He believes that only by returning to the old ways can life be better for everyone. Character History As a child, Gruff was playing with other children in the grim frozen northern land of his birth, and he wandered away and got lost. There was no lord or noble to help lead the search party, and he ended up nearly dying of exposure and dehydration. Some years later, Gruff's village was attacked by a neighboring village in a simple dispute over land. There was no magistrate to make an adjudication, and so the villages went to war and many people died. As an adult, Gruff was in love with a woman but she was carried away by a bigger stronger man. There was no higher authority to seek justice to. After a life time of things going wrong, Gruff has decided that HE will be that justice, and that authority.
