The sky seemed sandy; comprised of small grains of color, which, when put together, formed the whole. A mass of flickering light; as the sun flared while it sank. Streaking the celestial blanket in scorching tones. Its illumination stretching northward, casting golden hues vertically through horizontal lines. Strips of deep blue, pink, orange, a hint of red. It wouldn't be long now, Talya knew, before the sun set entirely, bathing the world in darkness as the moon took to it. Casting it in its milky white blanket; as the last of the gulls and other sea birds circled overhead. Cawing lazily before heading off to their nests and their rocky crags. The crickets chirping merrily in the distance, as they leapt through the grass; rubbed their legs together as though they were plotting something evil. The first of night's creatures creeping out- an owl, a bat. The bugs of damper lands- flies and mosquitoes. Tal could hear them buzzing if only she bothered to listen. But it was not this that she paid the most attention to. Instead, it was the way her blade run hollowly as she drew it from its sheath, and held it firmly in her right hand, in a reverse grip while she took a deep breath in through her nose and out through her mouth.

As she did so, Talya slipped into a starting position she had not employed for quite some time. She considered it a pose of concealment- a stance she utilized when she wished to perch on the fence between deceit and truths. Betrayal and loyalty. She hadn't had use of it before; as no one had ever gotten to be close enough to her where she might feel as though she would have use for it. No one had threatened her, and no one had gotten to know her the way that Reik had. Not since then anyway; but that did not mean that she shouldn't practice it also, she felt, as one should always be prepared for any situation they might find themselves in if they could. And so she would, she thought, as she slid her left foot forward, letting the right trail behind for once. The toes of her left foot pointed out ahead of her, while the right where directed behind her and off to the right side a bit, as she held the foot on a slight diagonal, so that both of her feet, when put together, formed perhaps, a one hundred twenty degree angle. Her chest was directed ahead of her, although on a slight angle, so that she seemed forward, and yet protected in slight. Anyone who read into it however, might know that she was hiding something; up to no good. But in most cases, she supposed, they wouldn't have long enough to figure as much out. Her left hand was held out in front of her. Extended slightly, with the palm facing up, as though she were offering someone her hand. The right was held behind her, against her far hip, as the metal couldn't be seen if someone were looking at her from the front, or even in some cases, her sides.

Talya took a deep cleansing breath as the sun shone upon her skin. Caressing it; warming it as it cascaded down the length of her body, kissing every unadorned inch. She bent her legs a little, leaning into the knee of her left ever so slightly as she transferred even more weight onto it. But not enough, she hoped, where it would be noticeable to an onlooker; because that would be alarming she felt, or at the very least, weird, as most people didn't stand with their legs bent unless they were preparing to spring or something of that sort; she felt. All the same, she breathed deep as she finished preparing herself, and took a look around to make sure no one was in her way; but no one was around. She had picked a quiet, open space upon the lawns to practice and she should not be disturbed, especially now that everyone was headed home to a late dinner, if not to put their children to sleep.

Satisfied, Talya swept her left hand in, bringing her wrist against her waist. As she did so, she lifted her left foot off of the ground, keeping her leg bent at the knee. Slowly, she raised the leg toward her chest, before stepping outward. In the next movement, she slid her right foot forward; following the curvature of a circle so that her hips rotated with her step, as did the direction of her chest. In the same few moments, she pulled her blade away from her hip, and moved her hand outward. When it had been stretched a few inches, and she no longer ran the risk of accidentally cutting herself as she carried out her strike, Talya began to move her hand inward. Sweeping the blade toward the right, around and across her body, until it spun out ahead of her with the completion of a crescent. Sweeping savagely across the air in front of her. She would then step forward a little further with the right, before placing it on the same line, about two feet directly ahead of the left. She would then thrust her arm farther out, although it was twisted downward, and stab the air again.

With the completion of her next strike, Talya took another deep breath; her breath mirroring the sound of the undulations of the bay, which wasn't all that that far away. She smiled to herself as she pulled her dagger wielding hand in again, and then glided forward with her left foot, then to the side with the right, and then the side again, creating a small bit of space in which she would be able to work and try new attacks. (As well as potentially dodge anything if her opponent happened to make it this far). With the space now open, Talya stepped forward once, and then twice, before moving her left hand up toward her face, and then outward in a half circle, as though lazily batting something away, before surging forward on the right side of her body. Thrusting her right arm outward, in a series of short jabs directed on either side of her face. Slashing the air angrily over and over again, before taking a single step backward. Gliding into a long shadow cast by the setting of the sun.

After her series of jabs had been carried out, Talya would take another deeper breath, before spinning around. Letting her right hand fall out to the side of her body, the blade to spin away from her skin as she twirled. Faster and faster, cutting through the air with a faint, nearly inaudible whoosh. Her hair spinning off her shoulders; circling her hungrily as she danced, and the sun reflected off the surface of her blade. Casting beams of light into the distance; refractions, as her mind began to churn and to spin as rapidly as her body, and slowly, she forced herself to calm down and step out of it. For her to fall naturally into her more traditional starting position, before stepping forward with the left foot, so that the entirety of her chest was presented to potential attackers. She then raised both of her hands so that they were level with her eyes, before moving them outward to her sides, as though she were punching midgets on either end of her body. She then brought her left hand out, holding it palms up, about level with her shoulder, as though in supplication. She folded her right arm over this, by bringing it down slowly toward its mirror; the blade concealed on the far side of her flesh. She stepped back, with one foot and then the other, before sliding the left hand back, and moving the right over and under, before snapping it outward, cutting at the air with the dagger as though it were a viper.

Talya stepped back; once, twice, swept the blade out to her right side, before adjusting her stance, so that only her side was presented to potential attacks. She listened to the call of a gull; distant laughter and footsteps, before surging forward again. Her heart beating faster and faster in her chest as she raised her right arm up high, making sure to keep it neatly bent at the elbow. When it was as high as it would comfortably go on its own, Talya forced it back on its hinge, bringing the blade down in a series of ice pick like attacks. Cutting through the air with ease in front of her over and over again. A slash to the left, another to the right, one down the center, another down the center, back to the left. Over and over and over again, until her arm began to feel a little heavy, as she realized she was jerking it a little to harshly to be a healthy, good form. And that she was only moving the blade perhaps a half inch or so with every strike; and while precise, such didn't give her a very range by which to do things, so she decided it was time to try something else.

Talya took another deep breath in through her nose, and out through her mouth, before lazily performing a series of sweeping exercises until she thought of something better to do; something more that she needed to work on. As she slipped back into her starting position, with her left hand held safely behind her back, she guided her right hand through the air. She moved it in a diagonal line across her body- from her left hip to her right shoulder, her right shoulder to left hip, her left shoulder to her right hip, and her right hip to her left shoulder. She moved it up and down- from collarbone to bellybutton, from shoulder to hip, from middle of body to top over and over again, as though she were painting zig zags in the sky with only the point. She moved it in horizontal lines, and lazy circles. She drew various patterns- lightning bolts, and apples. A cherry or two with a stem, a glass half full, another half empty. A square, a rectangle, another sphere, even a trapezoid. Then something like a parallelogram, although it wasn't quite as perfect as it ought to be. But all the same, Talya did her best with it as she let herself breath; regain the air that had left her lungs in those times when she worked herself a little harder, and stretched her limbs.

After several minutes of enjoying the lulling ease of her workout, Talya decided it was time to move onto something a little harder. Something more advanced, which required more work; more attention, more practice, in order to master and get right. She began by raising her blade wielding arm a little higher, so that it ran over her head, before sweeping it inward and repeating the process of wider diagonals. For a moment, she held this practice, before breathing deeply again and stepping forward. She furled her body inward, and behind her. Curving her chest toward her lagging left foot. She swept her right hand inward again, moving it toward her far left hip, before shuffling each of her feet to the side. Straightening her shoulders and her chest so that they bulked her up, and directed her presence and her weight outward. She then just her right elbow out ahead of her, elbowing the air before moving her blade outward in the same direction; knocking the air out of a nearby opponent, she would presume, if such ever took place in a fight. She would then follow up with the blade, raking it across the chest. Slicing them thinly, causing them to bleed; to be easy enough pickings if only she were fast, and continued to press into them. Pressuring her opponent as she crept closer and closer, and continued to harrow them with her weapon- a jab to the side here, a jab to the other side there, and then a few in the middle.

Talya continued on this thread for awhile. She kept at it until the chirping of the crickets became a mad, endless whir. Until her breathing became more labored, her chest rising and falling all the more hurriedly as she struggled to draw breath into her lungs. Her brow feeling cool; damp. Sweaty; she thought she could smell it to if she concentrated; while the rest of her face felt hot; flushed. Maybe even a little red; a warming sensation which crept down the length of her neck as she drew herself back into her starting position, and took a deep breath before beginning again; telling herself that it would all be over soon. That with her shift, her practice would cease, and she could go home and she could get some rest, although she also knew, that it were just as likely that as soon as she slipped into that altered state, she simply, may not feel all that tired anymore. But all the same, she would do it, and she would try, and as she took another deep breath, she resumed her training by bringing her blade in toward the far side of her chin, (although she held the hand several inches ahead of herself, so as not to scratch her skin). Then, with short, flick of the wrist, near twitching type motions, she began to cut at the air around her neck and eye level, (which would be perfect against taller opponents she supposed, or stabbing the shorter's skulls). She moved the blade across her face, toward her far shoulder, (although she didn't lower the weapon by much, just swept it along a horizontal), over and over again, until her muscles began to burn with their ache.

Talya slowly lowered her hand to her side, and took another deep breath, before stepping forward a few times. Then to the right a half a step, before raising her blade from on low; letting it flip out and away from her skin, and cut across the air in a clean sweep toward her shoulder line. She then moved it to the right, farther out. Cutting across herself, before moving it back in to the opposing shoulder, and then out once more. She took another deep breath, before wiping the sweat from her brow with her left hand as she cut the blade down; as though slicing someone from the nape of their neck to their belly button. She smirked, as the sun's light caught her eyes, and she spun around to face the other direction. Slashing wildly at the air from left to right, before moving back a few paces to create more room by which she could work, and then slashing at the air again. Up and down, and then all around, in great, winding circles until she became dizzy just watching.

Talya stepped forward again. She was painting pictures again with the point of her blade. At first they were indistinct. A series of wildly sweeping lines that spanned every manner of positives and negatives. Arcs and waves. Straight lines and parabolas. Angles and sharp corners. Twists and turns. Whirling dervishes, made dashes of dotted bits and winding sectors. But eventually, they became clearer shapes. That of a beak. That of a pyramid, or the outline of a tear or a leaf. Gradually, they became more and more complex as the Ethaefal rapidly swept her weapon this way and then that way. Forming sloppy outlines of dogs with uneven ears, and a too long tail. The face of a cat; a bunny's ears. A flower with pointed petals, and those that were far more lobed, if not a little toothy like their leaves. She continued this onward for several minutes until she was near out of breath, and left to cut lazily up and down in ice picking time motions until the sun finally sank over the edge of the horizon, and the moon began to creep up. Filling the sky not only with it, but the stars.

It was then that Talya shifted out of her mortal seeming, into that of her more celestial body. Into the true form of an Ethaefal, if you could call it that. Sighing deeply as she stopped and forced herself to breath, sheathing her dagger before wiping the sweat from her brow with the back of her hand. Sticking her hands on her hips before pacing in small circles, helping to ease the tension out of her body as she fought to reclaim equilibrium, and eventually did. Several minutes later, finding that her body although sore, had found its peace, at that she could now return to her temporary home, and rest well for the night if she so chose. Although, as she had suspected, she didn't want to anymore. Instead, she wanted to stay out and admire the stars.
