Asher Claveson A common man with uncommon goals. Appearance Date of Birth: Spring 20 492 Race: Human Gender: Male Profession: Hunter Fluent: Common Conversational: Nari Poor: Vani Asher is 6' with long brown hair, usually pulled back. He has a full beard, also brown. His eyes are a dark blue. Asher grew to be taller than both his parents, standing at a solid six feet, two inches taller than his father and seven inches taller than his mother. Despite his height, it is often remarked that he greatly resembles his father. His hair is the same shade of brown, his eyes the same dark blue. Even his nose is as straight and narrow as his father's. One quality he does lack that his father had is muscle definition; he does work hard in training, but he's not nearly as bulky as his father. It does mean he's not as slow, but it makes little difference with his lack of experience. Personality Likes: Stories, Archery Dislikes: Gambling, Astrology Ethics: Neutral good Asher is distant at first, but once he understands enough of another's personality, he will be more friendly and open. Due to recently losing his wife, he's suffering from depression. There was a time when Asher's optimism was the forefront of his personality. Indeed, a smile still rests on his face most of the time. But what the smile masks is the growing depression within due to the loss of his Inarta wife, Meyarra. Ever since the Djed Storm of 512, Asher has lost what he considers his future and has a difficult time seeing what good can come for him. He does not wish to burden anyone with his troubles, however, and keeps up appearances by presenting a smile to those he interacts with. And really, it's difficult to tell he has depression due to his friendly demeanor. Some may think him distant at first, but this is due to his desire to understand the person before attempting to interact meaningfully. Once he has a grasp of who the person is, he is willing to hold conversation with them and share experiences with them. Many who know him by name agree that he is a kind soul, desiring to help those he meets, and never expecting help for himself. History Asher was raised to ready himself for Syliran Knighthood, to follow his father's footsteps, but he discovered how unfit he was for the job. This, coupled with the death of his wife Meyarra, has left him doubting his future. Asher was born to Bethany Borsdottir and Clave Anderson. While his mother spent her time tending to the house and him, his father was away often on patrol as a Syliran Knight. It was expected that Asher follow in his father's footsteps, and he was excited to do so. Nothing compared to the idea of doing just as his father did. Despite his enthusiasm, when the time came for squirehood, it was clear Asher was not fit to become a knight. The discipline required often left him disheartened, and he felt rather trapped by the demands made on his time and energy. While his father was disappointed and reminded Asher frequently, his mother was understanding and taught him what she could of her skills: she showed him how to cook basic food, how to hunt for the food he'd make, and taught him a Vani song she learned from a friend that told the story of a woman making a feast. She continued to teach him these things until she had been taken by an illness in the Spring of 509. It wasn't until he met an Inarta girl by the name of Meyarra that he was able to find worth in his skills. Meyarra was blunt, straightforward, and unable to take any sort of injustice. She spoke her mind, and would often rant in Nari if she thought someone was being especially stupid. Asher was fascinated by her strength of will, often wishing that he could be half as bold as she. He settled instead with spending time with her, learning her language so he could shorten her rants with calming words, and accepting her informal lessons in archery. It wsan't long after he reached adulthood that he resolved to ask to marry her, the woman he fell in love with. It all seemed to be going so well, until the Djed Storm of 512 rolled through Syliras. In the midst of the chaos of running into the caves, Asher lost sight of Meyarra. It only took a second, but Asher has never found her since. He couldn't even find a body to bury, which disturbed him the most. He lost his wife, his home, and practically his whole future. He had no idea what to do with himself, if he wished to continue at all. It wasn't until he went through the bag Meyarra handed him as they had evacuated to the catacombs that he found her journal, what she preferred calling a "book of letters". She had mentioned that eventually, it would be full of love letter to him. Desperate to hear her words again, Asher knows he must find someone to either help him learn to read Nari or translate her words for him. |
