42nd of Summer, 515 AV
The Castle Commons were always filled with bustling people, going here and there. It was easy for one to blend in with the crowds, so Otaia confidently strode through the commons, carefully scanning the crowd for anyone who stood out. The drunken, careless, or distracted ones were always the easiest.
She could hear the cries of Tua Scully over the white noise of footsteps and chatter. A shiver went through her, thoughts of what happened the previous season bubbling up. She subdued these thoughts, but made sure their paths didn't cross, by avoiding the Establishment altogether.
It took a chime or two before she found a worthy victim. It was a fairly drunken man wobbling away from the direction of the Pig's Foot. He seemed a bit scratched up, as if he'd just been in a fight, at the tavern where he just came from.. This meant he'd probably be thinking about the fight. Distracted. The girl gave off a small smile at the prospect of such a lucky find. As she passed by the man, she saw a Coin pouch at his side. Careless. The girl could barely refrain from laughing out loud. "Petching idiot," she muttered under her breath. The man was practically begging for her to steal from him.
The comforting weight of her newly-purchased dagger rested in the kelvic's pocket. She pulled it out of her pocket, concealing it in her sleeve, prepared to slice the coin purse free. She approached him from behind, angling her dagger to cut the purse off. however, as she went to cut it, she pulled on it a bit too much, and heard the man exclaim, "Wha-- wha ye doin'?"
As he turned around, Otaia quickly cut off the pouch, gripping it in her fist. The man threw a lopsided punch, which didn't even make contact with the girl. She immediately began to dart into a nearby alley with the money in hand. The man stumbled after her, but was too drunk to catch up.
Right, right, left. otaia wound through Sunberth's maze of streets, until she was sure the man had lost her. It wasn't until then that the dagger went back in her pocket. She reminded herself that she'd have to get a sheath or something to keep it in. As she leaned against the wall of an empty alley, the girl finally caught her breath. She fiddled with the drawstring from a while, before finally opening it. In it were six gold mizas, four silvers, and eight coppers. Otaia grinned, surprised at how much she gained.
