This shining population center is considered the jewel of The Sylira Region. Home of the vast majority of Mizahar's population, Syliras is nestled in a quiet, sprawling valley on the shores of the Suvan Sea. [Lore]

An Intriguing Meeting (Gwendolen & Hrafn)

Postby Hrafn Alaric on November 21st, 2010, 8:33 am

Hrafn yawned as Mant entered. -"Well, you'll be sleeping there.", Hrafn said as he pointed to his right, a small area in which the area had been lowered. -"You oughta be able to fit a bedroll there and your personal belongings." Hrafn paused with his twinkling eyes and smiled; -" 'night night." he said as he crawled into his comfy little cot. "Come Peeloh!" he called and from the shelf a small clay-figure emerged. He was old, about 25 give or take. He crawled next to his companion in his cot and the two were sound asleep.

Grade Complete: XP Award!

Name: Mant Liknessa

XP Award
Observation- 1 XP
Negotiation- 1 XP
Organization- 1 XP

There wasn’t a lot of time spent on increasing skills, so I gave you a point in each of the things I noticed Mant doing unconsciously. He asked what Hrafnir could do for him- negotiation. He kept tabs on all the things going on around him, noticing even the soot in the shop- observation. He even packed all his things together in a way that he could easily carry them through the castle- organization.

Lore Award
Being Close-Mouthed
Walking Through a Crowded Hallway
Standing Up for a Girl

Ledger
+ 500 gold mizas

You start with 600 gold mizas if you do not have a permanent home- unless you would like Mant to purchase a room in the city.

Additional Note:
You need to update your equipment and ledger for all the personal belongings Mant carries with him. Please, also, see my note at the bottom of the page. It was a good introduction thread, though. It will give your character a way to interact with those around him and grow.

Name: Hrafn Alaric

XP Award
Organization- 1 XP
Negotiation- 1 XP

There wasn’t a lot of time spent on increasing skills, so I gave you a point or two in each of the things I noticed Hrafn doing unconsciously. He negotiated a way to get the two to work for him without being paid, and he organized the room in a way that allowed Mant to have his own personal space.

Lore Award
Finding Willing Workers
Stealing Someone Else’s Idea
No One Listens to Me

Additional Note:
Hrafn was a very interesting individual. I liked how he was easily manipulated, even though he thought he was in charge the whole time. It was a good introduction thread, overall. Please, though, see my note at the bottom of the page.

Name: Gwendolen Lawrence

XP Award
Intelligence- 1 XP
Negotiation- 2 XP

There wasn’t a lot of time spent on increasing skills, so I gave you a point or two in each of the things I noticed Gwendolen doing unconsciously. She convinced Hrafn to take them back to his place & she talked him into letting her stay at his place and work for him- negotiation. She also observed the things around the city and used them to negotiate- intelligence.

Lore Award
Making New Friends
Telling a Smith How To Do His Job
I Do What I Want

Additional Note:
I really enjoyed Gwen’s audacity. She knew what she wanted and just went for it. It was a good introduction thread, overall. Please, though, see my note at the bottom of the page. And you may want to change 'trading' on your CS to 'negotiation.' It is basically the same thing, but we have it in the skills list so you're more likely to get points in it.

Additional Note For All:
You probably didn’t know this, but it is often a good idea to read up on a city before you start writing there. It makes it a little easier on the people who are grading your threads. A good place to start is on the Syliras page. There are quite a few discrepancies between how the city is actually set up and how you describe it. I would suggest reading up on the area more thoroughly before continuing so you do not get type of note again. You can also look here for more details about locations in the city and such.

Here are some examples of the differences between the city you described and Syliras. You do not need to change your thread- just take note of these for future reference.

1. This thread would most likely take place on the Third Tier where the businesses and residential areas are. Because they are located inside a castle, there aren’t any alleys or streets- just hallways, and I doubt anyone would be allowed to sleep in the halls for days, even if they tried to hide from the city dwellers and Knights.
2. They would also not be able to see the sun shining or hear birds singing, as they are inside the building and have no access to windows, only ventilation shafts.
3. Shops do not have apartments above them. They are on a single level of a castle, and there is no ‘old market district.’
4. Hrafn most likely wouldn’t be able to live in his shop. Upon entering the city, he would have gone to the Housing Authority to start his business and purchase living quarters (they would look like this. He would also have to give a cut of his profits to the Knights because that is how businesses inside the castle run.
5. Jobs can be found at the Employment Office if Mant is looking to be a cook or any of the other characters wanted other work, as well.
6. The most well-known forge in Syliras is The Ironworks which is located outside the castle and is where most of the Knights get their weapons and armor so you wouldn’t get that business yourself. If you continued with the idea of running your own forge, you would have to create tools and/or household items for common residents (or other creative metalworks).
7. As for the living arrangements for Mant, he would most likely be staying at Traveler’s Row, which houses the people renting rooms for an unknown length of time. He would have his choice of simple or elegant, but none would be decrepit or located in a particularly ‘bad’ part of town, though it would be fine to say it isn’t up to his standards.
8. Gwen would probably have lodgings at an inn or also at Traveler’s Row.

Also, just a friendly tip- you do not need to put the timestamp on every single post, just the first.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to jump into chat! We’re always willing to talk to people and help. :)
I just started a new job where I occassionally work 12hour shifts (somehow?)- so please bear with me. I'll probably only be able to hardcore grade/be online on the weekends and other times I'll only get to about 1 thread per night. If there's anything that needs immediate attention, please PM me and I'll bump it up the list. Thanks in advance for the understanding. ^_^
