There was much work ahead of Kaik if he had intended to meet his deadline with Cassia. He woke up early in the morning to begin work on the new doll. First his woodcarving kit was placed by his side on the ground, filled with an assortment of tools to which he was familiar with due to his Mother. A sense of excitement filled him as he gathered all the wood he had acquired into a pile near his tools. He could already see the image of “Iris” replace the pile of wood, Cassia’s choice of name seemed perfect for what he had in mind for the doll. The project would prove no trouble to Kaik afterall he was simply making a larger version of his wooden dolls.
Creating Iris was first started by creating it’s limbs. He began with the hands by using an axe to chop some wood into suitable sized pieces based on his own hands, enough for four hands in case he made a mistake. To create a functioning hand, he would have to replicate the joints in hands, to do so he cut the wood into three varying degrees of sizes. Using a hand drill he began turning the handle to create small holes through some pieces of the wood, then with some leftover cut rope from past creations he strung the pieces of the wood together to form fingers. The fingers were connected to the actual base of the hand thus completing one part of the project. In order to make the hands more human, he would have to smooth them using a file, though he ended up creating a crack on the back of the hand.
In the middle of his work Arya and Lina waited patiently on the bed for whatever order their master had. Kaik was so engrossed in his works he had forgotten about the two, unlike in the past he was not alone now. With that in mind he called the two over to help him in his project.
Setting the completed hands aside Kaik began work for the arms of the doll. He cut four pieces of wood which would be connected to form two arms. Just like the hands he started to smooth out the wood, assisted by Arya who handed him the tools he asked for. Once the smoothing was done he begun making one end of the pieces to curve inward while the other end was made to be the shape of a ball, thus matching the ball-socket design of Arya and Lina. Using the drill holes were made through each ends of the pieces and then rope was strung through and connected with the hands with help from Lina due to her small size.
The next part was the feet, which proved more easier than the hands. Although he had to use his own feet as a reference he would not have to create jointes for the toes, all he had to do was make a gap between the toes and he would be done, it was not necessarily to go all out on the feet since it would be covered up anyways. The top of the feet had to be jointed so it was curved in the shape of a ball and then given a hole using the drill. Tired from all the excessive work Kaik laid down on the ground, “I have four days or so...why must I tire myself on the first? Will that kid even come? Of course she will! I think...girls like dolls right? Wait...what does that make me? Forget it, I need to work.”
