45th Autumn, Wooden Wonders Workshop
Karin had woken up exactly as the fifth bell chimed indistinctly in the distance. She had woken up groggy and muddled, and so it had taken her a while to actually rouse herself from her bed. But when she did, approximately a bell later, the girl was as sprightly as a girl awake at this ungodly hour could be.
It wasn't even because of the light outside, Karin had constructed a makeshift curtain over the window to stop the random flashes of light whenever their home moved around in the 'night'. No, it wasn't because of Alvadas' unusual day/night duality. It was because, this most fateful of days, Karin had been promised a tutorial from Cadog in the workshop. She was jubilantly excited, almost excessively so.
Ever since starting her job last season, the girl had been growing more and more fond of her workplace as she learnt steadily how to shape and craft wood. Every scent, sensation and colour she experienced there was a treasure to her, and the knowledge she gained, well- that was golden. But she'd mostly been working out in the yard, doing hard manual labour. This she didn't mind too much, because she was right next to the waters edge, and of course the Svefran loved the water. But ever since she'd started there she'd been entranced by the little glimpses of the workshop. She'd wanted to stop and take the tools off the walls, to examine the artefacts lying around, to ask Cadog a thousand questions. And now, she would be able to!
A tall, willowy lady had come in a few days ago to commission a toy from the man for her daughter. Cadog hadn't told her too much yesterday, but what he had told her was this: that she would be helping him craft the toy, under his careful guidance. So, this morning, being aware of how slippery the city's streets were, she had apparently subconsciously decided to leave the house doubly early. Karin however, was completely fine with this.
Even though she had woken up earlier than she had meant to, she decided that leaving the house early would be quite a good idea. Before she headed out, she gave her face a quick splash of water, wiping the residual sleep from her eyes. With a rake of her fingers, she brushed back her hair into a messy bun, so that later she wouldn't have her hair falling in front of her vision. She put on her clothes, noticing that the sleeve on her left arm was getting slightly frayed. She thought to herself, I might have to go to the Bizzare sometime soon, pick up some new clothes.
The thought was quickly forgotten about as she leaped upon her workday. She tiptoed quietly around the house, picking up a hunk of bread for her breakfast and tearing off a chuck absentmindedly as she slowly pulled open the door, wincing as it squeaked and squealed. She sent a silent plea to her mother to fix the door, and set out, breathing in the fresh air of the early morning.
