What does one need for travelling?
It was question Anouk had been asking herself rather frequently as of late. When she had sailed from Mura to Zeltiva, she had done so with other Konti women, and had thus travelled in relative comfort. But now she had organised passage on a cargo ship, and something told Anouk that comfort would be beyond her grasp this time round. She wanted to be prepared, not least so she could easily survive the journey from Zeltiva to Abura in the coming season.
She would be sad to leave Zeltiva, but the city had provided all it could she the Konti. She had furthered her artistic skill, studied at the university, and expanded her social circle too boot. Though she liked the port city, Anouk sensed that her purpose lay beyond the sea, and she would only reach it by travelling.
So. What did one need when travelling?
In line with her general belief in trusting the goodness of people, she started to ask the various merchants of Zeltiva about what she should she purchase in preparation for her travels. They all seemed genuinely surprised by her innocent trust and naivety, but this did not stop them making the most of an easy sale.
Rals, of the Armed Scholar, ensured that the most important item Anouk should take with her was a weapon of sorts.
"I don't know how to fight, though. Nor do I want to learn." She argued mildly, quite insulted that the blacksmith had assumed she would somehow run into trouble on her travels. "I trust the sailors I will be travelling with, and the other passengers as well."
Rals subsequently put fourth numerous situations that Anouk might theoretically find herself in. Pirates, sea monsters, drunken sailors, sober sailors, all haunted the Konti's imagination, and made her question her morals just long enough for her to purchase a single dagger from the blacksmith.
"At the very least, it can be used to gut fish." He said proudly as they swapped coins for the small blade.
Anouk left the Blacksmiths feeling a little annoyed with herself. She was a fierce pacifist (if such a thing could exist), and yet she had practically bullied into purchasing a dagger that she would surely never use. Still, as she marched to her next choice of shop, Anouk considered the benefits of being armed. Yes, the blade could be used to gut fish, and might it was worth for her to have some sort of protection, just in case the utter worse should happen.
