1.) This is not a Request Thread! It is a listing of the needs of each domain made available for the convenience of Graders and Staff members.

2.) I will not be providing direct links to those threads in need of grading as that would defeat the purpose of having request threads in every domain. I will however provide links to the request threads themselves.

3.) Graders who notice domains that are in need of attention feel free to make an announcement here if you so choose!

Global Grading Status

Postby Keene Ward on April 6th, 2015, 10:11 pm

Hey there everyone! So I was notified that I should also post this in here so everyone, including graders, can read it! Sorry for the double post if you've already read the PM. ;)

So, first off, I want to thank all of you who have taken time out of your lives to help out the community by reading and grading all of these threads! We got a ton done this weekend, and hopefully we'll all continue doing so!

With the influx of grades, I've noticed a pattern that I think is something worth addressing, so I'll just jump right into it.

When awarding experience, especially novice experience, you do so for the action that warrants it. There can be no more than five points per post and only rarely will there ever be more than one point per skill per post in any given thread. However, one point per skill per post is not one point per action. I think this is a very important distinction that may be presenting itself.

I'll explain this in more of an allegory so it makes more sense instead of just semantics: Let's say Carl is an unarmed fighter sparring with his lovely partner Hilda. These two have sexual tension up the wazoo. Carl's writer adds in several details in his sentences, outlining not only the punches he's making, but in the same sentence describing both the effort he's putting into them as well as the strain it's taking on his body. He describes dodges, flexibility, and has a running train of thought on how he's going to maneuver to best Hilda's efforts. Hilda's writer, on the other hand, clearly describes the punches and kicks without much given for the others, though she does describe a narrow dodge before pulling him in and licking her lips lasciviously.
-In this instance, Carl should be awarded (assuming he's around competent in these skills): endurance, acrobatics, unarmed combat, and tactics. Depending on how he's written it, there could also be planning, observation, socialization, rhetoric, flirting, seduction, and more. This can be done and achieved within a single paragraph.
-In Hilda's case, she probably only qualifies for: unarmed combat, acrobatics, and flirting/seduction depending on how it's described.

Another thing that's important that I think might be being over looked is the "student/teacher" experience. If you're novice in a skill that isn't purely physical or practical (the grading guide lists hunting or weapons skills for this), you can gain experience simply by being taught. This experience will never bump a character into competent, but it can certainly get them to 25 with the caveat that they're paying attention and internalizing what's being said. This is extremely important for disciplines like world magics and theory based skills such as philosophy or tactics.

An example of this would be if someone is teaching another person about spiritism. While they would be obtaining all the relevant lores of the exchange, they would also be gaining points in spiritism, as the magic itself is more of a highly specialized form of negotiation and persuasion with ritual added in. This is, of course, ultimately up to the grader on whether they feel the PC is actually learning anything or is merely being spoken at, but it's something I just wanted to bring to people's attention.

One of the major things I've noticed in the discrepancy between graders is typically the "post/word count to experience" ratios. While not all seven post 900ish word count threads are going to get a +5 in several skills, four instances of one skill is also a little bit questionable. I'm definitely not saying this can't be the case (I've certainly graded some pretty long threads that didn't do anything but get their +5 Observation and Socialization), but it should be something you should think about. If you get to the end of a pretty lengthy thread and see that you've only awarded a total of three experience, skim back over what you read. There's a good chance you missed something.

All of us are players. We all know the amount of time and work it takes into writing up a thread (and if any of you have done any grinding, you know exactly how much work and time it takes to write something you loathe but want the competency in. *cough*shielding*cough*), and so for that reason, we should be constantly criticizing our grades and appraising them to make sure we're properly rewarding people for the work and time they've put in.

From personal opinion, nothing sucks more than taking the time to painstakingly make sure you've written in a solid five points in a skill only to receive two points and a random "child care +1". I'll leave this little tidbit an ST gave me to consider in tandem with the various skill competency limits and abilities on the skill pages, as I find it to be really helpful in determining if an action (especially the ones I'm on the edge about) should be awarded experience.

Competent is the expansion of one's understanding and the practical application of the skill. The building from just grasping fundamentals to actually using them.
Expert is the refining of technique. The manipulating of subtle aspects.
Master is full on pushing every boundary.

So, I hope this didn't read as "You all suck, get better!" and was more of a "Here's some stuff I've seen that we can work on." Grading is a lot of work. Sometimes, depending on the thread you're reading, it may even be more work than the person put into writing it. :retard: But we definitely want to make sure we're doing the best we can to accurately represent the efforts of the players in their rewards, consequences, and sweet delicious lores.

Again, thank you all for volunteering for this (at times) taxing but exciting position! I'm very glad to be able to not only write with all of you, but to read and enjoy threads I'd never have picked up along side you as well!

And that's all I have to say about that.

Global Grading Status

Postby Sayana on August 8th, 2015, 2:23 pm

Hello everyone. I was looking in on the various Grade Request threads and thought I'd prepare a little summary of the current outstanding threads to be graded. This is just meant to be a quick glance (not a thorough overview of current moderators and everything else). I've listed both the number of outstanding grades for each city as well as the date of the next request in line. So those who like grading based on date, this should help. I apologize in advance if I made any errors but this should help pinpoint the cities in need.

Region City Thread Count Date of next request in line
Sylira Nyka 26 February 3 2015
Ravok 13 June 5 2015
Sahova 15 July 4 2015
Sunberth 24 June 4 2015
Syliras 45 June 18 2015
Zeltiva 40 May 27 2015
Mura 0
Abura 1 June 14 2015
Cyphrus Endrykas 14 June 20 2015
Kenash 20 July 5 2015
Riverfall 20 June 12 2015
Falyndar Region 15 July 28 2015
Kalea Alvadas 4 June 9 2015
Denval 0
Sultros 0
Kalinor 0
Lhavit 8 July 8 2015
Wind Reach 7 April 19 2015

Edit: In regards to Keene's question, these counts/dates do not include threads that are graded but are not deleted. These are only for threads that need to be graded.

Note, Nyka has some that were graded for one character a long time ago (due to abandonment / lack of seasonal expenses) and then were resubmitted by the second character to get grades for the second character. I do not know the status of the second character's CS at this point.

Just a quick question, are these including the requests graded and not deleted or the next one that hasn't been done?

Never mind! I went and check for myself instead of being Captain Lazy haha. Thanks Sayana!

Quick Note To Graders:

Do not grade players who do not track their XP in their CS's. This has always been in the rules of Mizahar. And I've been finding a lot of dependencies from what players have listed to what I can find they've actually earned (even in the players CS's who have tracked their XP). I don't know why people think this is OKAY, but to me its shameful. Cheating at a writing game? Sad.

Anyhow, don't give any more XP to players who haven't gotten updated CS's and CS's that have XP tracked easily. By tracked I mean if they have 20 XP in a skill, say Sword, I want to see where those 20 XP came from in a thread list or in some way that is easy to understand. It should only take you a minute or two in order to see who's tracking awards and who isn't. If they aren't do not grade them! Send them a pm though and tell them why they weren't graded.

I hate to be like this but its sad and ridiculous that people are not tracking this.

If I catch graders ignoring this policy and grading anyhow, I'll remove grading status. I hate to do this, but we have all these players now in cities that have ST's so theoretically their grades will get done faster now that they have leadership in their cities.

Feel free to post any questions.

Goss
