Her brown hues stared back at her as they peered into the surface of the water that was currently held in a small little bowl, a bowl of which she was supposed to wash her hands in as she begun to get ready for the ceremony that was to take place just before the sun set over the horizon. This particular ceremony had been arranged many moons ago and the young woman had known about it, however dread had settled within her stomach as the rival tribe had arrived the night before. Their fires were shared and so was the food and drink as they celebrated in their new arrangement. Her gaze had settled upon the large toned man who wore only a pair of pants, his large muscles clear to all who viewed him. His black mane, framed his face as those green eyes seemed to bore into her as he sat across from her at the fire. He was silent and didn't partake in much of the activities or talk, in fact, neither did she. For this ceremony was a wedding and that man and she would be married under the setting set for all the spirits of the land to see.
A sigh graced her lips as she adjusted her white dress and slipped on her mother's white shelled necklace around her slim neck. It was old and had been passed down for many generations within the family, it had been passed on to her now, as it was her wedding day. It was thought that the necklace itself helped with the conceiving of a child when the two were expected to consummate their marriage that night as they lay in the same tent. Gently her fingers stroked the eagle feathers of the headdress that she was expected to wear. She did not want to have to go through with this wedding but if she didn't, her people would be constantly suffering at the hands of the rival tribe and so, the only way to break a truce with them, was to combine their blood and she closed those muddy pools of hers as she tried to gather herself together. Even if she had outright refused, her father, the leader of their tribe would drag her out and force her to marry the man. Either she did it willing or not was up to her and she wanted to keep some kind of dignity about her if she wanted to show a brave face to all present. Slowly, she lifted the headdress up to place upon her head, her brown locks flowing down her back unhindered and she turned to the flap of the tent. It was now or never, she told herself and walked out of the tent to face her fated path.
