The thread succeeds or fails based solely on the words you write. Rarely have I read a solo thread – or, to be honest, any thread -- that’s as much of a success as this one.
Philomena is one of my all-time favorite PCs, partly because of the depth, complexity, and consistency of her backstory, and partly because she’s brilliant at taking the Mizahar lore and incorporating it into her posts, really making it her own in the process. This thread is an excellent example of both characteristics. Philomena makes detailed and poignant references to her PC’s history, and also presents an unforgettable moment that encapsulates what Akvatari culture is really all about – no mean feat, given that it’s written entirely from the perspective of a cultural outsider.
I also love the fact that Philomena’s posts often contain snatches of poetry, which fits well with the PC’s interests and past. The poetry in this thread is remarkably good in and of itself, and in the context of the thread, it’s moving and thrilling and eerie all at once.
This isn’t a long thread as these things go, but it’s more than worth a read. Maybe you’ll end up reading all of Philomena’s posts too!
