Character Concept

Having been driven from home and then basically kidnapped from his father's ship Oliver doesn't really have many goals. Although his main one right now is to basically stay alive and at least try to co-exist with his master. However, if he were to ever get free he does have one wish he would currently pursue. To get a ship and set back out on the high seas. Olive doesn't really know what he is going to do once out on the seas, but he will most likely go back to a live of trade if he doesn't form any new goals.

Character History

Oliver was born on the 1st of Winter, AV 488 to an Inarta father and a mother who was both Drykas and Svefra. Having been born on the first of winter in a place as harsh as Wind Reach his family had some problems. His fathers being the only one able to work due to his mother not being trusted with most in Wind Reach coupled with the fact that they would have to now support a newborn lead to financial problems. Although they were lucky to only birth one child would help the case it did not solve it. His father would be forced to work all day and sometimes even nights to pay for the family.

While most children in Wind Reach would be offered the chance to be cared for by the nursery in such a situation Oliver's situation was different. Seeing as his parents didn't want him to be taken away they did not allow it. This was also coupled with how his mother did not get along with the locals. Later this would also result in Oliver not being taken moved to the Yasi quarters to be placed in a caste. Instead he and his family would live on the outskirts of Wind Reach. Seeing as they would not bother the locals his mother was purely a house wife while his father was the one who would go in to town when need be.

Since the family was in need of money Oliver would begin to learn the traditional skills an Inarta would know, the art of glassworking. Due to Oliver being both a quick learner and his father being a good teacher he would pick up on the art quite quickly. By the time Oliver was ten he would begin working as a glassworker. Although he would be doing simple task such as panting the glass he would still be able to practice his skills.

While Oliver worked most of the day he would still be able to find a small sliver of free time to enjoy himself. With this free time the boy would find his love in a large array of thinks from falconry to singing and even sailing. The most noticeable would be the latter. Oliver's love for sailing would come from the next chapter in his life however.

When Oliver turned eighteen his father be fired from his job due to his skills no longer being needed. Even though Oliver's father was a skilled glassworker he still had one more skill to make money for the family with, the art of trade. Leaving the safety of Wind Reach Oliver's father would buy a ship and set out for the open sea. Once on the waters he and a small crew of around ten would sail from city to city buying and selling goods for profit. Once they would finish the route they would return home for a short spell before repeating the route. This would go on for eight long years. During which Oliver would begin to do some real glassworking to help support his mother and himself.

Once Oliver turned twenty-six however things would take a turn for the worst. His mother would come down with a unknown illness. While a healer might have been able to help her she would deteriorate too fast for anyone to help. Around a week after his mother passed his father would return from the sea. Devastate by the lost of his wife Oliver's father became withdrawn. Not eating very much or often. He would barely even say more then a few words to anyone, Oliver being an exception. However, the latter would slowly fade away as he began to at least live with the fact she was gone. Although he would never be the same.

Since his father only found happiness on the sea, at least that is what his crew told Oliver, twenty-six year old Oliver would sway him into setting sail once more. With Oliver being a part of the crew and helping his father continue on with life. The two along with the crew would simply continue on the trade route Oliver's father did so they could make money. Although they would take some shore leave at certain cities. This would be the stage of his life where Oliver would take up his love of gambling. Betting most of his cut from the trades while on leave. While he would lose most of his money at the start he would improve quickly. However, he would still find himself usually leaving the table then less money then he started with. This was due to him always continuing on when he won, not because he couldn't stop, but he figured it was better to learn some tricks with his spare money since he would get it back when he was paid his cut.

Continuing this routine for several weeks before the family, what was left at least, would suffer another blow. Having continued the same route for years a raiding party would pinpoint their schedule. One cold winter night while the crew had left one of their stops, after several drinks I should add. They would be ambushed by the enemy ship. Quickly boarding the ship Oliver along with his father and crew would have little time to prepare before having to defend themselves. Although they put up a rough fight the enemies superior numbers would crush them. Killing over half of the crew, capturing the rest to sell into slavery or use for their own means.

Having been knocked out Oliver would wake up in the bow of a ship. Chained up along with several other slaves. Quickly figuring out that he was sold into slavery Oliver, being rather skilled, would be sold of as a slave. His first owner would force him to work glass. However, this would only last for roughly two months after which his owner would die and his son would inherit all his slaves. Seeing no use for them he would resale Oliver along with the rest. Currently Oliver is still in the process of begin sold.

Lores

Religion: Ovek - Although Oliver is not really a religious type of guy he does find himself asking one particular one for help every now and then. This one would be known by the name of Ovek. While he doesn't pray or ask him for help 'normally'. After a long day of gambling (and most likely drinking) Oliver might find himself asking for luck in the next round or to win just, "One more time". At the same time while he doesn't 'worship' Ovek he does however know of him a bit and sometimes second guesses if he truly is real or not. Leading to a love-hate relationship depending on if Oliver is on a winning or losing streak at the moment.

Conditioned: Cold Weather - Growing up in the extreme cold of Mt. Skyinarta Oliver has learned how to travel, camp, survive, and even fight in the cold and snow. The frigid weather and hard to walk through snow does not effect Oliver as much as most. While a deep snow will slow him down he can navigate through the snow easier and even fight in a blizzard to some extent.
