Riding Practice (Solo)

71st of Summer, 514 AV

Suresslynn smiled as she rode out of the city and into the mountains beyond. Her leg had mostly recovered from the scrape with the flying lizard thing the previous day, though it was still somewhat tender to touch. Running her hand down the side of her horses neck, Suresslynn looked up at the woods and decided to avoid them for the day, instead turning south to the Syliran fields, where the Mithryn Outpost was. Spurring her horse into a gallop, the Dhani let out a laugh as the Ekytolian bred horse shot off across the plains. She figured that she wasn't likely to run into any desert terrain this far north, where everything was colder and seemingly wetter, but she felt it couldn't hurt to keep her horse. After all, the desert-bred beast had seen as much of the world as she had, and it would be ill-done of her to sell off such a constant companion. Though she still had to think of a name for the bloody thing.

The fields south of Syliras were largely flat, or at least they were where she was riding, and as she wasn't in a particular hurry to get to any form of civilization, the Dhani stayed well off the roads and away from anything that even looked remotely like something she might have to talk too. Instead, Suresslynn stayed in the fields, wandering aimlessly with no place to really be and plenty of time to get there. She even occasionally turned her horse completely around a few times and rode back over ground she'd already covered. The day was pleasantly warm to her she had no problem spending the whole day just riding in the fields to the south of the city, free of the constant stream of watching eyes she had felt like she was drowning in within Syliras's walls.

Riding Practice (Solo)

Postby Suresslynn on August 22nd, 2014, 2:05 am

Suresslynn had lost track of how long she'd been outside the city walls on her horse, riding on the green fields south of Syliras. She had spent a great deal of time just aimlessly riding around the fields, but now she was looking for something a little more challenging. She was fairly certain she remembered riding over a river on her way into the city. If she could find a part of that river that was wide enough, she might be able to have a little fun while she was out.

Angling to where she thought the river she remembered was, the Dhani spurred her horse towards the river, this time keeping the horse to a slower trot. It wasn't her favorite pace, but then she tended to prefer a full gallop over anything else. Of course, that tended to tire her horse out pretty quickly so she was trying to keep that to a minimum during the course of the day. Looking up the sky, the woman grinned slightly and shook her head. She would never have thought a place like Syliras existed if she had stayed in the desert her whole life. Sure, she probably would have heard about it, but she probably wouldn't have believed it.

If Suresslynn had to guess, she was south east of the Syliras now, and a pretty good distance away from the city. Which meant that if something happened, she'd likely be completely on her own. So of course, she was going to completely safe and cautious about where she rode her horse. Or she'd decide that she needed to cross a fairly narrow and shallow looking part of the big petching river in the Syliran Fields. That certainly sounded a lot more like something she'd do, and it certainly looked safe enough.

Her horse, on the other hand, did not think it looked like a good idea, and showed his opinion by rearing up on his hind legs when the woman tried to guide him into the river, dropping the Dhani right on her rear, as she never had this happen to her before and had no idea how to keep herself on the horse, and prancing away from the river. "Yeah, I'm sure you think you're real petching clever, dumping me off like that. Now get back here." she said, giving the horse a stern look and pointing at the ground in front of her. Of course, since she hadn't trained her horse to come like a dog, the Ekytolian bred mount simply wandered away a bit and started eating grass. "Oh, brilliant. My mount doesn't want to listen. Well, at least no one's here to see me." she said as she walked towards her horse.

"A whole bell. A whole petching bell. That's how long I've been trying to get back on, and you've been walking away from me. It's been fun, but don't you think it's time to stop?" Suresslynn looked at her horse with no small degree of frustration. The horse just looked at her with one of those uninterpretable horse expressions. "Okay, so you just stay there for me, okay..." she said, slowly edging towards her rebellious mount.

This time she was able to grab onto the horses reigns, and even get mounted on his back. "Okay, that wasn't so bad...right?" she said, petting the horses neck for a moment before nudging him into a canter. Or at least, that was what she tried to do. Instead, the horse leapt into an uncontrolled gallop across the plains. "You have got to be petching kidding me." she shouted as she tried to get her horse back under control.

Riding Practice (Solo)

Postby Suresslynn on August 25th, 2014, 3:43 am

Suresslynn was pretty sure that if they kept riding in the direction they were going, she was going to wind up in the bronze woods, which held exactly no appeal to the Dhani at the moment. Pulling up on her stallion, which caused it to rear back again, Suresslynn managed to keep her seat until the horse dropped back down to all four feet, now finally standing docilely under her.

"There we go...you'll do just fine like that, right?" she said, turning the horse away from the bronze woods and back to the city. "Come on, lets go get some rest, okay? I'll get you some...apples? Horses like apples, right? Or is sugar...or salt? No, that's not it..." she mused as she turned her tired horse towards the city. "Well, I'll figure out. And I'll figure you out. And then we'll be all happy and we'll go riding and you won't buck me off and run all over the place." she said cheerfully as she returned to Syliras. It had been a somewhat more eventful day than she had anticipated, but it had been a fun one as well.

Notes :
Good Job! Just a small heads up for future reference, you'll want to try playing more to your skill levels to avoid interventions from mods. Lvl 2 Riding probably would not allow you to gallop through a field with any relative ease, and that goes with steering too. You did however handle the retrieval of the stallion well. Not a big deal this time around but just remember to keep this in mind for the future.

Please don't hesitate to PM me with questions, comments, or concerns! Also, remember to edit your grade request as "graded."

Cheers :D
