Siobhan's Journal

This book sits tucked away among Siobhan's possessions, rather unassuming despite its outward decor and metal fastener. It appears to be unused for the most part, or perhaps meticulous care was taken to preserve its condition.

Anything she feels compelled to put to paper rests here. Any correspondence is tucked away between the pages.

Siobhan's Journal

First Entry - 32 Spring 501

They got this book for me a day or two after my interview with Madame. Writing things down helps them to not go crazy. That's what they told me.

I haven't started work yet, but I'm getting mixed signals as to what I should be expecting. First they tell me it's not so bad, that they're all fine, that you get used to it eventually and then it's not such a big deal. But they certainly make it seem like a big deal.

My mom hasn't looked me in the eye since the interview, and I can understand that. She wanted more for me. But what did she expect? She knew full-well that this is what would happen. We don't have the money for me to go to that university down south. I bet it's not even real anyhow. Just a story people tell to get kids' hopes up, to make them think they can have a better future.

But! I'm sure it won't be so bad. I'm not like everyone else. I refuse to be broken. And they all know how stubborn I can be. It's all just an act anyway -- you go in, give the good hardworking folks of Sunberth what they've paid for, and move on. That's all. Heck, I won't even have to actually do anything, probably. Madame said I could get by on my looks.

Then again... this whole thing just seems wrong.

I'm going to meet with Helena tonight. I'll feel better then.
