Feeling quite happy that she asked if he was hungry, he couldn't help but smile at her. "Uh Yeah, I am. Hmmm where and what are always a hard choice to go for." He looked over to the stalls and who was selling what. "How about some freshly baked sweet rolls? Does that sound good?"
He felt very happy to be with her. Like being with a close friend even though they just met a few chimes ago. "Oh, the eggs are close, just pass that corner, would you like to go? Or would you like to get a snack first?" He smiled and looked at her. He blushed, he never actually noticed that much or cared, but she was very cute, and he just noticed that he's been holding her hand for a while now. She didn't seem to mind, but now he felt a bit awkward, he looked like he'd been running from the knights for the good part of the day, in contrast to her, she looked like she just came out of the bath house.
Ughhhh! Why did I have to think that!? He blushed even more, he tried to shake off the feeling of embarrassment. "C-Come on, I'll pay for our lunch if you'd let me." He carefully led her to one of the stalls and looked over to the owner. "Two of your freshest sweet rolls. Please."
"That'll be four silvers, sir." The owner said, and quickly wrapped the two pastries in some paper, and handed them to Garland.
Garland reached into his pocket and quickly paid the man. His blush was going away from his face now, and he tried to calm himself down, and it worked rather well.

Garland asked if Lora wanted what he called ‘freshly baked sweet rolls’. She had no idea what those were but she liked sweet things and mostly anything that was freshly baked was good so she nodded her head in agreement.
Garland seemed to realize something, and then he informed Lora that the eggs were just around the corner and asked her if she would like to get them or the food first.
Lora didn’t even have to think for a second before responding. “Let’s get a snack first.” She could smell so many sweet smells that she was excited to see what these ‘sweet rolls’ tasted like. Lora stuck her hand into her pocket where the money her mom had given her for the eggs was. Her mother had given her some extra money and said if she wanted to buy herself something to eat that would be fine. She hoped the extra money her mom had given her would be enough to buy the sweet rolls.
As Lora stepping a bit to the side to avoid getting bumped into by someone passing by, Garland said he would pay for their lunch, if she let him. Why wouldn’t I let him? “Of course I’ll let you.” She smiled at him then realizing it might be impolite to make him pay, she added. “If you want to, that is. If you don’t want to, I can pay. Unless. . .” Garland cut her off by taking her hand and leading her over to one of the stalls with a baker in it.
When they were close to the stall the smell was even more delicious. Garland asked that man for two sweet rolls. In reply the owner of the shop, who was a tall, thin, middle aged man, asked for four silver. The man wrapped two delicious looking, frosting covered pastries in some brown paper. After taking the pastries, Garland reached into his pocket taking out some money and paying the man for the sweet rolls.
As they walked away from the stall Lora said, “Thank you for buying them.” She smiled and looked around for somewhere they could go to eat without standing in the road and constantly being in the way of traffic. She noticing a bench a few paces away, she said, “Do you want to go and sit on that bench while we eat?” She lifted her hand and pointed toward the bench.
Now it was Lora’s turn to lead. She took Garlands hand and pull/led him to the bench. Sitting down on the dark wooden bench she sat on the far left so there would be enough room for Garland. “Do you want to sit down?” |

"Bench? Okay. Sounds good." This she took the lead, he smiled at her, he was smiling a lot since they met. He sat down next to Lora, he passed out one of the sweet rolls, the sweet creamy pastries was one of Garland's favorites, he hoped she liked it.
He took out his own sweet roll and took a small bite out of the side. He gave an audible 'mmmmhmmm' the sweet succulent treat melted inside his mouth. The soft bread blended perfectly with the creamy goodness and sugary taste. He absolutely loved it, but not as much as the company he had.
Though he didn't know her that well. "I wanted to ask where you lived, just curious. Maybe I can visit sometime if its okay with you." Was he hitting on her? He didn't know, for he knew he was just asking a friend. He wasn't good with his emotions.

Garland sat down next to Lora and handed her one of the sweet rolls. The roll felt a bit sticky but it smelled amazing. It was warm, the kind of warm you don’t get from warming a pastry up when your mom takes it home to you. It was fresh-out-of-the-oven warm and Lora thought that was the most amazing thing ever. Smiling from ear to ear, she took a huge bite of it. The treat melted in her mouth. She chewed the bite slowly enjoying the warm, sweet taste.
When she had swallowed the bite she smiled and said, “This is amazing. Thank you!” She took another bite of the sweet roll.
After she had finished the roll, savoring every bite, Garland asked her where she lived. “Yes, you should come visit! If you want to, that is.” She paused for a seconded to lick her fingers to get the stickiness off. “Down that street,” She pointed to the street they had come out of. “Then keep going until your first left. Then go past three houses. The third one is where I live. You can’t miss it.” A thoughtful expression suddenly came over Lora’s face. “Actually, you can miss it fairly easily. I should do something to make it easier to find.” Her thoughtful expression was replaced with one of realization. She stuck her hand into her pocket and pulled out the handkerchief. Waving it triumphantly in the air she said, “I’ll hang this out one of the windows. Then you will be able to find my house!” She looked back at Garland and smiled.
“Where do you live?” Lora asked, sticking the handkerchief back in her pocket. In the background she heard the man who sold them the sweet rolls yelling about how good his pastries were. “I probably wouldn’t be able to come see you, though.” |

"Oh, that's good, I would love to come and visit. I actually living in the orphanage, its pretty OK, just the chores are so boring." He groaned and stretched. He quickly ate the remains of his sweet roll, he licked his fingers and used the outside of the brown bag to wipe the rest off.
"Should we get going? Or are you still hungry?" He asked and stood up from the bench. He offered his hand to help her up. "Do you have any other friends here? Just asking." He asked, maybe they had a mutual friend they didn't know about, but Garland doubted it, since he has a small circle of friends to begin with.
He wondered if her parents would like him, it looked like she doesn't get out much so he was worried that he might be banned from seeing her when he visits her.

Lora wasn’t sure what to say when Garland told her he lived in an orphanage. Lora, who only lived with her mom, had often wished she had both parents who stayed regularly with her. Her mother was great, though, and Lora couldn’t imagine living without her. She didn’t know if she should act sympathetically or if that would offend him. Luckily she didn’t have to figure it out because Garland asked her if she would like to go or if she was still hungry.
She looked up at him and smiled. “Let’s go.” She clapped her hands together. “Unless you’re still hungry. Then we can eat something, else.” She was going to say something else when she noticed Garland had stood up and was offering her a hand. She accepted it and got up too.
As they stood in front of the bench Garland asked Lora if she had any friends here. “Yes, a few.” She said thoughtfully. “I don’t go out that much because my mom is always worried I will get one of my fevers.” She elaborated.
“Do you have any friends here?” Lora asked. A man pushed past Lora leading her to realize they were standing in the road again. “Let’s get eggs, now!” Lora said. She remember that Garland had said the eggs were just around the corner and started walking in the direct they had been going before.
“Where are the eggs?” Lora looked around at the different stands as she walked by them. None of them looked like they sold eggs. Lora was suddenly really glad she had run in to Garland. She realized there was no way she could have found the eggs on her own. |

"Well, I do have a few friends here and there, but not really close friends." He answered as the two of them walked down the street
The streets were getting busier, since they started moving into the main shopping district of the bazaar, the place where the most trinkets and grocery were packed in, also the freshes and cheapest. Despite the increase of quality, the quantity of the goods here made everything cheaper than the more 'isolated' merchants.
The merchants were all trying to call them over to see their wares, after a while walking, they spotted the vendor that sold the eggs. They were large and very white, you could mistake them for goose eggs if didn't inspect carefully.
The price was a little higher than usual, but the quality and size were very much worth it. Of course there were also smaller eggs there for the costumer that would be on a budget.

Lora continued to follow Garland as he walked through the crowded streets that were only getting more crowded. She gazed at the stalls, each selling their own product, and wondered what she would sell if she had a stall. She decided that she would most likely sell paintings. She had always liked painting and her mother had and continued to teach her various techniques. My stall would be blue. She thought, nodding to herself. Some of the stalls were painted and Lora would defiantly want to paint hers. Blue, being her favorite color, was the color she decided she would paint it.
Suddenly Lora realized she was no longer following Garland and so she stopped and looked around. The people around her were mostly adults and very tall in comparison to Lora so she tried jumping to see over them. It didn’t work. She was still too short. A few of the people parted and Lora was able to catch a glance of Garland a few paces ahead of her and still walking. She rushed up to him squeezing between some people. Lora continued to walk behind Garland, only now she was careful not to let her mind wander. She intently stared at Garland’s back so she didn’t get lost again. The pair continued to walk until Garland suddenly made a turn. Lora looked up and saw that he was walking toward one of the stalls that appeared to be selling eggs.
“Eggs!” Lora exclaimed, excitedly clapping her hands together and following Garland to the stand. The eggs came in different sizes and Lora was confused as to which her mom wanted.
“I’ll take a dozen of-,” She looked over the eggs and made a quick decision. “-those.” She pointed to the smallest eggs. She had always been a fan of small things, she found small things cute and so she had made the decision to choose the smallest eggs.
“That’ll be one silver Miza.” The merchant said. He had an accent that Lora couldn’t quite put her finger on. She stuck her finger in her pocket and pulled out one silver ringed coin. She handed it to the man. He took it and inspected it as if he was checking if it was real. Then he tossed the coin in a box on the ground behind the stand. It clattered as it hit the money already in the box. He packaged the twelve eggs in a box and handed them to Lora. She took them and carefully held the box I both hands.
“Thank You.” She smiled at the merchant. He just nodded in reply. She stepped away from the stand, letting the person waiting in line behind her go to buy their eggs.
“Shall we go back?” She asked Garland. “Or, was there something you where here to buy? We could get that, then. Unless you don’t want me tagging along with you to get what it is you’re getting. If that is the case I will go home.” |

Garland offered to carry the eggs. “Yes, that would be great!” She held out the box. Before he could take them she jolted it box back, causing the eggs to roll around a bit. “Or, would that be rude if I made you carry them?” She said more to herself than anyone else. She pondered the question for a second before making a decision. “I’ll keep them.”
Garland asked about how to get back to Lora’s house. He seemed to be confused about how if it was a right or left turn. “Um,” Lora thought for a second. “Left.”
Garland took her hand again and started leading her through the crowds. They started off fairly thick but as they got further from the main shopping area they started to let up. Lora tried to pay tension to the way they were going so she might be able to go back the same route sometime on her own. The effort was pointless. Her mind kept getting sidetracked looking at an interesting stall, smelling an interesting food or something like that. Before long they had made it back to the place Lora had run into Garland. From there Garland told her she should lead the way in order to keep them from getting lost. She wasn’t sure she would be able to keep them from getting lost but she would try.
Taking the lead, Lora walked down the alley until she got to a turn that leads off into another road. She went down that road until she got to the house that was hers. It was a small one story house with a wooden door and a singular window next to the door.
“Here is my house.” She announced to Garland. Suddenly she noticed a note attached to the door. It was written on a faded piece of white paper. The Note read:
Gone to an old friend's. Be back in a few bells. Love, Mom
“Oh, sorry, I guess Mom’s out.” Lora said. “You could come back later? Or maybe another day? When she says a few bells sometimes it can be a while.” |
