Broken Thievery (Velvet)

"The Konti are fascinating," Trista replied. "Rather like a human, but with pale hair and scales, and those eyes! They have gills too, although it's not necessarily the first thing you notice."

The background was nearly finished now, and Trista was filling in the small portion of sky that was visible at the top of the drawing. She used only a few strokes, being more interested in not just leaving that space entirely blank than in filling it in completely.

"I can't even imagine trying to be an investigator here," she agreed. More than once since coming to Alvadas, she'd been grateful that she could fly, which at least gave her a sporting chance at finding where she was trying to go (most of the time, that is). "Although I suppose someone must do it." She shrugged lightly. "In Abura, we didn't really have much call for that sort of thing, but I think most other places are...less peaceful, you could say."

The drawing was essentially done now, and so Trista put her pencil down. "Do you want to see it?"

Vel listened to her talking intently, not knowing what else to say. Trista eventually was done after a few strokes with her pencil, asking her if she wanted to see it. Of course she wanted to see it! She got down the chair with perhaps more force than needed, almost knocking it down. She moved towards the stand, looking at the picture. “Do I really..” The words were let out of her mouth softly, taking in how odd she looked. She knew she looked odd, but here, those features seemed almost pop out of the page.

"You're good at drawing." She said, looking at the thing with awe. "Do I keep it, or..?" Thoughts about stealing were forgotten for a few moments, as she looked at the drawing again.

Truth be told, Trista hadn't exactly decided what she was going to do with the picture. However, when Vel asked her, she impulsively replied, "Go ahead and keep it."

This sort of thing was why Trista never had any money, but it was very much in keeping with her personality. She wasn't necessarily planning on keeping this picture, and if Vel was interested in it, it might be better to just give it to her rather than sell it to a stranger in the Bizarre.

She didn't answer the other girl's first, half-formed questions, as she didn't really know how to. Vel was a bit of an odd one, but Trista certainly wouldn't say she was ugly or unpleasant to look at. The Akvatari wasn't very good at offering consoling words along those lines, however, especially to someone she didn't really know that well.

"Anyway, if you want to go, you're welcome to," Trista added. Regardless of what Vel might have suspected, Trista didn't have any interest in turning her in -- that much was genuine. "Just try to keep out of trouble. I don't know that you'll get lucky twice."

With the last bits of Trista`s words, particularly ìf you want to go, you`re welcome to` was when she looked to the streets, ready to dash off. The picture was good, but stealing was better in general. The second sentence she didn`t really care about, considering she got almost in trouble everyday. There was no such thing as not getting in trouble when you were a thief.

Thank Ionu for bringing her to Trista and not some rich kid that would send her to the Womiyu. She uttered a quick thanks to Trista, then quickly dashed off to the streets, folding the drawing into her pocket and going back to her usual schedule: stealing, stealing and more stealing.

Trista's eyes followed Vel until the other woman was completely out of sight. What a strange interlude this had been. Vel seemed relatively harmless, but Trista had a sinking suspicion that her words of caution were likely to go unheeded. Perhaps she would see her again and find out for sure, but Mizahar was a strange place that way.

With a sigh, directed at no one but herself, Trista put the partially-completed drawing of the storefront back on her easel. Time to go back to work.
