The Man in Crimson

OOCSorry for the delay. My muse left me. Now she's back.

The man's harried motions as he began to check on the warrior reminded Sh'Ky of a bird. The man wasn't birdlike in any way, at least not in his appearance, but his quick movements struck close to that of a sparrow, small and quick. The mercenary, stabbed in the thigh, snatched his loaf of bread, and clutched it tightly, the pain making him focus only on one thing at a time. For some reason, he sounded apologetic, but 'Ky couldn't blame the man for anything. Gold attracted anyone, but this man had just gotten himself stabbed. So it's only natural that he's sorry that he leapt in.

"Listen, I'm sorry that you got injured. But at least you have a bit of coin to pay a physician. Or, in your case, sir, buy supplies," he said, nodding to the doctor. "In any case, I've paid you, and now it's time for us to go our separate ways. If you ever need to find me again, go to the south-eastern part of the Slums, and ask for the Crimson Man. I'll find you soon enough." Turning, he began the long walk to his home near the edge of the city. He didn't know what would happen to the two men, but he hoped that they would meet under nicer terms later.

Transaction-70 GM subtracted.
OOCI'm sorry to end this thread so quickly, but if you want to do future threads together, I'm willing.
College is picking up, sorry if I'm not on for long periods of time.

How did you know that what you sought was redemption and not righteous vengeance?
Redemptio et quomodo iusti non quod petitur intelligis quia quod vindicta?

A Chance Encounter. [William]

Postby William Hart on October 28th, 2014, 3:24 pm

William scowled at Amon unpleasantly, face twisted in pain and eyes clouded. He forced himself to focus on each word, and the effort of concentration made his skull pound like a war drum. His nostrils flared and his teeth grated hard.

"Right," he growled quietly and tried to readjust himself, shifting his back more comfortably against the wall behind his back.

He watched the man go about tending to his own wound, though he found himself drift in and out of consciousness once or twice. The loaf of bread clutched protectively to his chest lost its heat during his wait, but he didn't notice. When his focus would return, he concentrated on Amon. When Sh'Ky spoke again, he realized he'd forgotten about the man. The whole cause of all this. Will tipped his head carefully, trying not to move any more than he had to. He looked at the man, and when his payment was offered, Will offered his hand palm up.

"The Crimson Man?" he mumbled curiously. "We'll see. Thanks for the coin."

And that was all he said. What else was he supposed to do? He'd been stabbed for being stupid enough to help the man. That said enough all on its own. After Amon patched him up--if he could--Will would see if the payment was compensation enough. He dropped the mizas into a jacket pocket and focused once more on the strange healer. He was finishing up with his wound, and when he returned the William's side, he jumped right in.

"A little," was his answer, and after a pause he reluctantly continued. "Can you fix it?"

OOCIt's just you and I now, Amon. We're to finish up our end to wrap it up.

He surveyed it closley, probing the tissue around the wound while watching the mans expressions, looking for any clear signs of pain. "Lets hope the heat is giving you the light head. I don't think it nicked the artery, but it may be close. I am going to take this out, and I need you to stay absolutely still, alright?" It truthfully wasn't a question, which was evident as Amon gripped the hilt of the dagger tightly, and then pulled in one swift motion, removing the dagger entirely.

He gazed into the wound as blood filled it slowly, sighing gratefully, "it didn't hit an artery, you should be ok after you see a healer. I need to rub this paste," he said, holding up the jar of balm, "into the wound, it will help slow the bleeding and clean it out." He pushed two fingers into the balm, scooping a gracious amount from the jar. He positioned it above the gash, and massaged it into the wound, knowing how painful it had to be.

It was finished, at least the most painful part, and Amon poured some alfalfa into the wound to further stop the bleeding, looking at his crimson coated hands with slight disgust. Even he got a little woozy when enough blood was spilled, a negative sensation as a doctor. He threaded his needle once again, tying it down to the needle tightly. The tip punctured, and Amon pulled it through to the other side, continuing the zig zag motion all the way across the wound.

He snipped the thread and tied the end to ensure it would not come out, wiping his hands on the already bloody backpack, seeing no harm in turning it red, for there were already splotches covering it. "This will work for now, but I assure you, you need to see a healer or a better suited doctor. And go slow, these stitches might break if you overuse your leg. Expect severe pain and possible swelling, any sign of infection and you go back to a doctor immediately." Amon began to gather his things, putting them back into his bag and handing his patient a few treated bandaids. "It will bleed a bit, when it does apply pressure and hold one of these onto it." He stood, backpack in tow and turned, ready to leave the site of attack to avoid any further conflict. "Good luck."

A Chance Encounter. [William]

"Let's hope," he growled through clenched teeth, watching Amon poke at his leg like it was nothing.

A cold sweat had broken out on his brow, and he fidgeted uncomfortably. This is going to be awful, he thought. And it was. Without any warning, not even a shift in the doctor's stoic expression, he grabbed the hilt of the dagger and yanked it right out.

William couldn't help but scream. There was no hope of silence, but luckily the street was clear of people. The fight and now the bodies of the dead kept them away like a magical ward. They were all alone. Soon though, the scavengers would close in the pick the bodies clean of belongings. If any of these men had valuable fillings, their teeth would be pulled. Perhaps an eye or fingers would end up missing. There were a lot of strange, sick collectors that lurked in the background, watching a waiting.

It wouldn't even surprise him if someone took an entire body. Some people would eat anything, especially if starvation was knocking on their door. Will shuddered, but not from his grotesque thoughts. Blood oozed steadily from the gash in his thigh like spring water from a well.

His face was pale, features strained. He watched Amon scoop some of his mysterious goop from his jar, and his body tensed well before it even touched the wound. When his fingers prodded and rubbed the torn, bleeding flesh the breath hissed through his teeth like the sound of a cornered animal. He clenched his fists tightly and even thought of smashing Amon in the mouth for a moment, but instead pushed his knuckled roughly into his mouth to muffle the groans and pained whimpers that escaped him with every hurried touch.

When the stitches began he wasn't even sure what to do. His mind seemed to give up and go numb. Will sat rigid as the wound was carefully threaded shut. It felt like an eternity at first, those beginning sutures. He wasn't positive if he finally lost consciousness for a moment, because suddenly it was done. Amon's voice startled him, and he realized his face was wet with tears. Angry with himself and feeling like a weak child, he roughly rubbed them away with his dirty sleeve. Red eyed and woozy, he examined the stitches as closely as he could focus, then glanced at Amon.

"Thank you," he mumbled as sincerely as he could.

The strange doctor probably just saved his life. Now he had to make a decision. Seek further medical attention--how expensive that would be he didn't want to imagine--or just go home and try to fight through it. Either way he was losing. Will sighed, sagging against the wall at his back exhausted. For now he just wanted to sit here. He moved only to take the bandages the man handed him, and he nodded another thank you silently. When he turned to leave, Will spoke again.

"Wait," he said.

Clumsily, he nudged the bloody dagger that lay on the ground beside him toward Amon's boot.

"Take this with you. It should be worth something, or you can keep it for yourself. It's a good knife, trust me."

He offered a smile, but it was pained and tired, looking uglier than he intended.

"Good luck to you as well. Name's Will by the way. "

OOCAlright Amon, it's up to you if you want to make one more post or not.
