How visible is magic?

Postby Vequil Alieare on April 11th, 2015, 8:06 pm

I'll get straight to the point.

I'm wondering how visible certain magics are when utilized, since it doesn't really mention that aspect of the particular magics within the lorepage.

So the ask the actual question, is it noticable when a magic user uses either auristics, flux, or hypnotism? As in will the target and/or those within the immediate proximity realize that magic is being used at that particular point in time?

Currently I'm assuming that these three disciplines are unnoticeable to both the target and those within the immediate proximity, unless the target is a magic user himself.

Any supported answer would be appreciated. Thank you in advance :)

How visible is magic?

Those three magics you listed are among the subtlest forms of personal magic there are. I think it even says in the Hypnotism lore that it is one of the subtlest forms of magic there are.

If you are looking towards just 'sensing' magic, Ill like to direct you to the djed page. It has a little blurb on being able to sense magic. In short though, most people will not know if magic is being utilized, unless the effects are obvious and right in their face.Like reimancy, or if someone showed an intense amount of speed or strength with Flux. Or if the wizard starts overgiving (that is if people know what overgiving is O.o).

Auristics to the causal onlooker, especially in the beginning stages of learning and handling the magic, might look like intense concentration on the subject they are trying to read. Though that can be read many ways, and more advanced practitioners would be really hard to spot, Id think.

But yeah, those magics are highly 'in the head of the wizard/happening within the wizard'. They are not flashy (depending on how you use them) and most of them are not meant to be used in a flashy way because if found out, they can be less effective (IE auristics and hypnotism. Not so much for flux).
“Method is more important than strength, when you wish to control your enemies. By dropping golden beads near a snake, a crow once managed to have a passer-by kill the snake for the beads.” ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

There aren't going to be any giant sparkly beams of light or anything. Other than that, Rayage pretty much summed it up.
