Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

David Arnim sat within his humble abode eating some dried meat and of course washing it down with some water. As he did so he stared at the practice dummy he had bought and thought. He had recently bought the practice dummy for training purposes but somthing felt empty about it. It wasn't like sparing against another person, not as thrilling and no way as helpful as it. All he was doing was imagining it to be his enemy and hitting it real hard with his sword. He smirked at the thought of how silly he must look when training with it. David had heard of Kendoka Sasaran a armed combat school in which people spared and taught one another how to fight. Even back in Avanthal he rarely if ever got to spar against anyone ever since his father had disappeared."Well... I do have the day off... might as well check it out." David reasoned with himself before getting up from his sitting position on the bed. So now up out of bed he decided to get his exercises out of the way first. Getting the blood flowing should help him concentrate he reasoned just like with his apprenticeship. Or it could make him tired and easier for others to hit. Ether way he was learning somthing.

You can skip reading this part, it is just me getting David's daily exercises out of the way

So walking up under the ceiling beam of his cottage David jumped up and after a couple of tries grabbed onto it. He then proceeded to begin doing the typical pull ups slowing pulling himself up counting as he got his chin over the beam. He would then let himself down a little to quick as usual. David proceeded to do this for some time until he was satisfied and his arms burned. After that David would start doing jumping jacks is a tad clumsy way. His positions not the best as he counted each time his hands came together. Working up a sweat he drank some water and finished before he began doing squats. David would go up and down counting each one like the other times up until his legs really started to feel the burn. The burn was good however as it hopefully meant the exercises were doing their job. Another thing David was doing was comparing the counts to previous counts to see how he was doing and so far he was rather even with previous times. Once done with the squats David got onto the ground and onto his back tucking his legs in before he began to do sit ups. Using his abdominal muscles he broug himself up with some effort and then let himself down with a little to much ease counting each time he went up all the way. Having felt the burn he would flip over and do push ups, however he would not get as many push ups in as usual do to not having waited between exercises.

OCC :
Exercises end

David would then after having finished his exercises get up and dust himself off. Heading over to the mirror he took out his toiletries and cleaned himself up for the day ahead. After that and giving himself a clean shave he would go ahead and get dressed in his simple clothes, as it was to hot out for his fine wool clothes. Before stepping out he would strap into his armor which includes the chainmail and padded tabard. Now ready for combat training, well at least he thinks he is ready David stepped out of his cottage."Lets do this." he said closing and locking the door behind him. David would then make his way down the main road through the city enjoying the ocean air along the way. The whole reason for wearing the armor was so that he could continue to get used to moving in it and fighting in it. After all if you are uncomfortable in armor then you might become a well armored sitting duck.

David would eventually approach Kendoka Sasaran and pause giving the place a look over as he stood there in front of it. With a shrug he walked up to the front door pulled it open before entering. Upon entering the place he was immediately greeted by the sounds of clashing wooden practice and shouting. So far this place sounded fun.

Walking over to the weapon rack, Duron picked up a blunted short spear and swung it around to test the weight. It was similar to his own weapon without the sharp metal point on the end. Most of the season, the akalak had been focusing on his lakan training, but today, the cyan skinned warrior had a itch to train with his spear. Walking to a training dummy, the cerulean held the spear with his right hand near the back of the spear, and the left hand was holding it near the middle of the spear. Walking towards the dummy, the warrior moved his right leg and kept his left foot forward. Bending his knees slightly, the cerulean lower down in his stance till the muscles in his upper leg started to burn. Resting his right hand on his hip, the cerulean pointed the blunt tip of the spear at the head of the dummy. Moving his right foot forward, the akalak thrust the tip of his spear at the head of the dummy. The strike was swift, but he speed didn't help his accuracy, so he ended up missing his target. Moving his right foot backwards, the akalak moved out of a potential imaginary strike of his opponent and lifted his right hand up, so the tip of the wooden spear whipped downwards to intercept a upward strike. Moving his right hand back to his ribs, the spear whipped up to line up with the chest of his dummy. When he was ready to strike, the akalak's right hand and left hand moved in tandem as he thrust the blunt spear into the chest of the dummy.

After the killing blow was executed, Duron stepped back and got back into his forward facing stance. Resting the right hand on his hip, he pointed the tip of the spear straight at the center of the abdomen. Taking a shallow breath, the akalak simultaneously raised both hands; however, his right hand on the back was raised slightly higher than the left hand near the middle of the spear, so the whole shaft of his spear was now protecting the whole front side of his body and the tip of the spear was pointed at the knee of the dummy. Moving both hands in tandem, Duron thrust the tip of the spear at the knee cap of the dummy. Suddenly, he moved his right hand downward and the tip of the spear moved upward till it pointed at the neck of the dummy. Moving in his hands in tandem, he thrust the point of the spear into the neck of the dummy. Stepping back, Duron wiped the sweat from his brow and looked around at his surroundings. All around him were the sounds of men and women clashing wood against wood. Each warrior had a different level of skill under their belt, but the akalak's dull green eyes always tended to fall upon the warriors with more skill. Most warriors of skill in the training hall were akalak, but there was quite a few foreign warriors in the hall too.

The cerulean watched a woman who was training with a long sword and a shield as she faced a much larger akalak with a large round shield and a sword of some sort. They seemed evenly matched because each warrior couldn't land a blow. Eventually, the woman got the best of him and disarmed the purple warrior. The woman started to laugh as she walked over and kissed the akalak on the cheek. Starting to feel uncomfortable with the public display of affection, Duron got into his stance and squared off with the practice dummy. Resting his right hand on his right hip, the akalak moved his right hand to the right, so the point of the spear pointed off to the left of the target. Quickly moving his right hand to his hip, the end of the spear whacked the dummy had in the soft side of the abdomen. The sound echoed through the hall, but everyone was to busy with their own training to noticed the sudden sound. With a smile on his face, the warrior moved hands in tandem backwards, so the tip of the spear was pointed at the stomach of the dummy than he thrust the spear into the belly of the dummy.

Satisfied with his one on one training, the akalak looked around for a sparring partner, and he sees a human male walking to hall dressed in chain mail with a sword on his hip and shield on his back. Deciding he would be the perfect partner to spar against, Duron rested the shaft of his spear on his bare shoulder, walked over to him, and said in common with a smile on his tattooed face, “Would you like spar? I am in desperate need of sparring partner. My training dummy isn't up to snuff since he always lets me win, but with all your armor, I sure you will be able to take a hit.” Sticking out a hand for him to shake, the akalak said with a chuckle, “The name is Duron. What is yours, friend?"

(Social/Training) Visiting Kendoka Sasaran

Postby David Arnim on August 12th, 2015, 2:19 am

David was looking around thinking of where to begin. He had not exactly been to a formal training place very often or very recently for that matter. After a moment however David noticed Duron approaching him. He examined him for a momment but stopped upon seeing him smile and gave a friendly smile right back. When Duron went to shake his hand he replied with a nice firm one in return."Good to meet you Duron, my name is David and I would love to spar." he would say before ending the handshake. David then gave another look around before looking back to Duron."I've been looking to get some good practice in, and nothing beats an actual opponent in my book." he said with a pause."Where can I grab a training weapon?" he would ask not wanting to use his actual dangerous sword. He had noticed others using wooden training weapons and since Duron is here David figured that he would know were to get one.

Duron smiled when the human accepted his spar. He wasn't surprised because the man wasn't dressed in full battle attire for nothing. As Duron turned around and led the man to the middle of the floor, the akalak looked at his real longsword scabbard on his hip and answered his question, “You should be able to find a wooden replica of your sword on the weapon stand. I'll wait here till you find one of your liking...” The akalak wasn't sure what to make of this man. He seemed like every typical human in Riverfall, but he seemed to carry himself differently. Was he part of the Kuvay'Nas? To the untrained eye, the human was a trained and seasoned warrior by appearances, but any idiot with a enough money could buy himself or herself a sword and some shiny armor and call himself a warrior. The cerulean doubted this human was one of those people. Before the human left to find his weapon, the akalak said with a nod, “What is you name?”

As the human walked away to get his sword, Duron held his his spear with two hands about a foot way from each other. Moving his feet shoulder length apart, the akalak sat down into his stance, and he could feel the back of his legs and caffs start to burn. Holding the spear in both hands, the akalak lifted both his hands up with the spear over his head for a overhead block. Feeling the top of his legs start to burn, the akalak fought the urge to sit up. Moving his left hand to the but of the spear, Duron moved both hands in tandem and thrust the blunt point of the spear towards the ground. The akalak knew the attack could be observed as a block and attack because the downward thrust of the spear could intercept a strike to his right side because the whole shaft of the short spear could have kept a incoming attack from hitting him. Fighting the urge to stand up, the cerulean clenched his jaw together to fight back the pain and brought both hands up with the spear over his head. Spinning the spear in both hands, the akalak's left hand was to slow to catch the spear in the spin, so he dropped his weapon the floor. Swearing in tukant, the cerulean picked up the spear with frustration in his eyes.

(Social/Training) Visiting Kendoka Sasaran

David had followed Duron to the middle of the floor and nodded upon having his question answered. After a brief moment of looking he spotted the weapon stand a bit off from where they were."Ah, thank you will go and grab one now." he said with a pause before leaving with Greathelm still under his arm. Though before he left David looked to Duron and stopped briefly."My name is David Arnim." he said simply before looking back over towards the weapon stand. It was always encouraging when he met someone who was both helpful and friendly in these places. Walking over and avoiding those already sparing he came to the weapon stand. He thoroughly examined each practice sword trying to pick the one that was most like it own. After all if he was going to train he might as well get it right. So after a few more moments he picked out a wooden long sword and gave it one final look."This shall do." he said before turning around.

Turning around he noticed from where he was that Duron seemed to be practicing some moves. He observed his sparring partner for a moment as he began to walk back over. Warm ups never hurt for sparring David figured and practice did make perfect as his father had told him. Having come over David came to a stop before giving a stretch as if to limber up a little."Picked this one." he said gesturing to the wood practice blade with his head. After a brief moment David put on his great helm in preparation for the sparing.

Picking up his spear, Duron turned when he heard the armored clad human walk over to him. With a wooden replica of his long sword in hand, the akalak smirked the human showed him the weapon. The human put the great helm onto his head. Duron had a feeling the man had a aptitude for fighting, so he didn't think he will need to hold back against him. The akalak smirked and said in common, “You might be the first mortal to spar in the Kendoka Sasaran in armor. I just hope the instructors won't get mad at you for scuffing up their floor. Anyways this should be fun...”

Duron learned from his time in the Tukula Outpost that he should never turn his back on anyone, and he would be damned if he turned his back to human dressed in armor. Walking backwards, Duron was about a full weapon length away from the human. The akalak dropped into his stance, so he moved his right foot backwards till it was a shoulder length away from his other foot. He sat into his forward facing stance, so he was lower towards the ground for better stability. Moving his right hand down to the butt of the spear, he moved his other hand one third of the way up the shaft of the spear. Moving his right hand down towards the ground, the blunt point of the spear was now pointing at the neck of his opponent. With zero emotion in his voice, Duron asked, “Are you ready human?”

When the armored clad got into position, Duron knew that he had the length advantage with his spear even though it was half the size a normal spear. The akalak waited till he was ready to strike. Moving his left foot slightly to his left, the cerulean slide forward and thrust the spear into the direction of the human's neck. It was a simple attack, but it was effective because David Arnim would either have to parry or dodge. It would give him time to get into position for a second attack. The Cerulean was happy about this spar because it will help him learn how to take down armored opponents. However, he needed to keep pressing the attack to keep the battle in his favor.
