Summer 514 19th Day 13th Bell

The Bronze Woods….it was so quiet, Kreig didn’t like it when it was quiet. Kreig was part of a patrol sent out to check sightings of Yukmen within the area ‘ Ugly bastards’ Came the thought as Kreig recalled their images to his head. He’d came to learn much about Yukmen, having fought a horde of them with Ser Titus once. He’d learnt more on each subsequent patrol he went on with the knights and of course his Patron.

First thing he learned about the creatures was that they were practically everywhere in world, like weeds they sprouted from the earth and generally causing a ruckus whenever they do. He found himself watching the ground as he rode the horse provided for him, before him was his Patron as she rode her own horse. Evidently she didn’t find any trouble riding hers….The brawler found himself nearly falling off once or twice even as he held the reigns, his butt was getting sore too which certainly didn’t help matter. Still… his nerves were still frayed by the thought of Yukmen, which in truth it was only their nature that unnerved him….. Fighting ‘em and Killing ‘em were all good fun!

Are you doing alright, Kreig?” Came Sera Natasha’s concerned voice, yet she didn’t bother looking back as she could easily deduce her squires current feelings, at least when it came to riding a horse that is.

“Oh, quite alright Sera…quite alright” He said unconvincingly, he wasn’t trying to be in anycase and simply allowed his thoughts to roam back to the Yukmen. Yes, unnerving creatures they were…. The second thing he learned about them happened to come from his patron herself. They creatures were aggressive, they barely tolerate each other and hardly tolerate anyone else actually, no mercy for any humanoid they layed their eyes upon…. Ironically their very appearances were cruel mockeries of the humanoid races they happened to be emulating, only about a foot shorter, green , naked to an unsightly degree and literally looking like they were of the earth, with rocks and what not embedded into their skin.

Suddenly Kreig felt the painted horse he was riding on trotting over a small tree in the road, almost slipping off the thing and letting his arse hit the ground! But luckily for him he was able to regain his balance…. And again let his thoughts back to the Yukmen. Thinking of the most unnerving thing about them yet; they’re ability to learn. Yes, it was to be feared more than their endless aggression and mindless cruelty. A yukmen ability to learn was simply frightening, they couldn’t be called sentient, fully thinking and what not; in fact they can be quite stupid, but their ability to learn and adapt was far more than any humanoid…. If it sees someone doing something, it could learn it just like that. If someone were to hit a yukmen in the knee to break its bones and immobilize, another who saw it would attempt it and succeed with unerring accuracy and other yukmans would learn it as well…. If one learned how to use weapons efficiently than the rest of them would quickly learn too.

“Shyke upon the earth we walk, they are…” Kreig muttered beneath his breath, wishing he had his armor with him, but alas the weather was too hot for his breastplate and grieves. He only had his studded gauntlets to protect his fists. His own patron was wearing a lighter set of armor, Kreig could have worn leather armor as well but he reasoned that against a Yukmen they wouldn’t have made a slight difference…. Yes, there were a number of unnerving things about yukmen. But for once he did not dwell on them at the moment as he now focused on the silence of the forest.

Kreig was no woodsman, he couldn’t tell you what animal belonged to what family, what was the name of the plants and trees nor what was the best route or shortcut through them. But he did have eyes and ears, and they said the same thing; something was definitely wrong. His ears and eyes could hear and see mostly nothing, not the chirping of the birds or the birds themselves, not the rustling of foliage and what it did hear and see was very unpleasing; the horses were restless, they could sense the danger lurking. Kreig couldn’t get his horse to calm as it fidgeted, trying to turn back to Syliras. Sera Natasha didn’t have that difficulty as she seemed to whisper calming words into her horse whilst also keeping it straight.

Be prepared Kreig, it seems danger is afoot

“Really? I could hardly tell” He muttered dryly, wondering if his Patron thought he was as dumb as he looked sometimes. But he kept his eyes open, that he did, his ears were listening too…waiting for the Yukmen to make themselves known. In the meantime they had kept moving forward, they knew there was a definite presence of something…. Even if there was a scant chance it wasn’t Yukmen they would still be careful, danger is danger after all.

Then suddenly they appeared, like a band of bandits coming out of the woods the Yukmen took to the road with a loud shout and startled the horses, and Kreig too, half to death as the Horses jumped back on two legs. Kreig and Natasha held on for dear life as to not fall off as their horses panicked, Natasha pulled on the reigns as her horse stood on all fours again, forcing it not to run but Kreig was not so lucky as his horse sped off with him on it “PEEEEEEEETCH MEEEEE” He shouted as he held on to dear life, practically hugging the horse as it ran straight through the yukmen, one of them having the misfortune of being caught underfoot and having its skull crushed beneath one of its hooves.

“SHYKE SHYKE SHYKE” The brawler’s eyes were closed as the horse ran through the forest, right off the path. Luck was definitely not on the brawler’s side, as he had no grasp of control over the damnable creature and to his horror he felt himself slipping off “OH SHYKE, NO! BY THE GODS I WILL NOT…” and thus he fell off the horse, into a thick bundle of bushes that cushioned his fall but did nothing to stop him from feeling out of breath and bruised from the whole thing.

Yuk!

Oh like I don’t have enough problems already!

[Bronze Woods] Unnerving Creatures

Kreig groaned as he slowly picked himself up, the voices of the Yukmen assaulting his ears. All in all, despite the bruising, he was lucky enough to land where he did ‘Don’t think I’d be awake if I landed anywhere different’ He thought groggily, trying to quickly get his bearings before the inevitable battle occurs. He looked to his side for his longsword and was glad to see that it still hanged at his waist

Once his mind awoke proper, he could hear that the wretched sounds of the Yukmen were a bit more distant than he previously thought and slowly they were getting louder ‘looks like I’ll be safe for the moment, best make sure I stay that way’ He thought as he unsheathed his blade. Though a different problem made itself known as his eyes darted around the place…. The thick foliage of the forest made it difficult to ascertain which direction he’d been thrown in, in fact with how groggy he was from the incident it was downright impossible.

“Lovely… and I can’t hear any sounds of combat. Which means I’ve crossed enough distance that I’m effectively lost…” The sound of feet stomping on foliage and the guttural sounds of the Yukman grew louder “…and my only company is the things that are trying to kill me, fate just never gives me a break, does it?” He sighed as he went to a combat stance, ready to face the monstrosities that were no doubt coming for him, or perhaps investigating what the petch that noise was, which for Kreig meant pretty much the same thing was at the moment.

At the sound of their voices and unsubtle movement, Kreig knew from which direction the beings were coming form and adjusted himself accordingly. HE winced slightly a she could smell their stench as well, which told him in a way that he was facing the right direction. True enough, from beneath the shadows of the trees he could the unmistakable naked form of the Yukman, two in fact, both male and unfortunately armed.

Kreig couldn’t help but grin at that, the situation just seemed to get worse and worse yet now the prospect of a fight dawned on Kreig ‘ Ye lads might offer me a proper fight indeed’ Kreig thought. Their weapons of choice were interesting; one of the yukmen held a short sword in hand, chipped , worn and stained with dry blood. The other had a heavy tree branch for a club, with any smaller branches broken off as not to be a hindrance.

Well, this spelled a whole lot of bad news…’ A yukman with weapons were a bad thing, very bad, Yukman learned quickly and , as is the case hear, if they saw someone using a weapon than they would learn it in an instant and use that weapon themselves….if so than all the yukmen he might encounter could be armed, each as much a bastard as the other. With a high pitched ‘YUK’, the creature with the club charged forward and brought the weapon swinging in its furious charge. Kreig ducked his head as the Yukman went past, but immediately brought up the flat of his blade as the second struck with its sword ‘ Shyke, little bastards has some strength behind him’ Kreig thought as he grabbed its wrist and pulled it back and behind him, pushing the Yukman into the direction where its kin stood.

Clubby, as the clubbed yukmen would henceforth be known, didn’t waste its time as it went for Kreig once more. Its weapon raised and subsequently brought down with furious might behind it, Kreig had no hope of blocking that with his sword so he stepped to the side but then found himself blocking Shorty, the Yukman with the short sword, as it swiped at him. Kreig found himself grinning, the savage creatures showed remarkable teamwork and equally remarkable skill with their weapons , it was quite enjoyable.

Though not so enjoyable as he was suddenly struck in the side by Clubby, flung to the side and dropping his longsword with a grunt. Kreig winced as he tried to move, a rib or three were definitely broken ‘ I guess another visit to the healer was inevitable’ He was sure they’d be glad to see him, bruised, battered and bloody all over. He would have sighed if he didn’t look up and saw Clubby standing all over him, ready to end Kreig’s like as if snuffing out the light of a candle, but then Clubby let out a high-pitched whine, unceremoniously dropping its club behind it as its hands suddenly went to cover its groin as it stepped back. Kreig’s foot hanged in the air whilst a grin that said ‘ Yeah, that was definitely fun’ made its way to Kreig’s facial features.

Kreig the squire would have to take a break for now, whilst Kreig the brawler was definitely going to petch these bastards up. Adrenaline pumped itself through Kreig’s veins whilst time seemed to slow itself around him as he scurried to get up, performed a shoving Kick at Clubby’s hands and broke its fingers, perhaps adding unwanted pressure to the creatures aching member as it tripped over its own club. Kreig grabbed the makeshift club from the ground, then swung it ferociously at Shorty who tried to lunge at him, but made itself unintentionally known is it appeared in the corner of Kreig’s eyes, catching him square in the chest and sending him sprawling in a manner similar to how Kreig was but ticks ago.

Kreig grinned maliciously as he stomped upon Clubby’s neck twice, sniffing the creatures life and then quickly made his way to Shorty, who scampered around trying to breath, its hands clutching its chest only for his hands to jerk and twitch as Kreig bashed it in the head repeatedly till its skull cracked and its brains were nothing but goo mixed with blood and skull fragments. Some of that blood made its way to Kreig’s clothing, face and arms. He chuckled at the delight he felt from beating the two creatures as he made his way to his sword, but the adrenaline quickly ended much like the battle and soon Kreig winced as the pain in his left side demanded to be heard.

“Shyke… that was fun” He said through a pained breath as he knelt down to pick up his long sword, wiping of the dust and grime than sheathed it once more. He moved towards the club and rusty short sword , picking them up as well since he knew better to leave them around if there were more of them coming. The short sword was hanging from a one of the loops of his weapons harness, whilst the club he decided to use a makeshift walking stick since walking with broken ribs proved to be a pain....

A question quickly arose inKreig’s head, however, as he remembered one of his dilemmas “Petch…where the Shyke I’m I supposed to go?” And in the distance, the sound of Yukman could faintly be heard and Kreig got the answer he needed….

“Anywhere but here….”
