I am in the process of adding a rotating banner feature to the site. Basically, on the pages that don't already have a custom banner, we would cycle through a series of banners over time; maybe one every 10 minutes or so, to help users with slower connections and discourage the curious click-click-clickers.
Of course, there is no point in doing this without some actual banners to display. The idea was inspired by Diane's excellent Halloween banner - why not let the community pour in their great artistic skills and contribute banners to Mizahar? So, if you are interested, here's the checklist to follow. Yes, accepted banners will earn you a new medal!
1) Only JPEG images, 861x225 pixels, will be considered. Weight shouldn't exceed 100-150 KB. 2) The banner must contain the word "Mizahar" in readable characters. Captions will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Generally speaking, using no captions at all is far better than a cheesy caption (visit most of our competitors for examples of cheesy captions). 3) Make sure you can use a picture before making a banner out of it. No copyrighted material should be used without permission. 4) No recognizeable people from real life, shows, movies, anime, comics or what have you. 5) Keep the banner faithful to Mizahar's world and atmosphere. No use picturing a busy metropolis when most of the world is empty wilderness. Just as well, Elf pictures will be rewarded with a special "trash" medal that I will add Just For You. 6) Be respectful of the site's overall color scheme. We may ask you to tone down excessive brightness or saturation. (We reserve the right to add more restrictions later on if it becomes necessary. We also reserve the right to include or exclude a banner based on our judgment. Please don't take this personally.) |
Finally - save an editable copy of your banner with layers and everything! We may ask you to make changes to the banner before it can be accepted. If you have thrown away the original, you might have wasted lots of time and effort.
Thanks for your attention!
