The day began fresh, and the air was absolutely lovely and pristine. Indeed it was incredibly soothing although the temperature was cold. Though that mattered very little in this case. The winds blew rather subtly; not causing very many disturbances in the wind. It'd blown about elegantly and so softly; so quietly and in such a calming manner. Holland steps out of his Tent rather slowly, before relinquishing a yawn from his lips. Before looking about the vicinity, and not even bothering to speak. Holland was hungry, and his rumbling stomach was a tell tale sign of such a thing. As the male looks about the vicinity he begins to make note of small things. Tracks, and tracks of different sizes and shapes; Tracks that appeared to have no toes on the left side. Then on the right side he saw small paw prints in the snow; Indicating the presence of nearby Animals. Although in his line of sight currently none were visible, so they must've been older then they appeared to be. He was making simplistic observations and could attempt no more. Therefore he went back inside of his large tent. In order to pack a fresh back-pack full of what he would need to go hunting for the day. He'd packed a small snare, a map of the cobalt mountains and it's various locations, A compass in order to tell himself where he was going on the map, A simplistic builders kit which included saws and multiple nails and so on and so forth, and last but not least he carried his treasured Rapier. He'd never go unarmed, and therefore he went ahead and grasped hold of his back and breast armor. Throwing on atop his royal blue cloth shirt which wrapped tight and hugged at the wrists. Already having had on his boots, and being ready to leave. Now he walks outside of the Tent, and over to Declan; Declan gives a neigh in response to his presence. Now, Holland begins to throw the tack equipment on the horse. Firstly he'd thrown on the saddle pad over the horses back. Lining up the center of the saddle pad with the spinal cordage of the horse. Before picking up the saddle itself and beginning to move with a swinging motion. Before setting it down atop the saddle pad, and letting it come to rest; Before releasing it. Straightening out the saddle pad and the saddle itself. Now he begins to tighten it slightly, and fix it up on the horse so that it doesn't fall off. Strapping it on tightly, and not too tightly to give Declan a bit of comfort. Making sure that he leaves the breast collar slightly loose off of the horse. So that it doesn't restrict the movement of Declan nor make him uncomfortable.

Now he proceeds to climb atop the horse immediately. Placing his foot in the first holster and pushing himself upward. Throwing out his right leg over so that he can fully sit atop the saddle. Before his right foot enters the opposing holster for feet. Grasping old of the simplistic and thin strap which was held within the oral cavity of the horse. As he begins to flick his wrists whipping it and signaling for Declan to proceed moving forward. Although he only wanted to move at a slow pace, the snow crunches beneath declans feet. Declan neighs and begins to walk slowly; Whilst Holland looks around in search of prey. In this case he would have to act as if he were a predator. He would have to focus and focus quite hard. Regardless of what happens; If he fails then he will go hungry, and if he succeeds then he will eat a hearty lovely meal. So his ultimate goal here would be to succeed and not to fail at all in the least bit. Today was a rather cold and less windy day; Therefore his chances of success were increased. All he knew about hunting was that animals that enjoyed the cold grazed in the cold. Now all he would have to do was find the animal in order to capture it and eat it. He takes the path way following the prints in the snow that appeared to have had no toes, and were much larger. Perhaps it was a larger prey that he would be tracking in this case; Although he was but a mere novice in terms of tracking. Navigating was even more troublesome then simple tracking. He removes the compass from the right pocket in the backpack he carried ; and begun to notice what occurs as he moves forth into the Woods. The needle turns as he changes directions. Currently it says that he is moving toward N, which had to have meant North. Therefore he would attempt to keep in this direction so that he could get back properly. Due to the fact that if he were to use this compass to make his way back; Obviously the way back had to be the S which represented south. He smiles and continues moving forward into the Woods; Watching closely. Listening and trying to pay attention in order to pinpoint where the Animal was. This was no more then simple hunting, it couldn't possibly be that difficult right? The answer to that question would only come in due time.

Holland begins to strategically think for a moment here; Why would I chase down something I probably cannot catch? Why not make something so that it is stricken and when it is stricken it dies? Therefore he decided upon pulling back the thins trap that was upheld by the mouth of the horse, and hop off of it's saddle momentarily. He'd immediately proceeded to call Declan to come along with him, and walk forward off into the woods. Removing the saw from his very well organized back pack with ease. Not even bothering to have tried to go out of his way to make something complex. After all, the branches of trees would certainly work for a trap like this one, something simple was always more effective. Now he attempts to figure out exactly what he could use to make the trap with. He looks around before stumbling upon a series of Trees that interlocked branches. Yet none of them were quite that tall. He simply grasped hold of one of the multitude of branches. These plants were living, breathing and were alive the feel of the branch was unique. Rough, and rugged and yet so flexible; The branches were odd. He pulled one of them back rather hard, and it bent all the way back into the shaft of the Tree itself. That is something strange, and yet so new and quite odd. Therefore he releases it and notices how harsh the snap of the branch back into place was. A smile formed about his lips revealing his pearly white teeth. He knew now that he'd discovered exactly what he needed to make the trap. This series of branches would be more then enough to bring down a large Animal when prepared. All he would have to do is chase the animal down into this path. Then the violent onslaught will begin and the Animal will fall! Now he proceeds to tear down multiple vines of various lengths, gathering them up upon his forearm. Not even knowing much about the vines other then the fact that they were thick, Hardy, and strong. Hopefully they would hold themselves in place when whatever beast came by ran into them. Without even bothering to be overly complex; He'd begun making the trap. Placing the vines down upon the ground and repeating the process. He would pull back each and every little branch that he could gather. Tying the vine to it and pulling back the branch as far as it could potentially go. Yet, he never managed to snap it at all in the least bit.. Before he proceeds to go on and wrap the remaining length of the vine around another Tree directly across from the first one. So that the length of the vine remained stiff and in place for tripping. Now he moves on to the next set of Trees, doing the exact same thing over, and over, and over again. Now he has three Trees with tight vines coiled about them and branches ready to snap and unleash the moment something causes the vines to move. Now he goes on in a different area approximately thirty feet away from the aforementioned trap. Sawing out large sections of Trees by hand; His right arm ached and burned. He hadn't the endurance to continuously do this for too long; So he cut out square shaped sections of the Trees using the saw. They were rather thin though, only Two inches thick and yet they weren't flimsy.. He figured that if the branches didn't work he needed a second option. So he removes from his backpack the builders kit. Noticing the various sizes and shapes of the nails within it. He picked the longest length nails in the bunch and turned over the wooden cut outs. Before he looked at a rather heavy object which was inside the kit. An object with a wooden shaft and what appeared to be a heavy metal head. For slamming something into something; This was a Hammer!

Now he proceeds to stick the tips of each and every nail ( Approximately six ) Nails into both of the wooden planks. Before hammering away at the nails feverishly. Attempting to drive the nails through the thick pieces of wood; He succeeds for the first two times. Yet, on the third nail of the first piece of wood he brings down the hammer atop the flesh between his thumb and finger. It did very well hurt, although it left no tell tale signs of a bruise.. He had to be more careful about what he did with it. Lesson learned : Hammers hurt when they strike you. Now he proceeds to attempt being more careful and strike the nails directly atop the head. Now finally the third nail was driven into both the planks of wood. He needed a way to conceal the nails; Keep them from being seen. He noticed that nothing else was around for him to use in order to hide the Nails with. Other then the white snow that lay in between the traps; So he thought why not? He begins to use his hands and dig through the snow for three inches. Before shoving he wood planks down into the small areas. Then covering them up with snow.. He'd noticed that new tracks that he hadn't before seen were also about the area.. Both sets of tracks, multiple sets of one track which had pawed feet. So evidently both the larger and the smaller animal were indeed present. Now the question would be; Where were they?

There it was, Finally he'd spotted it! This animal looked like it had been almost covered in snow at a distance. Yet, he came to realize rather quickly that it was simply grazing. The thing was huge, and yet oh so beautiful; Even the Antlers were a beautiful sight to have seen. The brown and thick fur it had on it's body, too were a bonus. That thing would make an excellent Dinner for the night! As crazily hungry as Holland was he wouldn't mind fattening his gut with the meat of this sort of Animal. Now he proceeds to immediately hide himself away from the sight of the Animal. As he begun to look out through a bush at it's feet; Yes, indeed this was it. This was the Animal that had a lack for toes. The Animal that he'd spent all of this time tracking and preparing for. Hopefully the trap would work effectively; Now all he could do was wait for the opportunity to come knocking. He watched the very gorgeous animal move it's head downward; Eating some of the plants that had been located there. It seemed to have liked the near frozen grasses that lay upon the ground. Just barely sticking out from beneath the blanket of snow. Which covered the majority of each and every little section of the ground below. He watched as it turned about and was practically off guard. Making sure that he was being stealthy enough not to be heard. He proceeds to crawl over toward Declan, and mount the Horse all over Again. Climbing atop the saddle whilst he leans forward grasping hold of the thin strap upheld by the horses mouth. Now he gives a quick tug and flick of his wrist. Giving Declan the command to take off as fast as he possibly could toward the Animal. "Hyah! Go!" He'd exclaimed at the top of his lungs, Leaving the Deer to begin charging off into an oval shaped motion. Rushing off through the woods rather swiftly, and Declan bolted after the dear fearlessly. Although Holland was barely able to maintain control of himself as he'd been atop the saddle riding. Leaning forth to attempt to gain some sort of stability with riding the horse. He didn't exactly know how to hold on to a Horse just yet; That didn't mean he wouldn't try though! Now they rode like the wind after the Animal, and he watched as the small tail moved about whilst it ran away. Retreating from the horse and it's rider the Animal grew to become more and more skittish. Although the look on Hollands face was one of determination; Never give up when you want to achieve something! Thought Holland to himself. The Deer made a sudden and sharp turn that Holland wasn't quite expecting. He was pushing Declan to it's limits, and turned the strap harshly; Telling declan to turn as well. Charging off after the Deer as it headed directly down the path way it was intended to run down.

Now he'd pulled back the strap rather hard, So that Declan would stop; otherwise he would probably be in the same situation the deer was in. The Animal continued to bolt off into the path. Practically running over the ineffective trap of Holland; Yet it'd made one mistake. After the first branch missed it's cranial structure it didn't bother jumping over the second object. The wooden object with multiple nails sticking up out of it from the ground.. It slammed it's back hooves directly atop the nails. Now the nails were being driven through the feet of the Animal, and it practically stopped in it's tracks, and tripped over the second of the Vines. Before proceeding to be sent flying up into the air. Only a mere foot and a half but that would be more then enough. Suddenly it's ribcage slammed directly in to the second wood plank. As it fell and slid across the snow into the third vine and finally the Animal came to a stop. With both foreign objects skewering it's embodiment. Although the vines themselves were an utter failure; At least he got the animal pinned down.

Holland stood by and watched the events unfold. He witnessed each and every moment of the tragic scene. He'd seen the Animal be skewered by the nails that were in the small plank. He watched as it was impaled by the nails as well; Onlooking without a slight hint of remorse in the least bit. Watching as the crimson bodily fluid leaked from the mouth of the Animal. His eyes widened for a moment, and yet he could clearly see that the animal wasn't quite yet dead. It was much rather waiting to die, and so he decided that he would leap off of Declan for now. Waltzing over to the Animal immediately, and being very well unable to recognize it. Although all he could see for now was it's brown fur and elongated antlers. He looked down at it and examined it's body.. This was evidently a Venison. One of the much larger of the group as well. He noticed the eyes of the Animal still watching his each and every move. Although the body will have been taken and used for a good purpose. It wouldn't matter how the body was brought back over to town; As long as it was indeed brought over. He would sell the entire body of the large 180 Lb venison for a fairly decent amount of Mizas. At this very moment he was practically flat out broke. So broke that it was absolutely insane; He couldn't even afford anything he wanted to actually purchase. This deer being killed by him was merely a coincidence. Now he was actually glad to have gone ahead and followed the tracks which had the prints of hooves and not paws. He was unable to tell rather or not the opposing set of tracks was a wolf; Or a rabbit. Now he begins his long slow journey, of having to use declan to drag the kill all the way back to The Butcher.. Which would take approximately three days.

[ The Bronze Woods ] Trial and Error

Hello Holland. It has come to my attention that you have several, serious issues regarding this hunting thread and its following rewards. They are as follows:

1. Let me make this clearer: if you have zero points in tracking, hunting, trapping, horsemanship and horse riding (yes, those are two different things), your PC has not learned them. Meaning, he doesn't know how to track an animal for prolonged periods through the woods, let alone on the back of a horse that he doesn't know how to ride. I'll put it this way. Think of someone you know who's never been out in the woods, except maybe once a camping trip with their family, and definitely doesn't know how to ride a horse. Now imagine that person being in a medieval forest, in the middle of Winter surrounded by snow, holding the reigns of a horse they do not know how to ride or even handle, period. They know zero forms of weaponry/self defense. They do not know what a hoof print even looks like. Realistically, what are the odds of this person being able to make a trap purely out of vines, branches, and nails and somehow kill a 180lb deer?

And why is it still 180lbs? If I haven't made myself clear enough I will restate: you will not be able to earn anything remotely within the hundreds of GM for venison due to sheer lack of skill. If you want to earn big bucks hunting, become a hunter. Acquire the skills needed, and then apply for a job as one. You will also not be able to drag a 180lb deer back to the city. Meat rots within hours. Even in Winter, expecting fresh meat to stay edible after 3 days is absolutely out of the question.

Pre-revision archived below:
Secret :
You have zero skill points in Hunting, Tracking, Trapping, and Horse Riding. Playing above your skill level is strictly forbidden. Therefore, you need to rewrite each of these actions according to your proficiency, which in this case is nil. You also have 26 points in Reimancy but only 9 in Wilderness Survival. 9 points does not mean you can easily survive in the wild. At best, it allows you to build a fire and maybe last a bell or two on your own. Coupled with the fact that it is Winter, going out to hunt large game on his own would more likely equal death for Holland than anything else.

2. Since I've already stated the total lack of feasibility with zero points in trapping above, here is a new problem: if I am understanding this correctly, Holland has set up his tent out in the Bronze Woods? Even though it states in his CS"he is in stormhold castle and traveling back and forth between residential areas." You have enough points to stay in a chosen environment for up to 7 days, but it is still very dangerous during Winter. Everything is when Morwen arrives. Even experienced hunters and travelers know to stay behind city walls with a roof over their heads in Winter. Which also means, should Holland want to leave the city and travel to the woods, it would be an arduous event all on its own. It's cold, it's not a short distance, and oh, let's not forget, 0 points in horse riding.

Pre-revision archived below:
Secret :
This is not Minecraft. You cannot just saw off branches and magically turn them into planks. On top of having no skills in Carpentry to do this realistically at all in the first place, taking down a 180lb deer/elk with some nails driven into branches is not only impossible, it fails to even make sense. How do 6 nails manage to kill a towering, four legged beast? At most it might wound them and cause them to bleed or inflict them with something akin to Tetanus, but unless a giant nail goes straight through its head/heart or cuts its life vein, they cannot and will not kill game that easily. And even if the nails did somehow manage to kill game through more realistic means, Holland would either have to have masterful placement of spiky branches or be graced by the great fortune of a freak accident, neither of which are going to happen at this point in time.

3. If you purchase items, they need to be reflected in both your ledger and your inventory. When any items are bought, acquired, lost, broken, etc. that needs to be updated directly in your inventory.

4. There is no indication in your CS that you have a horse. Yes, you get one with the starting package and you mention it in your Housing section, but you need to include it and its breed in your inventory as well. It makes things less confusing for future graders and ST's. And why have a horse but no skill points in riding? You haven't reached 50 posts so you're still able to remedy this. But I urge you to do it quickly--after 50 your core CS is barred from being altered.

5. All players are encouraged write primarily in past tense third person. There are exceptions, but this is so that threads can be more cohesive and easier to read. Graders are informed of this specific issue in the Grading Guide. Not to mention it is just common courtesy to make your writing as easy to read as possible for partners and graders alike.

6. Something can't be "evidently Venison." It's a deer or it isn't. Venison refers to the meat of a game animal, a.k.a. deer and anything like a deer. Just like beef does for cows and pork for pigs.

7. For what I hope to be the final time: There is no feasible way for Holland, his horse, and non-existent body building/horse riding skills to lug a 180lbs deer all the way back from the Bronze Woods to the City in the middle of Winter. There just isn't. It's not going to happen.

Pre-revision archived below:
Secret :
8. Earning 540 GM from 1 deer acquired by over playing one's skills is not going to fly. Not only were the methods of acquisition not acceptable to begin with, 540 is a massive amount of mizas. Which means at the very least, ignoring all other issues of supply and demand, either a massive amount of work must be put into earning this hefty compensation or very high skill levels should be directly involved. Mizahar strives not only for uniqueness and creativity, but balance and realism as well. This goes against both of the latter and will not be permitted.

In closing: If you fix these issues in your thread, PM me once you have so that I can confirm before removing this intervention. Otherwise this thread cannot be graded and you will not receive any loot from it. Meanwhile, you are to take down your post here as well concerning the selling of the venison until we have finished sorting this out and remove those 540 GM from your ledger.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask me.
