Nodding Shai looked over the tombstone, it was just the kind of place she would hide something. Thankfully none of the earth before the stone was disturbed, but circling around she found the earth behind it to be soft and mounded over. With the toe of her boot she nudged through the soil. Didn’t take but a moment to find her cloak folded into a soft square had been buried right here. The buttons were immediately obvious to the woman who’d worn the cloak for years. This may have been its last hurrah though between the old fabric and the stamped in dirt.
Pulling it from the earth and giving the black cloak a good shake Shai began rifling through the pockets. Most of it was the usual suspects, a few mizas, a few weapons, some rope. All of the strange bits the thief had needed over the years, but in one tiny pocket she found something curious. Pulling it out she showed the tiny yellow bone di to Lucian. “Is this what we stole Chell?” She spoke out loud for Lucian’s Sake.
Affirmative
Shai nodded in reply, relaying the confirmation. “Alright, let us….” She cut off in the damp night she heard what might as well be a bull racing through astle commons. No sense of stealth. Shai ducked down behind the tombstone, grabbing Lucian’s hand to bring him down with her. She put a finger to her lips. Sliding on her fouled cloak and hiding the di again.
The men, for it surely had to be a pair to make such a racket were speaking. “Tha’ bookie from the pits said ‘e sold it to Fencie. The other boys’ll get that one, lucky sods. How are we supposed ter find a thief in the night, eh?” His partner just grunted in return.
Crouched so low she was nearly on all fours, Shai began to crawl away in the opposite directions of the voices. She carefully placed each foot fall, so that her toes hit first and then she took the rest of her weight on the bounce of her heel. She did her best to make as little noise as possible, but there was no telling if they would be found out or not. The Mist muffled some sound and much sight, but it was up to luck now.
