Fall Registry and Calendar Fall 515 AV As the watchtowers change in a brilliant flash from yellow to red, the season of winter has arrived.
Flickering Figures In the fluctuating facades of the city's illusions, there seem to be shadowy, humanoid forms drifting into and out of reality. They are not always there, but they have been seen throughout Alvadas. Some of the shades have even appeared in people's homes. While not the most concerning event of the season, the apparitions in tandem with the city's perceived state of fugue has many of its typically unflappable citizens a bit more anxious than seasons past. Note: The shades are featureless, period. You may investigate them as much as you like, but please do not make any concrete inferences. Slow and Steady All locations (save Inou's Mercy) are much easier to find, and only seem to move - at most - a block per day if that. During this time, navigation through the city is almost mundane, and people find themselves getting to places "on time". Illusions are still present, but they are much more contained and almost reserved, thus the people find their spirits to reflect the muted landscape about them. Building Barriers With the lull in illusionary activity, the people of Alvadas have taken it upon themselves to provide their neighbors, friends, and enemies with their own style of Alvad mischief. The city seems wholly receptive to its people's changes, and it isn't uncommon to find elaborate murals suggesting paths only to land one with a stubbed toe or bloody nose. Some of the pranks, however, border on malicious. The streets are certainly far more dangerous than in seasons past, but for the most part, they are just as dangerous as before, though in different ways. Glamorous In the spirit of those who wish to reclaim the streets, a certain group of entrepreneurial Symenestra and their affiliates have crafted featureless masks that allow a person to appear as another for a limit of a day's time. Each mask, regardless of size, sells for 5 GM. These masks require something of the person they're copying (a hair, some snot, a button that belonged to them, etc.), and while they do last for a total of 24 bells, the illusions tend to be imperfect, more of a caricature than a true copy. Children find these masks particularly amusing. Note: Masks will not begin their 24 bell expiration until they've been assigned someone or thing to copy. These items will not work outside of Alvadas.
A Tale of Two Cities The eastern half of the city is bathed in daylight, always about a quarter to noon. The western half of the city is blanketed in darkness, the sky dotted with the twinkle of stars and soft smile of the moon. At the border between night and day, there is a shifting state of sunrise and sunset, making the transition from each half of the city a surreal shift. The border itself seems relatively fluid, some parts of the city that would otherwise be day or night occasionally experiencing a morning or evening. Note: The city is shifting once more, so it's entirely likely to find a location in the day side and night side in a single span of 24 bells. Feel free to pick and choose as you see fit. While in night-side, everything is dark. Day-side, everything is light. The transitions are similar to locations in that that one second it's dark, then it's dawn, then it's morning as you walk. There is no looking from night-side into day-side, as if you're in night-side, everything appears as night. Twilight's Dawn In the border between night and day, the perpetual rise and set of sun, performers find the ambiance to be far too good to pass up. The strip of golden oranges and light lavenders becomes a gathering place for the artistic minds of the city, pulling them out of the woodwork like creeping vines. Dancers, actors, painters, sculptors, and a plethora of other practitioners of the fine arts ranging from cuisine to composition all come together during this time in a sort of impromptu festival. The Speakers themselves are seen quite frequently among their fellow artists, both performing and partaking the various activities and lessons offered. Note: Most art-based skills can be found from various NPCs during this time. Anything up to competent can be taken as a lesson, but please PM the ST to check for instructors for expert and above. Evening's End Those who were held within Ionu's Mercy have dissappeared, taking with them most of the memories of the people who knew them. For the most part, no one seems to have noticed, though a few choice individuals have questions that don't seem to be able to be answered. The forgetful, it seems, have been forgotten. Note: This affects NPCs only. Please PM Fable if you would like to check and see if a named NPC is affected. Sleepwalking Shenanigans A bought of sleepwalking seems to have found a place on the night-side of the city. Those who fall asleep tend to roam throughout their darker half of the city, and during this time it is just as common to see sleepwalkers as it is to see people awake. While not the most concerning, petty theft has increased, as have various sleep related pranks. Guard your purse strings and keep your friends away from ink! Note: It isn't required to sleepwalk if you fall asleep night-side.
The Scenic Route With the change in environment, forests, lakes, rivers, and - of course - nature trails are the prevailing mode of travel for the Alvads. Locations are much more difficult to get to during this time, and it is far more easy to get lost within the wilderness. Many people stay within their homes for the duration of city's more wild proclivities, as it has become a few shades shy of the actual dangers of the world outside the walls. Note: Most locations, excluding Ionu's Mercy and The Sanity Center, are going to take time and effort to get to. There are also no wildlife, only the wilderness itself. Please keep this in mind. Unnatural Nature Within the wilds of the city's proper, there are clearings and caves with an eerie aura. Pits of mud that seem to have no bottom, ponds of fetid water and rotting plant life... Those that investigate them find themselves waking up days later back in their homes. Most people shy away from the irregularities, though many more find their curiosity too far piqued to ignore them. Note: Falling into a mud pit or pond (they cannot be swam in) will always result in a loss of three consecutive days. There are no other consequences to investigating.
