46th Fall, 514 AV - The Fish Bowl

The time had come now, her debt was due by the end of the season and she required further pieces upon her chess board to play the game adequately, she had her eyes in Pulren and the mind in herself. She possessed many things when it came to muscle and fighting prowess but what she really required were slight hands and an ability to take that which was not hers. Or rather what was not other's. She had plans of course, she wasn't going into what was required blind and if she possessed what was required it would be relatively simple to unseat Thane's contact and place him in power for her own reasons. The irony that as she sought to do good in Sunberth she was forced to play the part of the vagabond was not lost on her. It was something that filled her with both amusement and sadness.

It shouldn't be like this, it should be easier and less brutally criminal. But this is Sunberth not Syliras. I should think myself lucky for having any power to right things at all. A debt I will forever owe Fallon I think she mused as she sat with a cup of full bodied wine, smoke curling around her face from her pipe.

As with Pulren, attracted by the rumour and notes slipped here and there throughout the city, she was counting upon finding a curious soul willing to explore and get a little dirty at her beckoning. It was a simple affair to play the board, though some perhaps would not see it that way. She was contactable only through what she liked to call mirrors – that was people who knew bits and pieces of the whole. Some knew she wanted a thief, others a fighter and so on. The only thing all of them knew was her pseudo name of Web and the location of the Fish Bowl as the meeting point after Syna had left the sky. The rest they would find out, if they were brave enough to meet the hazard. She was not a gentle teacher, not a forgiving mistress, but she was at least willing to give chances to those of unknown quality. That in itself was an attraction the the budding, the ambitious.

Yet so far too many of them have proven either too idiotic or too self-serving, I require better minds and hearts. There is little point assisting me if all you want to do is become the next Dalagnar. It would serve no one she noted to herself privately between puffs of rich, thick smoke.

She had encountered too many whom had professed the qualities she required but had not met her standards – such was the lot of the perfectionist it seemed. She wondered if any of those she had sent packing would have changed their ways had they known everything – a consideration that troubled her but was unavoidable. If they knew everything then what was to stop them selling her out? No, she would woo them with profit and improvement and if they couldn't accept being in the dark until they had proven themselves then they could seek elsewhere. Still...time was growing shorter and she had a deadline to meet. Thane and his thugs were not a group she wanted to have to deal with in death, they were much better to her alive. Leastways because they exercised some restraint where others just stabbed an enemy to death mercilessly. And so she waited, waited for the confluence she was seeking.

If it comes to it I'll do it all with what I have but there is more at stake than a guard's abilities. We need better people if we are to build a better world she knew that well enough.

Should anyone decide to risk themselves they would find her in the corner of the tavern, surrounded by noise and paid no mind to. An unobtrusive patron at first glance in skirts and vest. They would know her by her eye patch if they knew her reputation at all.
