My Words | Your Words | My Thoughts

Once he thought he'd done about enough, he tightened his jaw back into place.. although all of the other spikes and aesthetic features remained where they were. He supposed he'd be living with them for a while. Annoyingly, though, the thing didn't seem very intimidated by the show. If anything, once again, it began imitating what he'd done mere moments ago. Pfft. I wonder if this thing is a distant relative of the parrot. It certainly acts like it is. Although, a reptile being related to a bird.. outrageous. It still didn't discourage the evidence slowly piling up against this arm-less, leg-less creature that more or less had a head with a tail grafted to its neck-stump. This thing, that would almost be comical to watch, if not for all the annoying hissing noises that it kept making, and those weird fangs that it possessed but never even bothered to use.

Perhaps they were like a bee-sting. They could only be used and then the thing would die. Or maybe, they weren't even useful. They were just there for show - to make it look more intimidating than it actually was. Which was a toothless, limbless lizard with little use other than for amusement and being locked inside a metal cage to be laughed at. Or at least, that was what he thought, before it reared back and prepared itself.. but then, it changed. Not really in the same way as he did, because admittedly, he could change into whatever shape he wished. However, this thing could definitely change. Its arms began to push out of its tail - first lumpy and useless, but then it began to tighten and develop into actual fingers and hands. Along with that, the rest of its upper body began shifting.. growing shoulders, a chest.. an actual torso. It didn't change its head, oddly.. and when it hissed, it just kept on making those stupid hissing noises.

But it certainly looked a little more human than it did before. If anything, the crude parody just enraged and.. utterly disgusted the Pycon. After all, he'd seen things that could change their bodies.. like the Kelvics. Things that he weren't really sure if they were simply animals that could take on human forms, or humans that could take on animal forms. Eventually, he came to accept them as simple half-humans, like most of the other humans did. However this... this wasn't even human. Not even remotely human. This was just some Valterrian monstrosity that was the result of a failed experiment.. a terrible mutation.. heck, he'd settle for a crime against life. Something that by all rights, shouldn't exist. He didn't know whether it'd be more humane to just put it out of its misery, or leave it alive so that future generations could gawk at it and see the wonders that had become of their lives thanks to the Valterrian.

Funnily enough.. the thing took on what looked to be a fighting stance. Although that couldn't possibly be right.. because that would mean this thing was sentient. Or at least, somewhat intellectual, beyond that of a simple beast. Perhaps it had learned it somewhere, and was imitating what it'd seen before.. he couldn't be sure. But he knew that this thing was really starting to get on his nerves. "God, you are really one disgusting piece of shyke." Oh well. He soon dropped down to all-fours, braced himself.. and broke into a full sprint for the thing. If he could get it with all of his weight, he could probably stun it, or knock it over if he managed to get a decent attack on its midsection or on its new torso. "Now, I'm getting tired of this shyke. Are you going to surrender, or am I going to have to kick you in the chin with my tail again, huh?" For some reason, he was pretty confident that he'd already know the answer to his own question.

[Bronze Woods] Showing Off.

Postby Suresslynn on August 4th, 2014, 2:52 am

Suresslynn gave the squirrel a rather flat look as he started insulting her, then hissed angrily. She was getting a little irritated at this creatures attitude, and was getting tired of this fight her own self. As he charged, she simply swerved out of the way, thinking about how to end the fight, preferably without killing the squirrel that she still wanted to learn more about. However, before she could come to any kind of decision regarding the fight, a small group of wild boars ran into the middle of the two. "What the..." she hissed, swerving around a boar, just as she noticed one heading for the squirrel. Lunging forward, she extended her fangs and caught the pig just as it was about to reach the squirrel. Sinking her fangs into the struggling pig, Suresslynn held on just long enough to make sure the pig died, then dropped it and turned to face the other pigs.

"If this is the worst of it, fine. If not...this situation could quickly grow untenable if there's a group of predators behind them." she said, then sighed and shook her head with an annoyed sigh. "And you still can't speak snake. So I'm just wasting my time talking to you right now." she said, throwing her hands up in exasperation before swerving to evade another boar as it ran past. As they ran past, she realized it was also possible they were in some kind of migration path for these animals, or it was just as likely hunters were pushing them forward. Either way, the Dhani had no interest in confronting a predator at that particular moment. But at the same time, she couldn't abandon the squirrel. Her curiosity about him still wasn't satisfied, and besides, he might be useful it did come down to a fight. "How am I going to persuade you to run." she said, her tone slightly exasperated.

My Words | Your Words | My Thoughts

He was about ready to just finish up - give a good few whacks to the thing and then leave it at that. Heck, if the fight didn't end here.. he was about ready to make a quick run back to the castle with Xarex and return when he could to finish the thing off. However.. just as he thought things weren't getting crazy enough already, with a lunatic monster trying to attack him.. but in came the reserves. A whole family of wild boars, charging straight through the small clearing. Now, this could be bad. On the one hand, the boars could be a bit of an issue by themselves, given their massive size and strength compared to the considerably smaller Pycon. On the other hand, they could be running away from an essentially larger and much more dangerous creature having an afternoon snack. Either way - regardless of the fact that unlike the monster before him, he was completely inedible - he didn't want to get caught in that cross-fire.

First thoughts - climb a tree. He didn't know if the snake-thing would be able to climb trees but he sincerely doubted it, given the evident lacking limbs. Boars would be the same. All he'd need to do was climb a tree, then he could make his way straight back through them to the outskirts of Syliras, and return later to take care of the.. thing. No sooner had the plan been cemented in his mind, than a complication arose - his mount, Xarex, charging through the undergrowth and literally launching himself at the nearest boar. The thing squealed in moderate pain but didn't seem to be remotely wounded other than some minor bleeding teeth marks on its hindquarters. Oh shyke. There'd be no leaving the dog to deal with these things - not to mention the snake-monster.

Second thoughts - save Xarex. So concentrated on his beloved mount, he barely noticed his own problems rising fast - a boar heading straight for his side. It shouldn't have gotten as close as it was - his reflexes would have propelled him out of the way. But not this time. This time, it was too close.. coming too fast.. even then, he knew that he wouldn't be able to make it out of its path in time, even if he leapt with all of his strength. Of course, in such dire circumstances, the most unlikely of solutions would rise. And so they did. The monster, whom he had originally thought to be nothing more than a feral creature of low intelligence, if any sentience at all remained in its body.. refused to attack the squirrel with deadly force, and yet seemed to have little hesitation in using it against those that would do him harm. What in the...

There'd be time to think and answer such confounding questions running through his mind later. After he'd dealt with the boar, and saved his beloved mount. Xarex, ever-vigilant, refused to back down even when the pig turned its head and practically span on the poor puppy in an attempt to throw it aside. The Sykanis was lucky to get away with just a graze on his side - but that was all the time Archailist needed for a full-out sprint for the pig, using all four of his paws to his advantage; quickly leaning back to rise to two, before jumping into the air and swinging his tail back down to shift his weight distribution. Yep, that tail had more uses that just smacking things around.. it also allowed the squirrel to realign himself in mid-air flight, just in time to bring both feet up for the perfect two-footed kick into the boars side.

With the momentum he'd built up through the run, focused solely into the kick.. it wasn't exactly deadly or significantly damaging, but it did cause a much louder squeal than the earlier attack by the dog. Finally, attention was brought off Xarex... now he could come up with an actual plan. "You! Uhm.. whatever you are! With scales! We need to get out of here!" He didn't know why, but he didn't feel like it'd be good to stick around while whatever had caused the boar to flee came straight their way. "I don't know if we can head for the gates of the city but I suppose there's no harm in trying..."

[Bronze Woods] Showing Off.

Postby Suresslynn on August 5th, 2014, 2:44 am

Suresslynn watched as the squirrel took out the boar that had been fighting with his dog with a solid sounding two footed kick the head. "My my, pretty impressive for such a small creature." she said, before nodding as he said they should leave. However, she certainly couldn't head for the gates without her horse. Or at least her saddlebags. But what really had her attention was the odd smell approaching from the same direction as the boars. "Leaving might be a good idea..." she hissed as she started to turn away from the boars. However, before she could leave, a large snake-like creature with fur and wings and a triple row of fangs burst from the foliage. This newest creature was about six feet long and very, very hostile judging from all the noise it was making at them.

"Well, well...this looks like a lot more fun than I was hoping for today..." she said, her tone slightly irritated, though she doubted her companion would notice, since the tone of one hiss probably sounded much like another to creatures that had no ear for the language of serpents. Crouching low, she tried to think of how to best fight the creature, and only one idea occurred to her. Having the squirrel distract this new enemy, and once it turned its back, she could move in and sink her fangs into it, poisoning it and ending its life. Naturally though, this had a lot of drawbacks, the first being that she had no idea if this thing was susceptible to her venom, the second being the fact that she had no way at all to communicate this plan to her companion, and then of course he might not go for it even if he did somehow find out about her plan.

"Perfect, just perfect..." she said, slithering around the creature, moving away from her squirrel companion. If nothing else, the creature would likely go after only one of them at once, and would probably have to get close to do it. Or at least, that's what she thought before it made a sort of choking sound a spit of glob of some sort of goo at her. Dodging the venomous looking puke ball, Suresslynn hissed irritably at the creature. "Okay, that's just rude." the Dhani hissed, keeping as low to the ground as she could.

My Words | Your Words | My Thoughts

The boars were bad enough. Each one several times larger than the squirrel, with a lot more strength and power behind them than he had. A whole family of them, jumping out in a surprise attack, throwing him off his guard in the process. That sounded like something he'd be lucky to escape from. But then, as the wild boars fled into the tree-line again, the real problem appeared. And the squirrel had to hold in a heavy groan, as well. "Oh petch." The last thing he needed were these. He had a snake-monster, boars, and now... whatever this was. He needed to get outside less.. the city was a bit more boring but it didn't have such utterly ridiculous monsters snaking about inside.

At first glance, the thing looked very much like it could be of some strange relation to the snake-abomination-thing that he'd been having so much trouble with before. It had scales and everything.. although it was quite a bit smaller. And it had limbs. And it had wings.. now that was a very interesting development. Frankly, he didn't have a back-up plan when it came down to creatures with wings and lots and lots of teeth. And claws. Especially the creatures that put all of these things to their full advantage, like this. Xarex barked over and over at it, but the thing struck for the snake first. Good, it's distracted. Now.. how to hit it. The thing was still in the air, flapping its wings about.. and he was too small to reach it. The snake-thing could, but it was occupied.

As the little beast went about spitting what looked to be a mixture of venom and vomit at the snake, he scampered around the floor in an attempt to find something of use. Create some kind of plan. His options were severely limited and given how the snake-thing had essentially saved his life.. he felt like h needed to return the favour, some way. Can't climb the trees, too slow. Can't jump, too small. Maybe find a rock and jump off it? That plan could work. Suddenly he had purpose and darted straight towards the nearest large stone to use it as an essential stepping stone on his way to catching the little lizard-thing while in mid-air... but before he could even get off the ground, stumbled to a stop as the rock shifted around beneath him unexpectedly. It's loose! Now he'd have to come up with a whole new plan.

Or... it's loose. Suddenly, the rock was picked up in both of his paws, swung twice in a tight circle to build up some speed.. before sent flying through the air, straight for the Balicani. "CATCH!" It wasn't a big rock.. well, it was for the Pycon. But it'd do for now. If he could find several more, lure it down towards the ground.. he'd be able to give it a good kicking. At least, that was the new plan. He had no clue what the snake was planning to do. Perhaps crawl into a hole until he was finished saving her life.

[Bronze Woods] Showing Off.

Postby Suresslynn on August 5th, 2014, 5:33 pm

Suresslynn was definitely occupied, since for whatever reason, rather than attack her, the lizard thing kept spitting at her and she was fairly certain that whatever it was spitting was either acidic or venemous. Either way, the Dhani had no interest in touching it or anything touched by it. As she dodged the vomit globs, the snake noticed the squirrel try to launch himself from a rock only to stumble from a rock as it shifted under him. Suresslynn was starting wonder if he'd be of any help at all with his small size when the squirrel picked up the rock and lobbed it at the creature they were fighting. Though the flying reptile dodged the rock, it did turn its attention to the squirrel, giving the Dhani the opportunity she'd been waiting for.

As the creature turned away from her, Suresslynn surged forward, opening her mouth as wide as she could and attempting to bite into the creature and poison it with her venom. But the thing had quicker reactions than she expected, and it avoided her bite and tried its best to return the favor by trying to bite her. The Dhani swerved out of the range of its bite, but now she was too close to something with that many teeth for her liking. Swinging a right hook at the creature, she managed to hit it hard enough that it backed off a bit, giving her room to swerve away from it. The problem was, now they were right back were they had started, and her with aching knuckles to boot. She was starting to regret having come to the woods that day.

My Words | Your Words | My Thoughts

He could see that this battle was a futile one - even when they worked side-by-side. If anything, every second they spent near to this nimble monster was cheating death itself. With the thing in the air, there was nothing the squirrel could really do, given the fact that it could quite easily dodge rocks.. and he was neither skilled in bows or blow-guns, nor had one available to use. Which left one option - run. Thankfully Xarex seemed to be competent enough to come when shouted to, and that was enough for the squirrel. As the snake-thing attacked the beast and ended up narrowly avoiding losing a fist to the thing, he slid both feet into his stirrups and took up the reins with a sharp crack - sending the dog into a jolting run. He wasn't planning on waiting around for the snake to get itself killed at the hands of the creature, after all. He'd throw a warning back on the way, however - which seemed to spark the brief interest of the creature, for better or for worse.

"There's no point! We need to get out of here, before it takes a limb off!" He waved his paw to try and get her attention - but unfortunately, it didn't get the attention of the creature he wanted. The thing seemed to pull higher, with its wings flapping manically to keep its sinuous body off the ground.. before suddenly dive-bombing straight over Suresslynn's head and coming straight for Arch. His reactions were too slow for the blur of scales.. even as he tried to kick the dog into motion, his arm was in the air. His mind knew what was happening before the rest of his body did, and pain screamed down through the stump of clay where his arm had once been. Serrated teeth cut through the clay like.. well, soft clay, but once it had the limb in its mouth, it thankfully spat it out almost immediately. Pycons didn't taste very good, after all.

Arch was.. nearly paralyzed with pain. Humans and other creatures had nerves that felt the pain.. they felt it in a very specific area, when it happened to them. But for a Pycon.. their entire body was everything they had. And so there was pain.. everywhere. It shot through his chest, through both legs, his tail.. but most of all, in his nexus. It burned as though it'd been set on fire. With the Balicani moving away from its not-so-tasty meal, Arch was left to tumble off Xarex and straight onto the ground.. barely within reach of the arm. It sat as little more than a lump of clay now, barely shaped like an arm.. teeth-marks still pocked its outer rim and it seemed to be covered in some sickly stuff, likely what had been shot repeatedly at the snake-thing moments ago. He didn't care for it. As long as he got his arm back.

No.. just a little farther. Please.. His arm reached as far as it could but it just wasn't enough.. he could even feel his fingers grazing the edge but with his body still burning in every inch, he couldn't build up the needed concentration to begin manipulating the clay. He could feel it, just.. on the edge of his mind.. and then.. Wait. Yes.. yes.. He could have wept with joy as his paw closed around a single finger, and dragged it closer to his body. Almost immediately, it fused into place. While the pain was still there.. it seemed a little duller than before, at least. That was far.. far too close.

Now that his mind was a little more open to the outside world, he could feel Xarex nudging his side and whining softly in confusion. He probably should have paid more attention to the dog.. little doubt that given the chance, the thing would try to take the dog for a little snack. Both of his paws.. although his arms felt a little stiffer than before.. wrapped quickly around the dogs neck in a comforting hug, before he eased himself back onto the dogs back with grunt of effort. He needed to go home.. eat clay.. rest. Something. Damn, he hurt. "I can't hang around any more.. we need to go, NOW!" Once again, he jerked at the dogs reins and nudged his sides, bringing the dog up to a swift run in the process.

[Bronze Woods] Showing Off.

Postby Suresslynn on August 6th, 2014, 3:38 am

Suresslynn was tired of this thing, not to mention the ache in her knuckles and the fatigue spreading through her body. She was not used to this climate and it was taking its toll on her, making her more tired than she preferred. When the Squirrel said they should abandon the fight, she hissed an agreement without turning to face him, then letting out a startled hiss as the creature flew over her head and attacked the squirrel. "Ah, petch." she said, watching helplessly as the lizard took of the squirrels arm. When the creature spit out the squirrels arm and turned away in disgust, Suresslynn started slithering toward the fallen mammal, only to watch in surprise as he reattached his arm and climbed back on his dog. "Well, that's...new." she hissed quietly, before picking up as the creatures came back into view, this time seemingly going for the dog.

"Yeah, you'd best get out of here. I'll track you down later." she hissed, once again forgetting that the squirrel couldn't understand her. Picking up a rock, she threw it at the creature, who dodged the rock and turned to face her as the squirrel took off on his dog. Letting out an angry, aggressive hiss, she waited for a moment as the creature flew towards her to give the squirrel time to escape, then turned and bailed on the fight. Fortunately, she still had one last good burst of speed in her, and it carried her away from the creature. Or at least, she thought it would before the blasted thing took a bite at her tail and stripped away the top portion of her scales.

Letting out a hissing cry of pure pain, Suresslynn swerved away from the creature and into the forest, putting as many things as she could between her and the creature while she shifted back into snake form. The stinging sensation in her tail didn't recede, but she was smaller and was able to hide from the creature in a hole in the ground. After a while she smelled it leave and started making her way back to her horse, glad the creature was gone. While the snake enjoyed pain, she didn't particularly enjoying the notion of being eaten, and she was more than happy to leave that part of the woods. When she finally got back to her horse, she changed back into human form and checked her legs. The bite marks from the creature appeared on her left leg, and definitely stung when she touched, them. After doing that a few times for the sheer enjoyment of it, she performed what rudimentary treatment for the wound that she knew, then got dressed again and mounted her horse, setting off the city.

My Words | Your Words | My Thoughts

This time, there was no waiting. No slowing down. He had an obligation to save the citizens of Syliras and the innocent, but he didn't know - truly - what that thing was, that had first attacked him and then saved his life later. As much as he knew he couldn't risk going back there, because he couldn't take that thing on and even attempting it could get his head removed from his shoulders in a matter of ticks.. he still felt like a coward for deserting it in the heat of the battle. The best he could truly do was wish it the best of luck and promise to himself that he would take down one of those beasts in the future, in its name. Whatever its name was. If it even had a name in the first place, considering he wasn't really sure if it understood language or anything of the like. All it'd done is hiss in odd tones at him, after all.

For now, a better use of his time would be to properly guide Xarex. Although even as he concentrated with all his strength on the task at hand, his movements felt sluggish and any sudden movements caused yet more spikes of pain to lance through his body. Although he probably didn't look any different physically, he'd definitely taken the toll of the damage inflicted by that nimble little petcher.. when he got back to the Squire Dorms, he'd need a long wash and a bit of relaxation, if he could persuade Ser Iros to his tale. Considering how utterly outlandish it seemed. A creature with nothing but a head and tail, transforming.. fighting off a winged lizard with three rows of teeth.. it sounded like something concocted from the biggest pile of shyke the squirrel could find lying on the ground, in the hopes of escaping a bit more training in the Training Grounds and a bit of un-earned relaxation.

Well, he couldn't go back now. Xarex weaved between the trees nimbly, with Xarex only providing the occasional tug and squeeze here and there to keep the dog on the right path. He was only lucky that his mount had remained uninjured throughout the encounter.. otherwise he wouldn't have been able to escape, after all. "I think I've earned a nap.. and you've earned yourself a shyke-load of jerky." He patted the dog on the head while he ran - jumping swiftly over a crumpled, fallen log and jarring the squirrel back to his surroundings with the jolt through his entire body at once. And only then, did he notice.. there were noises coming from all around, echoing back and forth. They didn't sound like wings, thank goodness.. more like hooves.

Funnily enough, his path straight for the city had apparently coincided with a different rider, travelling in the same direction. The coincidences didn't stop there, though.. she seemed to be heading away from the creature he'd seen before. In little time at all, he pushed Xarex towards the girl and her horse with a loud shout, in the hopes that she'd hear him over the cascading hoof-falls of her mount. "Excuse me, ma'am! Excuse me!" Hopefully he could drag her attention down for a moment, so that he could ask for help. Who knew.. perhaps she could help him go back and save the snake-thing. If she had any weapons on her. Heck, what'd be even better would be to ask for a ride back to the city.. he certainly needed it. Holding onto Xarex was about the limits of his endurance after everything he'd gone through.. and the pain.

Everywhere hurts.

[Bronze Woods] Showing Off.

Postby Suresslynn on August 6th, 2014, 4:08 pm

Suresslynn was worried about the squirrel, but she had no way of telling where it had ridden off too, or for that matter the where the creature that had attacked them was. Either way, she couldn't risk wandering around to look, not when she didn't know how common things like that were here. Spurring her horse on, the Dhani kept moving at a good clip through the woods, before stopping as she heard a voice call out to her. Looking around, she spotted the dog riding squirrel from before. "Oh, please don't tell me that flying lizard is chasing you? After I went to all that trouble to get it away from you and then lose it myself, I don't want to have to deal with it anymore." she said, dropping down off her horse so she could get closer to the squirrel.

Sitting down, the Dhani woman looked at the squirrel, more particularly at the arm he had reattached. "How's your arm? I can't say I've ever seen a squirrel put himself back together like that, but then I've never had one hit me in the jaw with its tail either. Either way though, you can't possibly be in good shape. Do you need a ride back to town? I can carry you, and probably your dog too, at least until we get back to the city." she said, with slight hissing noises on certain sounds as she spoke. "Oh, my name's Suresslynn, I'm a traveler who just got to town." she said, smiling and holding out her hand.
