Hissing almost as the cool met the hot sands below. Small, gentle rivulets of water danced across his skin, a loud cry of life from his form - whilst the rest of his clutch remained silent to the world. A miracle in some regards that he had been spared unlike the rest of his siblings. It was not long after, that his birth mother - a nameless one - left once more to answer the nomadic call of his kind. Not that it stunted him in any way. To him, those few who lived within the nest were his family - even if he was not directly related to them. Everyone was a cousin, an uncle, an aunt and so on within his mindset. In return he was treated the same, fostered in and raised by the elders within the home he grew to know as the desert.
To begin with, Zydrunas was kept ignorant of his heritage and was wrapped up within a veil of dishonesty as to why he was the way he was. Kept out of sight when the 'untrusted' were around, he spent many a year within his snake form, even when he finally managed to learn to take on the form of a Dhani in late 439 AV. It could simply be described as a level of paranoia that grew into some state of normality to simply never trust another completely. Outsiders were a potential danger that could only be controlled by keeping them unknowing. Because of this he often stuck to his older, more familiar form- believing that it allowed him to blend in more easily with his surroundings and remain hidden. It was also one he chose to maintain whilst hunting, the improved senses aiding in these ventures.
However, as he grew older, he was told of his actual identity by his elders. He was a Freshwater Iyvess, one of the few in the world who lived to this day, and kept in secrecy due to the disdain received from the other Dhani - in particular, those of Falydar. Taught about his kind, he felt the weight of responsibility fall upon him for many a thing - if not for his revealed duty as a rain dancer, then for the secrets he had to keep; as an Iyvess and as a recently initiated reimancer. Years past, and he continued to grow as a person, the compelling urge to turn his gaze out and explore the arid world around him. It was not long after his 97th year that he learned to take the form of a human. Free now and allowed to reveal himself to the world, he answered the calling to leave.
Much in keeping with the nomadic life style of the freshwater Iyvess, Zydrunas started his journey out of his nest and into the world beyond- though not without cautiously chosen words, to keep himself as secret and unknown as possible. To begin with, he kept his distance; viewing places of civilization with care and chose only to enter as a snake in many places, even after he managed to finally grasp his human form. Once he grew more confident with his newer, human form, he often stuck to it as much as possible . No one seemed to notice what he really was within this form, thus it proved well to hide his nature.
There was also always a deliberate avoidance of words that would bring out his sibilant speech; and as time progressed he grew more and more dishonest with those about him. Lies became a frequent occurrence, carefully crafted and placed phrases to create a false identity of who he really is - and forever seeking some form of security that he was safe. But that was not the only thing that possessed him, his fascination with water came into bloom - to know its nature completely and then use that same understanding to further his connection with his Goddess. And such things grew more when he finally stumbled upon the tales of green grass and long winding rivers that cut through it.
Once more he explored the edge of the desert, learning of the green plains that made it up and making frequent returns to the near city of Ahnatep as he attempted to understand this new land that was before him. His world had just gotten bigger, and it was upon the dawn of summer 514 AV that he heard the name of another city upon the lips of others, where the water comes crashing down, and a blue stretches out further than the eye can see - Riverfall.
Fall 514 AV: Zydrunas arrived in Riverfall, and immediately his mind looked for an answer to what was before him. The only reasonable one he could find when faced by the bold colours of the Akalak, the stretching Suvan Sea, and the rushing waters of the city was - "It is a dream. And I cannot wake up." Whilst there was much insistance that the city was indeed real, it was inevitably the thing that drove him away for normality. It was thus on the 60th of the season that he took a trade vessel northwards and continued his travelling - to Syliras.
Winter 514 AV: It was on the 19th that the Iyvess made land in the city. Cold, and surrounded by an alien environment - but now knowing he was faced with a level of normality, and that the strange 'dream' was behind him, Zydrunas sent himself forward once more. To the Knights.
