Appearance
.
For those accustomed to seeing members of the Akalak race, Isley's appearance might come as a surprise. This is due to his overall stature, which pales in comparison to the average member of his species. Amounting to five foot, nine inches, Isley is the definition of a dwarf in the context of his people. Despite this fact, the sum of his features match that which are typical of an Akalak. His complexion is an incredibly deep crimson, so dark that it is often mistaken for ebony. His ears are slightly elongated; with his left ear characterized by a number of piercings.
Cascading down his back are numerous dreadlocks which have been grown for many years. They are neatly maintained, ebony in hue, and are quite thick. His eyes, dual pools of gold, give him an almost menacing look. Typically speaking, Isley can be seen wearing his suit of leather armor, coupled with his cloak. His sword and Lakan are always worn upon his belt, with his buckler always worn upon his left forearm.

Concept
.
Since the moment of his birth, life has been nothing but a challenge for the young Akalak. As opposed to the other members of his species, Isley was small, frail, and sickly upon entering the world. Many thought that his life would be incredibly short; for if he did not pass in the night, surely he would perish due to his diminished stature. However, despite how many saw him, Isley shook off the sickness of his infancy and began to claw his way through each and every challenge thrown his way. To this day, Isley is characterized by an undying determination. Regardless of how large or seemingly impossible a task may sound, he will gladly take it on and claw his way to victory. What's more, when confronted with his own weakness, Isley has a drive to convert his shortcomings into new strengths; or to eliminate them altogether.
When interacting with others, Isley is a polite, well-spoken individual. While he is leagues away from being a master of rhetoric, his mother instilled in him values centered around tact and respect. Suffice it to say, Isley will demonstrate respect and common courtesy to anyone; so long as it is reciprocated. Around friends, Isley is a jovial individual. He loves a good story and sharing laughs with friends over a pint. Furthermore, he is a loyal individual; especially to friends, comrades, and employers. Once his word is given to an individual, Isley will make sure to keep his promises no matter what. He will also risk life and limb in the defense of those he cares for, even if the odds are stacked heavily against him.
Of course, on the opposite side of the coin is Rigard: the other soul residing within him.
Rigard is an inverse to Isley in almost every way. Whilst in control of the body, he is a noticeably cold individual with a mind for self-gain and self-preservation. Rigard cares very little for the wellbeing of others, but will gladly lie, cheat, or use honied words to get ahead. Even outside of the field of battle, Rigard is the definition of ruthless; having no qualms about cutting down men, women, or children if it suits his purposes. For this reason, the time that Rigard is in control over the body is during select times; for unleashing him at random would cause more harm than good.
.
If the sum of Isley's person could be uttered into a single phrase, it would be: "True Grit".

History
.
'Twas during one of the first days of Summer that Isley entered the world; albeit months sooner than anticipated. Sleighted to be born during the middle of the following Fall, Isley's premature arrival was the cause for alarm and concern...for it caused a number of complications in the newborn's life. He was frail and sickly, barely strong enough to nurse from his mother...and above all else, Isley was tiny! In fact, he was so small that he could fit in the palm of his sire's hand. Although the healers expected that Isley would perish before his first birthday, his parents never gave up hope that their only son would survive. They prayed unceasingly to their gods and hoped for a miracle. Apparently...someone was listening...for Isley survived long past what the healers anticipated; beginning to soon grow and strengthen. By the time of his first birthday, he was fully healthy, but a single fact set him apart from the whole of the Akalak race.
Isley never grew any larger. In fact, his size paled in comparison to wha was considered normal!
Regardless, his parents gave him a wonderful childhood and showered him with their love. His mother, a Konti, filled his mind with the stories of her homeland and instilled in him tact and other valuable behaviors. His father, a proud Akalak, reared him in the ways of their people and introduced him to the worship of Wysar and Priskil. When the time came for Isley to begin his education alongside his peers, Isley was ignorant to the cruelty of children. Due to being a head shorter than the shortest child his age, he became the subject of ridicule and bullying. However, that did not deter him from doing his absolute best during every lesson. With the encouragement of his parents behind him, Isley began striving for success no matter what the challenge. Of course, around age ten, all the bullying caused a new face to rear its ugly head.
Like all Akalak, there were two sides of the coin which make up their soul; and Isley's "Dark Side" had finally been born. In an instant, Rigard took over and tackled one of the children to the ground, pummeling him relentlessly and ultimately biting off a chunk of the boy's ear. Despite getting in a world of trouble, and earning the nickname "Ear Biter", Isley was never again harassed by his peers again. As time moved ever forward, it became apparent that Isley's size was not the only consequence of his birth. The lessons and challenges undertaken by he and his peers began to increase in difficult; as they were designed to utilized the phenomenal strength of the Akalak race. However, for Isley, there was no impressive strength. Sure, he could outlift a mere human of comparable age, but his peers far outlifted him. This began to pose a serious problem upon the completion of his training, but Isley clawed his way through them; one at a time. At long last, he then reached age fifteen and undertook his Rite of Passage alongside his peers...
Together, they felled the Glassbeak; with Isley claiming the killing blow!
Now that the opportunity presented itself to choose a path, Isley decided to continue along the Path of a Warrior. Despite his shortcomings, he was fully dedicated to the task of becoming a full-fledged Akalak. To this end, he began to study at the feet of various warriors and soon came to an amazing realization. What he lacked in size and raw power, he could make up for in speed! Ultimately coming to specialize in swordplay, Isley earned the moniker "Quick Sword" by his fellows for how swiftly he employed his weapon. For fifteen years, Isley began the process of converting his "handicaps" into strengths; then ultimately reached the age of adulthood. Following the forging of his Lakan, he promptly undertook his final Rite of Passage...and succeeded.
Now a fully recognized member of the Akalak community, Isley did what was expected of him: starting the search for a mate. To this end, he took a voyage to the Konti Isley alongside his immediate kin. There, he priefly got to know his extended family on his mother's side whilst "playing the field". However, while he made many friends during the trip, Isley did not return to Cyphrus with a bride. Being that there was plenty of time, he did not despair; but instead soldiered forwad. He ventured up the Kabrin Road to Kenash, hoping that a change of surrounding swould also bring about that which he sought. There, he works to this day as a Sellsword; at the employ of whomever dangles a sufficient sum of coin before his eyes.

Devorah's Song is the name bestowed upon the Bastard Sword owned by Isley Vey'rd. Once owned and proudly worn by his sire, the sword was passed down upon Isley's triumphant completion of his final Rite of Passage. Wrought from the finest steel, Devorah's Song holds an exceptional edge and has no signs of rust; due to the care shown to the weapon by Isley's father. It's name is in honor of Isley's mother, Devorah, whose "angelic voice" was amongst the countless qualities which captivated his father.
