The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

28th of Summer, 514 AV

Outside the city Kaik sat on a bench in the Trail of Waterfalls alongside him was the newest addition to his "family" as well as Arya. Earlier that day he had spotted a stall selling an assortment of entertainment gear, a child-sized manikin caught his attention. Kaik was definitely skeptical of how much it cost but he still bought in the end. The doll was devoid of any features only wearing cloth clothing and resembled a child. After a long thought he decided on the name Oliver, intending for the doll to be a boy. He began work on the doll, trying to carve features for the boy with his brand new carving kit.

The reason for Kaik working on the doll outside the city was simple enough, he didn't want to be disturbed. While his home was a good place to work it wasn't the best place to enjoy the summer air. The Trail of Waterfalls proved to be the best location given how safe it was and he had a better chance to avoid people there than in the city. The only problem he didn't factor in was his appearance. He wore his usual attire, studded leather armor and gauntlets along with hood and a angle-knife by his side. Anyone walking by would question his innocence, at the very least he had his hood down, though that didn't help to cover up the marks around his neck. The rumors about about him also didn't help his image, all of them referring to the deaths of Ellen and his parents.

The sun was still high in the sky as Kaik finished making the final addition to Oliver. Despite having created two wooden doll, he just could not create the image he was looking for. There was no way he was going to be able to give Oliver ears due as that would ruin the shape of the head if he carved too far into it, so he had to settle for making small holes on both sides of his head. A nose was just barely manageable since he made it quite small. The eyes sockets proved to be simple enough as did the mouth which was a simple straight line. Oliver was then given blue eyes and medium long black hair. The final step was to animate him, but given how much time he had already used up Kaik just wanted to see what the trail had to offer.

Standing up he asked Arya to carry Oliver, "Thanks Arya it's a good thing I brought you." Arya felt happy to fulfill her master's order as her soon to be brother, not that she had any sense of what family is, was placed on her back. It was an amusing sight watching the young girl give a boy a piggyback ride. Kaik finished with his chuckling walked down the trail with Arya by his side.

[The Trail of Waterfalls] Playing With Magic (Nyra)

Postby Nyra on July 19th, 2014, 2:11 am

She wanted a break from her job, as bad as it sounded. ( Oh, you want to stop saving people from fires?! How horrible, Nyra! ) Sousa was nice enough to do so, saying she’d been working hard, even though she was pretty sure she wasn’t as capable as some of the others at work, but whatever. She’d get better, and beat them at everything. She had walked around the city for a few chimes, until she had heard a guide talking about the area of some place called the Waterfall Trail close to Lhavit.

She had thought the Trail was named for only one massive waterfall, but no, it was named for the waterfalls that were alongside the path, which was quite nice, she supposed, but it didn’t have the rainbow fish in the water, the plants that tasted like the sky. She really had to get over it- she wouldn’t ever probably go back, but still, it seemed impossible. It was like being an orphan, even though you fully knew your parents- their mannerisms, their love, their everything.

She was too into her thoughts, she thought, and let it go before she started to randomly cry in the middle of the street, with people all over her. She kept walking, trying to keep an impassive face, and saw 2 people. She squinted. No, three. Yes, three. It looked like a father and child, but why in the world was a child holding another kid? She walked closer, keeping footsteps quiet, or at least trying to.

The distraction was good, really, trying to be as stealthy as she could to see closer, trying to stay in the shadows even though it was useless with the color of blue on her shirt, and trying to see closer. The man.. was wearing studded leather armor? What the petch was this? A bloody thief, in the city of Lhavit? No, he probably wasn't. The hood wasn’t on, and the child wasn’t screaming for help, along with the one on the child.

It didn’t mean she trusted him, though. The guy could be some aggressive guy that was searching out, oh, she didn’t know. Something bad? She kept walking on the planks, only to slip and fall on a rock. She yelped, and pain started to stream from her leg, and she groaned, putting the uninjured knee up, the other one hissing in pain, and she tried to move up in case she had to run. It was a minor thing, but it hurt, and the man could come and hit her if he really was a bad guy.

She started to concentrate her djed around her right hand, making a green ball in her hand, not yet fire, but ready to shoot if the man came closer to her. She tried to make a fearsome face, but it was pretty hard in a child’s body, and she was pretty sure that it looked rather silly than anything. It made her drowsy slightly, but soon her body was full of adrenaline if the man came closer, ready to shoot.

OOC: If Kaik decided to go closer and help her up, then she’d quietly say “ Don’t come closer, I can hurt you, “ in her most dangerous voice, which really isn’t much, and also has a trace of fear in it, which he might hear. Also, I'm going to busy till Tuesday, but I'll try to answer as quick as I can. L:>

[The Trail of Waterfalls] Playing With Magic (Nyra)

Walking down the wooden trail Kaik spotted a child in a blue shirt. Normally one would question what a child was doing outside the city, but since Kaik did the same thing as a child he felt it wouldn't be bad for her to do the same.

Kaik could do nothing but pity the girl as she tried her best to hide in the shadows. Given that is was still daytime and she wore a blue shirt it would be difficult not to notice her. He assumed the girl was playing a game so he continued walking. Suddenly the girl slipped off the plank trail and unto a rock, consequently she yelped in pain which made Kaik all the more willing to go help her. Walking toward the girl he heard a small voice threatening to hurt him if he walked closer, which wouldn't have stopped Kaik if it were not backed up by the green ball in her hand.

Magic. An offensive type Kaik had to assume, more than likely a personal magic like Auristics. He stared in amazement at the magic she wield, then the realization an injured child was wielding magic set in. "What fool of a parent would teach a child magic? If not them then who was the petching idiot who did so?" He stood motionless in front of the girl trying to think of a plan.

The option of simply leaving was unthinkable for Kaik, he would not abandon the child even if she refused help. Still there was a high risk he would receive major injurious if not death. Running in like a idiot would guarantee his death or would cause her to overgive if he managed to dodge whatever came at him. "Argh! Whoever the petch was her teacher didn't do a very good job! This wasn't a life or death situation! You just tripped and now you're so quick to use magic!?" he rubbed his eyes, getting irritated at the situation. The child was making a funny face which he could only assume was a scowl, despite how close he was to death he looked away laughing. He looked back at her smiling, "Idiot...who taught you magic? You have to use your head, imagine what would happen if I was some criminal...you would be a prime target given your abilities...keep your magic a secret, at the very least you could have waited till I was face to face and then use your magic." The situation was laughable, here Kaik was lecturing a child while a green ball of death was aimed straight at him. Still Kaik felt his speech was surprisingly less timid in front of her, perhaps it was the fact she was child. Looking around he noticed a fairly large rock sitting in front of the child, if things turned bad it seemed good enough for protection. "Let me help you...you're the one who's hurt." He grabbed Arya's hand ready to run.

OOC: okay this is too adorable.. so let's not fight :3..unless you want to. It would kind of be out of her character to fight when the other uses logic anyway.

The man stared at her, judging her, momentarily stopping when he saw her djed, though she saw a hint of a grin on his face. What the piss?! Didn't he realize that she had this ball of green ready to fire?! She was about to say something, when suddenly he grinned a bit more, and began lecturing her. A small fire burned at her cheeks, slowly growing as the other lectured on and on.

Eventually, he stopped, and she couldn't help but make a small sigh once he was done, and the green from her hand faded. The damage was already done, though, the man being cautious with his dau-

No. The 'daughter' wasn't a girl at all- no hair? Marks were everywhere, one noticeably on her nose. She opened her mouth to talk, and then stopped. How was she going to approach this? She sighed again, and let her mouth run with apologies. "Okay, yeah, my bad, sorry sorry sorry.." She blushed again. Apologizing felt weird. It didn't really do anything in the end, besides reassuring people. "It's just that.. my parents died of bandits in the Peaks.. And I don't need that again for me. I apologize, again. " She didn't answer his question of how she'd learnt magic. The story was full of holes if he thought about it, but she hoped he wouldn't think about it.

Curiosity was shouting her name as she stared at the girl, and she asked, hoping to clear his mind of the story, not wanting to say she was an Ethaefal, but he probably wouldn't believe it, if she told him the truth anyway. She touched her leg, feeling a lesser burn as she touched it, and stood up. "So, uhm, anyway, what's your guy's name?" She asked awkwardly, looking curiously at the apparent girl.

OOCYeah let's not fight, I don't think Kaik could hurt a child.

Kaik was amazed at how calm and composed he was acting in front of the child. Normally it was hard for him to find the right words, but at the time he felt free to say what he felt like and do what he felt was right.

When the lecture was done the faint green glow of her hand died leaving only the red of her face. She began to apologize for her actions but then she brought up the subject of her parents. He could relate to that, in fact it it was he he didn't want to hear her say sorry anymore. As his thoughts dwelled on it the more strange things became. Who was taking care of the child? The most likely answer would be relatives but orphanage was another answer. Looking at her she looked normal, nothing to suggest she was living in the streets or even an orphanage.

Besides her appearance Kaik noticed her staring at Arya. From the distance Arya and the child had her cloak did nothing to mask her appearance. It was useless to hide what was already made obvious, so he resigned to just tell her what he was. Before he could do so she stood up, which worried him to no ends. He walked off the wooden platform not before ordering Arya stay as where she was. He was now close enough to the girl that if she fell he could catch her, "Take it easy on your leg, we don't want you falling unto another rock...if you want I can carry you over to the bench over there, then we can talk." Even if she had refused Kaik was determined to help the girl and would have swept her off her feet and quickly taken her to the bench.

Before such actions however he felt she deserved his name, he took a bow and said, "The girl's name you've been eyeing is Arya...my name is Kaik Leyr...given how I already know about you, I believe it's fair to tell you about myself...I am a world mage specializing in Animation...now then, will you let me carry you over to the bench?"

The man was acting so very composed, even when she still could shoot him with Reimancy, and she found that admirable, really. He started to talk like a dad or some other parental figure, saying to be careful, blah blah blah. She sighed at the part where he said ' want ' the second time, knowing when adults said that, they typically meant "I'm going to do it even though you say no". She might've been small, but she wasn't stupid. At least, she hoped she wasn't.. But the earlier incident proved she was quite an airhead sometimes. She wanted to cringe about it, but instead listened to his words.

Kaik and Arya. She repeated this several times in her head. Animation? She assumed Arya was something animated, somehow with magic. She sighed loudly in resignation when he asked to carry her, and she raised her hands up in show for him to move her to the bench. "Name's Cassia, nice to meet you." She took a quick glance at Arya, noting she was made of wood. It would be quite easy to burn.

"Can you make anything animated like this not out of wood? Reimancy would make a quick job out of this.. And how do you make this animated? Do they feel? And- yeah, okay, sorry, I'll wait till you get me to the bench.. Even though I can walk there, you know, but all you adults are always missing the definition of want and have to." She said, the last part have joking and half serious, with a slight smile.

Kaik was happy to see the girl willing to cooperate, even if she was clearly not happy about it. Picking her up was easier than he expected which made walking to the bench no problem. Her name was Cassia, he let the name sink in trying to make sure he didn't forget it. On the walk over to the bench she began asking all sorts of questions, ending it with a remark about adults with a smile.

Upon reaching the bench Kaik placed her on the bench carefully. He stayed standing up, "I'll answer all your questions but in return you must answer my single question honestly and I get to say what I will about it...why should you do that? Because as you say adults are always missing the definition of want and have to."

He asked Arya to come closer and she does so, "Yeah just about anything I could animate, but just because I give a rock intelligence doesn't mean it's going to grow legs and walk," he wouldn't let that comment about Arya slide, "magic can make a quick job out of a lot of things...so to can a sword or bow...in your case a stationary rock would be able to care of you easily if it hit the back of your neck...ah I'm letting my emotions get ahead of me, oh well." He patted Arya's head and though she couldn't show it, she was overjoyed at the simple gesture. "Depending on the Animator and their skills they can have emotion, if the Animator felt it or if the object had the intelligence to do so, the object can feel....as for how it is done...that is a long and boring explanation, so unless you really want to hear it then ask later, now I want an answer."

Cassia was only a child, yet she was given a power that could easily kill a man or save another. Even if she was a child, even if he could only act like an adult, he wanted to show her what it meant to wield power. He looked straight at Cassia without hesitation, he began speaking, "Earlier you held my life in your hands...I don't want this to be a lecture...age will be irrelevant...this is just me talking to you and nothing else...were you really prepared to kill me? The power you wield can kill or save a man, but either way you must bear the consequences...hm well I suppose you don't need to say anything, I guess I just felt like talking...I need a walk." Kaik began walking away with Arya behind him, he looked back at Cassia and said, "You said you can walk by yourself? Then do you feel like taking a walk?"

"I'll answer all your questions but in return you must answer my single question honestly and I get to say what I will about it...why should you do that? Because as you say adults are always missing the definition of want and have to." She nodded. Hopefully the question wouldn’t be something about her past.

"Yeah just about anything I could animate, but just because I give a rock intelligence doesn't mean it's going to grow legs and walk," he wouldn't let that comment about Arya slide, "magic can make a quick job out of a lot of things...so to can a sword or bow...in your case a stationary rock would be able to care of you easily if it hit the back of your neck...ah I'm letting my emotions get ahead of me, oh well." He patted Arya's head, "Depending on the Animator and their skills they can have emotion, if the Animator felt it or if the object had the intelligence to do so, the object can feel....as for how it is done...that is a long and boring explanation, so unless you really want to hear it then ask later, now I want an answer." That was true about the earlier comment, but still.. fire was hard to deal with, rather than a rock. SHe could easily blow it out of thw way before it hit her, after all.

And answer she will. If it was about the past, he didn’t say to be honest. "Earlier you held my life in your hands...I don't want this to be a lecture...age will be irrelevant...this is just me talking to you and nothing else...were you really prepared to kill me? The power you wield can kill or save a man, but either way you must bear the consequences...hm well I suppose you don't need to say anything, I guess I just felt like talking...I need a walk." Kaik began walking away with Arya behind him, he looked back at Cassia and said, "You said you can walk by yourself? Then do you feel like taking a walk?" She nodded, and as she stood she concentrated to get a bit of Flux into the leg. It didn’t hurt that much now, which was good. No, she wasn’t, and really, she needed to be more careful about it. “So, anyway.. why Animation? You could’ve chose any other discipline, like Flux or Reimancy to be more offensive, and Shielding for defense, or something..”

Cassia only nodded in response to Kaik's offer to taking a walk. She stood up and stood there almost in a trance, he was about to say something but she snapped out of whatever was on her mind. "What am I doing? When did I become a teacher? I just don't understand why I'm like this! Was I always this confident?" Kaik could have never understood what it was that was making him so different than normal. Pushing the thought aside he focused in on the girl's next question, he had a faint idea what Shielding entailed given the name but the terms Reimancy and Flux were lost on him. Since Cassia had mentioned the two were offensive disciplines he could only assume they were both personal magic.

She had asked for the reason he chose Animation instead of any other discipline, normally he would be hesitant to say such things but he didn't feel the need to hide it. "I may say I am an Animator but that doesn't meant I haven't considered going into other discipline, but I think what you're asking is why I delved into magic...it is a cruel game we play Cassia, as life is but a game...I cared very dearly for a girl, only to have her taken away...so instead of moving fo-...forward I w-walked back...I-...want her back, but...that is...that is...impossible." By the time he was finished, his eye were aimed down at the ground not paying attention to anything. He trips face first into the wooden trail, falling didn't really hurt...but remembering Ellen's face tore him up inside. Arya quickly knelt beside her master, sad to see her master once again in such a pitiable state.

"Not again...I can't act like this again!" He held back his tears, making sure his face couldn't be seen by the girl. The thought of acting so pathetic in front of the child was unbearable. He tried to push himself up from the ground, both of his arms shaking as he did so. Still failing to get himself back up on his feet he said quietly, "I'm f-fine...I-I need...only need a chime, just a...chime..." Arya stayed by her master, not caring if he only needed a chime or a bell, her place way by his side. "How many times must I lose myself in front of strangers!? I can't keep doing this!" Weakly he repeated to himself that he was fine as he stood up. A faint laugh escapes him, "Y-you said I'm an adult? Yet here I am too foolish to give up on the past...some father figure I am, right? Can't even talk about the past without acting like this!" Never did he let her see his face as he continued walking forward.

"I may say I am an Animator but that doesn't meant I haven't considered going into other discipline, but I think what you're asking is why I delved into magic...it is a cruel game we play Cassia, as life is but a game...I cared very dearly for a girl, only to have her taken away...so instead of moving fo-...forward I w-walked back...I-...want her back, but...that is...that is...impossible." The way he suddenly had that hesitating thing in his voice, was so very unlike the person she saw earlier. His voice was emotional, one of the most in her short time of reality. Suddenly, he fell down, Arya kneeling down besides Kaik, looking sad, which was strangely refreshing compared to the neutral expression she had.

She didn't really know what to say. All would probably come out of her mouth was sorry for saying that, and probably leaving him after, which seemed..inadequate towards the situation. “Y-you said I'm an adult? Yet here I am too foolish to give up on the past...some father figure I am, right? Can't even talk about the past without acting like this!" She looked down slightly as she walked, thinking quickly. “Well.. You should keep some of the past, right?” She didn't even know if that was comforting, because in the past, when she tried to comfort, it only gave more hurt. “It makes you what you are, and if you forgot all of it, it would be pretty bland…” Her voice was cautious, trying to be careful with her words but how could she when she didn't know what words worked well?

When she was at the doorstep of her parents, she felt bitter to whoever did so to her, and she supposed that gave her a small bit of what Kaik felt, though it was much more than hers. She had learnt to just get along with her life and not dwell in the past. “And it’s natural to feel sad, angry. We are human,” “And what makes us. Without emotion, we might as well be machines. Don’t beat yourself up for it. Time eventually heals everything..” That’s what adults said, right? Some words that sounded smart, and kind of wise? “And I felt it before, I guess. Bitter towards some people." She didn't want to say more.
