstripped most. Plain looking the woman was, this pulser working within one of many laboratories within Sahova but within her was strength beyond the ken of the majority or mortals.
Wizard Annalisa Marin sat where she often did most days, at a desk seemingly shoved into a corner without care and surrounded by scattered pieces of parchment. Each one was filled with various Glyphing diagrams, each one more potent than the last but they had been discarded. Currently her eyes scanned over the parchment before her, visualizing the exact pattern she desired given the previous imperfections. As she did her brush wielding hand glided across the parchment, the world around her already starting to lose substance and form. Grey eyes were intensely focused upon her task, her mind almost becoming single minded upon her craft.
Each Glyph brought forth was a work of art; lesser Glyphers might very well look to the items she could create as being near the pinnacle of creation. Why should they not? Anna’s hand was a flurry of motion across the parchment, the stylized inverted triangle that made up her Focus was brought into existence within a few mere ticks and already she was moving on to a ring of smaller geometric shapes around it. The Barrier was enforced with the tasks of containment and holding whatever was to go within the Focus steady.
This pair of Glyphs was place in the center of the parchment, only the beginning of the sigil that Anna had planned out. Next she arranged another pair of the same Glyphs to the upper right of the central pair, extending a line of geometric shapes to the central Glyph from the Barrier. These were the Path’s and they were to connect the entire affair together in the end. From here Anna placed pair of Foci and Barriers at the upper left, the lower right, and then the lower left. Once completed the sigil looked rather reminiscent to a five side of a die, with Paths connected the outer ones to the central one.
Connected to the four outer ones she created a jumble of stylized geometric shapes nearby, crafting a Trigger Glyph for each one. The sorceress them inscribed common lettering next to each one of the four Triggers, the conditions for the activation being planned out. These normally took some time, but Anna had a number of Trigger conditions that she often used that were all incredibly specific. For this modified scroll sigil she intended for its purpose to be to combine the four elements, to try and create a working model to see what might happen if she tried to combine them all. Ambitious, but Annalisa Marin was nothing if not ambitious.
When I, Annalisa Marin the creator of these Glyphs on the 82nd of Summer 514 AV, shed a drop of my own blood upon the parchment this scroll is inscribed upon the Trigger will activate and lower the Barrier, allowing the magic within the Focus to travel along the Paths.
With this task done Anna created another jumble of stylized geometric shapes, or at least moved to attempt it. In her rush and flurry her hand knocked over a vial of ink and stained the sigil itself with an overflow of ink. The tall sorceress shot up from her seat, cursing loudly as she glared harshly at the ruined work. So many repetitions, and just like that her work was completely and utterly ruined. Anna clenched her fists, allowing her breath to escape her lips in an irritated sigh. She was better than this, that kind of mistake was a rookie Glypher mistake. She was supposed to be among the higher tier of Glyphers.
Perhaps it was the fact she had not slept in over twenty four bells that contributed to her carelessness, the dark circles around her eyes more prominent. Anna sighed softly, massaging her temples in an attempt to push back a slight headache growing in her skull. She needed to sleep, that was what she needed to do before attempting this again. The sorceress was no Nuit, she could not work for days upon end non-stop. She needed to rest her eyes and mind, especially before attempting something so very high risk to begin with. But she had been so close…
The tall dark haired woman shook her head, her bare feet already slapping upon the stone floor towards the room that contained her personal quarters. She was dressed in her work attire today, foregoing her more fanciful robes in favor of something more comfortable. A simple tunic and trousers, which was all she needed really. Ink blotches were visible here and there but overall they looked rather in good condition compared to her more worn clothing. They were her favor clothes really, suiting her rather well for practical reasons.
Anna came to the metal door that led to her quarters, pushing it open slowly and groaning as she did. Her free hand was already pulling her high ponytail out of its normal bound state, long black locks falling freely about her head. She did fear sleep to some degree, her nightmares still a frequent occurrence unfortunately enough. However if she did not sleep Anna expected that she’d probably just drop dead from eye strain and exhaustion.
