A walk through the streets

84th, summer 514 AV

The air was starting to get colder, fall was closing in and summer was drawing to a close. The sky was barely cloudy, thin wisps of cloud blew through the sky.

Garland looked through the stores in the square, eyeing a large shield. He knew that the knights had weapons and armor galore, but all he wanted was just a shield for himself. Something that would compliment his sword. He moved away from the small store and made his way into the main street.

There were new faces, that's for sure. He didn't really know that many people here, he was always the quiet one.

A walk through the streets

84th of Summer 514AV

The miniture squire had spent nearly two seasons without his patron in sight nor earshot, so he had to make due on his own. Seeing as the Shield Games have already come and gone the pycon squire had taken to the streets for meet and greets and patrolling locations he had never gone to. Today it was some random corridor found among one of several districts of the Fortress City. Imass was enjoying the cooler temperatures as Ball could feel the mount's tail steadily thumping and shifting as it wagged to and fro. It was truly calmng and entirely uplifting to say he has seen and done so much on his own this past Summer that the squire could truly say he has changed the whole outlook of his existence.

Yesterday I was Ball... Today I am a knight-to-be. That much Ball knew, he was a knight-to-be, not just a squire... Sure both things were the exact same thing, but the knight-to-be sounded better to the two year old pycon.

Focus though on the task at hand, you are patrolling you must look around, pay attention.. Observe... Your job, your life, your people need that of you. That was when Ball's eye drifted from one side of the street to the other, his mouth screwed tightly into a grimace with a slight overbite. He was a short figure, in pretty drab coloration... Three inches and brown, clearly not a very intimidating persona. It wasn't his form that was scary though, most of the squires and knights of the order know of Ball's combat – especially after the first round of the Shield Games.

The first thing that came to an oddity was the man strapped with a rather large sword, he had never seen the man before and wasn't sure if he was one of the Order's newest squires – There are always people joining the ranks after all – and the sword didn't strike the squire as civilian approved.

Stopping his mount next to Garland the squire spoke, “Hello there.” his voice was gravelly and far deeper sounding that what was expected of his size, “I am Ball, a squire of the Order. I have never seen you around the city and was curious as to how you acquired a sword?” He pointed to the sword.

As Ball is getting closer and closer to maxing out Pyken as a skill, I would like to request that in places where Ball is not doing enough to constitute Pyken XP if Pyken technique lores could be issued instead.

Examples of proper XP level for Pyken would be: Ball developing or refining his technique by adding new thing against an actual moving target, not a dummy.

The use of basic skills alone are not enough to accomplish XP at Ball's current level of Pyken.

Thank you.

A walk through the streets

Postby Garland on August 27th, 2014, 5:55 pm

Garland stiffened up. He heard a deep voice from somewhere. He turned around, trying to find where the voice was conning from. He looked down at the Pycon, he was adorable, but he knew to never underestimate anyone. "I am Garland. I was an orphan here, until I... 'left'. I tend to stay in my home and rarely come out. This was my father's sword, the only thing I have from my parents. Ser." He said, bowing to Ball.

He noticed Ball's mount. "You have a fine mount, Ser. Does he have a name?" He took a closer look at Ball, he does seem familiar. "Excuse me, were you perhaps one of the contestants in during the shield games?"

Ball couldn't help but snort at being given the title of 'Ser' he was not a marked knight of the Order, yet. Holding up a hand the pycon had to stop himself from bursting with deep laughing, “Sorry sorry. I am not a 'Ser' I am just Ball. Yet you are an orphan and the last I recall orphans do not usually carry around swords given to them from the parents or otherwise. And you don't normally just... leave and have a home of their own.” It wouldn't be noticed by others but Ball tensed, the mount under him felt the tensing clay and his tensing up was noticeable by any passerby’s and Garland if he cared to take note of it.

“And yes I was a combatant in the Games that occurred during the season. I am not entirely sure if I should thank you and let slid your indiscretion of your protection among the orphanage... Or if I should look over it and return you.” Ball had completely ignored the bit about him having a rather fine mount. Imass was a sturdy fellow, obedient and steadfast, but a lazy bugger and not built at all for combat and heat. Or rocking ships or sea monsters... Or bloody walls or fighting armored and weapon-wielding knights in the snow... Or petching gut punches... Ball knew he could mentally keep going but that just wouldn't due... Imass had served him well, as a friend, a companion, and a steed.

“I would suggest removing the sword from your being, remaining in its scabbard, and place it on the ground before me. I won't say it twice and don't make me issue it in the authority of the Order I rather do this civilly.” As far as Ball knew and was concerned this being was still an orphan, and as far as Ball was concerned orphans didn't own weapons, let alone something most knights would wield. Ball knew two knights that fought well beyond his own skill with a sword, and both knights he had fought hand-to-sword.

“I recommend heeding my words.”

OOCI have no clue if weaponry is allowed to be displayed outside of homes by civilians let alone the circumstances presented to Ball.

Garland smiled when Ball snorted at him. He knew he wasn't a 'Ser' yet, he just wanted to fluster, maybe flatter the Pycon. "I didn't exactly leave, more like kicked out." He said and removed his sword from belt. He was reluctant, but rules were rules. "I can get this back at a later date, right?"

He placed it down in front of Ball. "I have a question, where would one find this 'fighter's guild?"

OOCpressing the ooc button takes me back to the main forum page. Can Ball even lift the sword up? Sorry for the short posts. I usually write better on a keyboard.

“Getting kicked from an orphanage seems a bit hard to have done... What did you manage to do that gave you that sentence eh?” When the orphan placed the sword on the ground the pycon, wih help of his mount, tugged on the sword so it was several feet from Garland before he lowered it to the ground and stood in front of it.

“I think we can arrange for it to be returned shortly enough. As for what you ask of. There is the Pits but I am afraid I am poor with directions I can take you there though.” Ball nodded, “However I would recommend you speak to the knighthood's recruitment center though, an orphan with a sword is a bit unnerving in the city and if you were a squire it would be far more understandable and even ignored that you are an orphan.” He pointed the way he came, “Come on, I will show you the way. Sound good?”

If Garland said yes Ball would mount Imass and allow the orphan to take his weapon and follow.

Joining the squire? Perfect was planning to join, but I am nervous. Garland thought to himself and smiled.

"I would gladly join the knights, it has always been a dream of mine." He took up his sword and sheared it on his back. "Actually, the reason I was kicked out was that I hated bullies, and well... I had a fight... Several actually and some were very injured and could have possibly have lost an arm or a leg."

He looked at the Pycon, hoping to get some emotion or be able to read his face, would his little story kill his chances of joining the knights? He didn't know but he did hope not.

When the orphan said that he would come with Ball, the Pycon nodded and listened to the boy start rambling. First it seemed that he had a dream to become a knight, From my understanding that's most orphans wanting something far more than they actually are. Yet the last bit about the fights and being kicked out didn't seem realistic enough to the Pycon, his monocular eye turned upwards, staring at the man with it's lack of a pupil and non-blinking eyelids.

“Fighting would suggest being punished by your caretakers, I still believe you ran away to start your life anew. Yet injuring children isn't very smart and telling a member of the order may get you in trouble. I suggest not telling that to the recruiter. Besides, I doubt you could do much damage, as in then orphanage you wouldn't be allowed your sword or a weapon.”

Ball shook his head and mounted his dog steed, a small shift in his body and dog and rider turned to face the direction they needed to head. “Grab your sword and follow. Sheath it or I will beat you senseless.” There was no menacing there, there was no threat... It was literally just a point of fact.

A walk through the streets

Postby Garland on October 9th, 2014, 1:04 pm

"Yes sir..." He was about to follow the small Semi-ball shape squire. He lied about being kicked out, he didn't like spreading the word that he ran away.

When he was younger, he was nearly the biggest kid, only one kid was bigger than him. This kid was the bully, and he was very mean and holds a grudge. He didn't want people to know that he ran away, right before a special healer was coming over to check on the bully's injury. There was no way he could have avoided a fight, so he decided to "borrow" some funds from the orphanage and try to make his own out here in the city. He didn't want to hurt his chances on joining the knights, he wanted to show that he was not just a kid on the street.

"I actually had permission to bring it with me, just to never unsheathe it inside or around the area of the Welcome Home Orphanage. I am allowed to take it to the woods or the fighter's pit to train, though." He explained, he followed the rule to the letter, he was confident that he would get his sword back by the end of the day.

"So what's your story, Ball." He asked curious. He hasn't met much Pycons around the city since they are so small. Though he did know Hammer Fist, that one Pycon that sorta freaked him out a bit.

Ball shrugged and made a motion for the child to take back his weapon, besides it was far too large and heavy for Ball to carry it and he looked up at him, “Regardless of your story. Your past, everyone is welcomed. Let’s go. The office is right around the corner from here.” And at that Ball started taking his mount and led the way.

“My story?” He looked back at the boy, “I lived. I was squired. I remained. I fought things. I survived.” He shrugged there was no more need of a story… That was it. Returning his gaze back to the forward positioning Ball grimaced and thought about his next move from here, the corridors were crowded and this big lug was just lumbering behind him.

OOCGods both a short post AND so late… Sorry about this. I think this is finished if ya wanna turn it in.
