Medicine Questions

Hi folks,

I'm toying with the idea of a doctor PC, starting in Syliras. I've been looking through the locations lore but can't see any kind of central infirmary/hospital, which surprised me.

I wondered if this was intentional or just hasn't been written up yet? If the latter then is there anything generally accepted about medical practice in the city? i.e. would there be a lot of little infirmaries/'house-call' style doctors? Would you assume that healthcare is paid for by the city in some way or would you need to pay for any medical care you get yourself? Would the Knights have their own medical staff?

I think five questions is quite enough for one paragraph!

The Soothing Waters

It's the primary location for healthcare services in the city. Non-knights are required to pay, whereas Knights receive free healthcare. There are medics within the ranks of the knights, and healers which help them as well. I played a doctor in Syliras for awhile and I did do some house-call style work, so that is a possibility. Please let me know if any of this doesn't clear anything up or creates more questions.

Forgive me for the extra questions but seems a bit of an odd place for the centre of the city's medical facilities. I suppose I should really be asking what kind of medical care is in need or required in the city?

Injury and disease are messy and dangerous even in our modern age. It seems to conflict in my mind a bit with the soothing atmosphere of a pool and massage services.

Is heathcare much of a problem? What happens if someone can't afford medical care?

Sorry - not trying to be a pest, just trying to dig into the mindset of the place and the people some more!

I've always thought of it as having different, for lack of a better word, wards for the various services that it provides. So there are the baths, there's the area for massage, and then there's the medical area. I know it's nothing like that in the modern day, but Syliras is really cramped. Space is at a premium, so they make as much use of an area as they can.

You'll have to talk to Nightmare, the Domain Storyteller of Syliras, to find out current conditions in the city and any specifics about healthcare in the city. There's no universal healthcare (unless you're a Knight) or anything like that, so people have to be able to pay or they won't get care from the facility. That's not to say there aren't people who are altruistic, but the Soothing Waters is going to require payment.
