Ethaefal and Starting Out

Postby Algol on September 19th, 2014, 12:51 am

Hello, those of you who are far more knowledgeable than I!

I'm sure someone knows the answers, so here I go.

I am starting my Ethaefal from square one. By square one I mean her first thread this season will be her Fall from Syna's realm. I hope to have at least one other PC in on the thread so that they can help her to the city and in general ease some of the disorientation she'll experience.

My main question is this: Can she start with nothing? This means no starting package. By choice I wish to start her naked as a newborn and as penniless as they come.

Side note: Is starting from the Fall even allowed? I don't know why it wouldn't be, but I just want to make sure.

Secondly, if I start an Ethaefal from the moment of her Fall, does she still have skills other than what is provided as a racial bonus? Would she remember skills from her past life, or have to learn everything from the beginning? Which is completely fine. It's more exciting with practically nothing, and it would make more sense in my eyes--unless of course she has an instinctual grasp of things she had done. Like muscle memory. If I have a choice, I'd love to start her with zilch but her racial skill. That's not as important though.

I think that's it for now. Once these are sorted out I will move forward with development and a character sheet.

Thank you.

You could always just start a year after and do a lot of flashbacks it would make things a hell of a lot simpler

I would prefer to start from the very beginning. I think it would be simpler than creating a timeline for that year and setting up multiple flashbacks, but that's just me. Plus I think it would be more fun. That's the main thing. I would enjoy it.

how about you just fall at the start of september and just ignore that you have money and possessions for a while. I'm pretty sure that with the Ethaefals connection to their past lives a bit of there skills pass over.

You mean "obtain" my starting package later? If it's allowed I'd be up for going that route. It crossed my mind but I wasn't sure if it was alright to do. I guess at the worst I could receive an intervention telling me otherwise!

As far as skills go, you can just pick neutral skills. You are going to fall as an adult. Your mortal seeming is pretty much going to play like an amnesiac; plucked from one life and put into another with no memory of who they are or where they've wound up, except for the memory and knowledge that you were in the Ukalas until, suddenly, you were thrown back out into the world. So, your body will have muscle memory and you still possess skills. No one's completely skill-less; not even children. :)

When it comes to the starting package, you'd have to ask the Storyteller in whichever city you decide to start in since that's up to them to decide. Also keep in mind that if you start with literally nothing, you'll be hard pressed to find a job so you can pay your seasonal wages. Not being able to pay them essentially means your character dies. As long as you keep this in mind... Like I said, contact your local Storyteller and ask them!

EDIT: And yes, most of the time it's assumed that your starting package can be obtained later through threads. Be it through generous donations or something else. If you intend on falling in this season and starting truly fresh, though, I still suggest you contact an ST to work out the details and so they're aware what you're planning.

Thanks so much Twister, that answers everything I needed! It all works well with what I was hoping for. As for not being skill-less, it makes sense once I see it put down like that, so I agree. I can add them into social skills, etcetera. Thank you!
