If a single word were to be used to describe Sunberth, many would elect to utilize the term bitter. It is no secret that only a harsh and violent living awaits those who dare enter the city limits; yet there exist a handful of brave souls who aspire to bring something sweet to offset the bitterness. Nestled within the Castle Commons is a relatively humble establishment known as Whiteflame's Cider Mill. For generations, this family-owned brewery has dedicated itself to honing the craft of creating cider from local ingredients; and have gained quite the reputation in the process. In fact, their beverage is so coveted that every single watering hole in Sunberth proudly sells it!
Appearing as a simple, aging water mill on the edge of the Commons, Whiteflame's relies upon the river bisecting the city in order to brew its exceptional beverage. Year round, local berries are collected in order to produce the famed "Two Berry Cider"; which has been described as having a distinctly sweet flavor with just a hint of tartness. Depending upon the time of year, this "taste of Sunberth" undergoes a variety of changes as the local berries fluctuate in flavor. During the fall and winter months, the brew is at absolute sweetest. However, during winter in particular, spices are included to provide a warming sensation as it goes down. During the spring months, the brew is affected by the change of seasons by taking on a strong "musty" aroma. At this time, the cider is at its peak of tartness. As time moves into summer, the berries begin to sweeten again; resulting in a brew that is an inverse to the fall and winter product: distinctly tart with hint of sweetness.
Founded by a small family of Vantha several generations ago, Whiteflame's Cider Mill has been an icon within the city for as long as anyone can remember. Sunberthians, young and old, flock to the mill and local taverns in order to happily drain mug after mug of the Cider...and in those moments of sweet indulgence, they finally escape the bitterness of the city.
Name: Toryn Whiteflame
Race: Vantha
DoB: Spring 45, 446 AV (68 years old)
PoB: Avanthal
Title: Owner of Whiteflame's Cider Mill
Skills: Brewing (54), Foraging (38), Organization (37)
Gnosis: None
Additional Info: Toryn was but a lad when he and his family made the relocation to Sunberth several decades ago. While he cannot recall the exact circumstances as to why his family departed from their home in Avanthal, he can clearly recall that his early life revolved around the Cider Mill upon its founding. Since childhood, Toryn has studied the art of creating exceptional cider from his father; and has taken it upon himself to pass down this information to his granddaughter. She, unlike his sons who chose a life on the seas over the life of a brewer, is the perfect successor in his eyes; and as such he has taught her everything he knows. To date, Toryn has developed a friendship with most of the tavern owners within the city; and even a re-pore with the various gangs. All desire to indulge in his wares and he is more than happy to oblige...provided that they have the coin of course. Jovial, dedicated, and (above all) intelligence, Toryn is a savvy business owner who has seen his small business flourish; and aims to continue this trend until the day of his eventual passing.
Name: Mishla Whiteflame
Race: Vantha
DoB: Winter 17, 495 AV (19 years old)
PoB: Avanthal
Title: Co-Owner of Whiteflame's Cider Mill
Skills: Brewing (32), Foraging (46), Organization (27)
Gnosis: None
Additional Info: Ever since she was a little girl, Mishla has adored spending time around her grandparents. Her grandmother would oftentimes take her into the northern woods in order to pick berries whilst her grandfather would show her all around the mill. These cherished memories inspired Mishla to root her future in the Cider Mill; and in time she managed to become the official successor to the business. Although she is not as experienced as the man who taught her everything about the trade, Mishla is constantly learning. Each day brings about a new opportunity to learn something new; whether it be about the business directly or life in general. However, no matter what challenges are sent her way, Mishla weathers them all with a brave smile on her face. Tenacious to the core, Mishla is determined to see the Cider Mill succeed when she takes ownership; yet cherishes each and every day she has left with her aging grandfather.
