"See? I said it was better in Spring." Khara's voice barely pierced the comforting silence that had fallen between them, only enough effort put forth to convey the playful tone she wanted and make herself just barely heard over the chorus of Chakama birds. A satisfied smile played on her lips as she gently encouraged Zhol to move his arms around her just a bit tighter as she leaned back against him, doubting that her weight was pushing his back against the cherry tree to any great extent, but it was fun to think she was trapping him in a way - not that it was even remotely necessary.
She wasn't sure exactly when or why it was they had decided that a return visit to the Cherry Grove was needed, but she thanked whatever had lead them to it. It was still early enough in the season that the trees were still coated in their blossoms; yet already they prepared for the fruit that would follow as petals stirred and fell in the gentle breeze. When they had first arrived in the afternoon it had been beautiful, now however, it was entirely breathtaking. The way the setting sun played against the soft pinks of the Grove made the colors even more vibrant somehow and the sky overhead that could be seen through the practically glowing canopy was slowly turning colors that Khara didn't even have names for. The clouds that had lingered around Skyinarta during the day that the scout had suspiciously glanced at now served only to add to the brilliant display. She didn't know if it was Syna or Caiyha or Cheva or some other goddess or god that was to thank for it all, but Khara couldn't have been more grateful for that seemingly simple perfect moment.
The complete serenity the grove contained was a stark contrast to how Wind Reach had been as they had gathered their things from the stables and made to leave. Quakes weren't uncommon in the volcanic city, but it had been some time since there had been a noticeable one. It put everyone on edge, and the entire city had felt like it was on the verge of jumping at every subtle shift in the ground when Khara had arrived back after the early day's work. At first she had thought of suggesting they postpone the trip, but one look on Zhol's face as he tried to hide his unease was more than enough for Khara to agree to a night under the stars rather than the mountain.
She didn't doubt that he had experienced earthquakes since his time coming to Wind Reach, but having lived through a few and having grown up with them were two separate things. They still make Khara uneasy when they were big or frequent enough, ever mindful for exactly what Wind Reach was built into, so she could only imagine how they effected Zhol - even if se did seem more concerned about how the horses had reacted. A smirk formed on her lips at that thought and she snuggled against him.
A temptation, to tease about if Zhol should have really left all but one of his four legged friends behind at the stables came to her but refused to be spoken. The stillness in the air was too pristine to interrupt with such a thin and instead a contented sigh left her as she continued to watch Syna slip ever closer to the horizon.
