Appearance: Karl is a slender fellow with a bronzed skin and rosy cheeks. Not more than a head above the average man, Karl weighs a hundred and sixty pounds on a good day. On top, he keeps a messy wave of dark brown hair that tapers off to a loose brush. The iris of Karl's eyes glow a light blue that at times shimmers green. Not so hidden on Karl's left hand is a circle symbolizing The One.
Character ConceptKarl is a journeyman on a spiritual quest; deprived of purpose, he now seeks one in the realm of Mizahar. An old family friend took Karl in and trained him, teaching Karl how to use his hands, Djed, and silence to his advantage. The old man was found dead one day, and awarded Karl a great many of his possessions upon his death. Faced with opportunity, Karl decided to fulfill the man's last wish and explore.
Personally, Karl is dynamic. Intelligence was a gift bestowed upon him, and the discipline of his training has kept him well in tune with his mind. At the core of it, Karl is soft hearted and words slide off him; his care free attitude towards most things has gotten him in trouble at times. Karl is the type to cackle at a misfortune, even his own.
Confidence is Karl's vice, he foresees a fairly endless future for himself. Anything is within Karl's grasp in his mind. Despite this, Karl keeps mostly to himself about his pride, fearing that pride would make him appear weak. Instead, Karl would rather flip the tone of the conversation than discuss himself. Karl opening up about himself is a true show of trust towards that person.
Character HistoryKarl was born the last of a set of triplets, whom completed a family of nine. Karl's father was a simple man, a day laborer who made some 'side-dough' peddling goods that fell off of carts. Not a bad man truly, he never stole what wouldn't be taken anyway; but sadly one day Karl's father was caught, and thrown into the Syliran jail. Knowing that his father was doomed and that she had little means for wages herself, Karl's mother spread the children between her relatives.
Karl and his closest siblings ended up at his Aunt and Uncle's house in Zeltiva, their Karl grew to the age of nine. Karl became the sharpest of the bunch quick, with his sister, Vanessa, blossoming into a fine painter, and his brother, Norman, turning to sailing. Unbeknownst to Karl's mother, the guardians she imposed on her children were Wizards in hiding. Karl's keepers were anxious to send him for training for his obvious aptitude, but were wary because of his laziness and thought to send Norman instead, who was not as keen but truly gave his heart into everything he did. In the end, Karl's Aunt and Uncle sent Karl and choose to keep his siblings at home.
Karl was sent to live with an old family friend, who Karl had not yet been told practiced magic. It was boring mostly, with only meals and very little conversations. Whenever Karl would complain the old man would tell him to read books in the library, books with dense sentences that didn't make any sense to young Karl. Slowly, however, the old man began to reveal more of his worldview. The old man talked of God's in ways Karl had never heard of; he spoke of the universe as a necessary tug of war, good and evil were relative to the side one was one. Karl slowly learned and appreciated the old man, who so often kept himself. On his eleventh birthday Karl the old man was offered a right to choose. Being that Karl had lived with the man, had somewhat seen his ways, had lived differently than he had been, and was at an age where he understood desire, Karl was offered to proceed with what man called 'the sacred ritual' or to return home.
When Karl went through the sacred ritual he did three things: one, he gave his limb to The One, he himself branded a circle representing The One into his left hand; afterwards, he gave his love to The One, Karl killed his companion animal, a rabbit named Joyce, and to this day he keeps the rabbits foot with him; finally, Karl gave his life to The One, Karl spilt his blood into the pool of life, completing a bond that was to last a lifetime. On his eleventh birthday, Karl was renamed Mason by the old Wizard. The old man told the newly named Mason about The One: A spiritual path that viewed everything in the universe as a singular entity. From then on, Karl began training.
Training was fairly easy initially, Karl incidentally learned stealth with a game called Shockrod. On his third nameday (days marking the years since his renaming), the old man began to teach Karl combat, and on his fourth Karl choose his element of Reimancy. After a year of study, he was given Res and began to learn Pyromancy, studying intensely for three years. The last two years are more lax, as the old man tried to summarize Karl's training. Then, abruptly, the old man was found dead in his house by Karl, next to him lay a will to Karl giving him several possessions. Also listed on the will was the location of a contact of the old man, whom Karl was to meet. In an attempt to fulfill last wish of the old man, Karl headed to Lhavit.
