AppearanceRace: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Birthday: 92th of Fall 496 A.V.
Birthplace: Zeltiva
Appearance: A young man of a medium brown skin tone with dark brown eyes and a woolly clump of black hair, Duluute is of normal human physique, standing at six feet tall and weighing just under one hundred sixty pounds. His body is small and, though hardened with training, remains below true athletic strength. Character wise, Duluute tends to carry himself rigidly and gracelessly, almost like a machine. Despite this, his atmosphere is generally friendly and welcoming, which sometimes makes the movements comedic. All in all, Duluute takes care to be well groomed and subconsciously tries to be appealing in public eyes.
Wardrobe wise, this story is given even more truth as Duluute’s style tends to consist of plain clothing that normally complements black. This clothing is further complemented by an assortment of jackets and accessories all meant to hide his awkward nature.
Character ConceptThough Duluute has a subconscious need to conform to the public, this doesn’t necessarily mean he’s insecure about himself. Instead, he simply fears isolation to the point that he does what he can to stay in the norm without even realizing it. However, there are still several traits unique to Duluute that he isn’t afraid to showcase. For instance, although he may come across debilitating challenges, Duluute tries to look at things in a positive light. He hates to linger on the negatives of any subject for too long unless he has too. However, it goes even deeper than that.
After living so many years in the peaceful Zeltiva, it’s natural for one to acquire a dislike for violence. With Duluute, this feeling is even more extreme. He actually fears it to the point that he would rather make radical efforts for peace than inflict a single blow. In fact, his stand on nonviolence is so extreme that it almost kept him from eating at one point. That was before he learned about Dira and the process of death.
Still, Duluute is reluctant to harm another creature, let alone cause their demise, but his views reflect on more than just nonviolence. He is also somewhat of a coward by nature. Duluute shies away from conflict and other forms of turmoil in favor of simply blending in. Even when his curiosity is burning for knowledge, he simply follows his brain telling him not to get involved. Unless there’s no danger in the situation, he is reluctant to take on the challenge.
There are of course some exceptions to this. Mainly they revolve around the need for Duluute to help those in danger. Though he both hates violence and steers clear of confrontation, if there’s someone in trouble he would at least think twice about walking away.
Unfortunately, even with all his caution, Duluute isn’t immune to turmoil. Even he has experienced his share of physical and emotional scars, but he tries to keep those to himself. Why bother boring people with details he’s long since thrown away? The way he sees it, all that matters is what’s happening in the present. Whatever someone did or had done to them in the past is their own business. If they want to tell their story or not, that’s up to them.
Character HistoryBefore he was the man he is today, Duluute was being raised by his mother Kira and his father Alfred in peaceful little Zeltiva. They were a very small family that got by thanks to Kira working as a scribe and Alfred as a fisherman. Duluute was even able to make a few extra Zilos apprenticing with them from time to time. That’s how Duluute learned his basic writing skills as well as how to fish...the segue that led Duluute to the activity of his dreams. While Duluute had no particular interest in either writing or fishing, his greatest surprise came when he was allowed to cook up one of the fish caught one day. After that first day making a rotisserie style salmon, he was hooked for life.
Unfortunately, this was also the day Duluute learned about Dira, since he felt guilty about sticking a hook in a fish’s mouth. Though he realized the necessity for killing to eat, he was reluctant to fish again after that day. However, he still worked with his father to learn about what happened to the fish after it was dead. In fact, he stopped working with Kira altogether so he could focus on learning about cooking from his father.
It wasn’t until a few months later that Duluute learned that there was another way to learn how cook. That’s the day he decided to visit the University of Zeltiva. He would have joined right then and there if not for both the costs of attending and his relatively young age. So Duluute stayed with his father and kept working with him. After a few years of cheap spending, dedication, and patience, Duluute eventually made all the money he needed to attend the university.
Unfortunately, the Great Djed storm of 512 A.V. and the commotion it stirred up set him back a couple extra years. In that time he had to focus on helping with the effort to rebuild, including learning how his family members in other cities were doing. Though Mizahar was forever changed by the cataclysm, Duluute tried his best to stay positive. By 514 A.V. the turmoil and backlash caused by the storm had subsided for the most part. Although there was an undeniable change within Zeltiva, the times had at least reverted to semi-peace. That meant Duluute could turn his attention back on the focus of learning to cook.
Only, Duluute hesitated before trying for entrance. The rumors swirling about made him question trying for his education. However, he decided to go through with it anyway, knowing that it might be the only place he could learn about cooking from experts. Needless to say, it didn't end well, as Duluute didn't really see a point in solely reading for something he had to use his hands for. So he eventually decided to return home a couple hundred zilos poorer.
It's been almost a full season since then, and Duluute has continued to work with his father. However, his dream of becoming a chef hasn't diminished in the slightest. It's only the execution of this dream that's changed. Rather than reading up on recipes and such, a better option would be to go out and find them himself.
